Head gasket failure at 24K???
Manarius replied to Green96GT's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXRedesigned headgaskets. Subaru corrected this HG problem as soon as they heard about it by redesigning the HG's, but the cars had already been built and shipped.

Sluggish when cold, Injectors?
Manarius replied to andyhessler's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXMy car is a dog when it's cold. The fact is that the tranny fluid is cold and the car just isn't up to driving like a bat out of hell when the tranny isn't warmed up. I think this sort of idea can be applied to your car as well. However, the above mentioned sensors may be able to help you out slightly if your car is really slow.

Possible to swap FWD auto trans into AWD Legacy?
Manarius replied to idosubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYou could, but that's a lot of work for just a few mpg.

Manarius replied to idosubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXUmm, I guess it could be done, but I doubt the gains in mpg would be that great. You'll still be toting around hundred+ pounds of AWD stuff in the back anyways.

Head gasket failure at 24K???
Manarius replied to Green96GT's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXIf anything, the EJ22 is closer to the EG33 than it is to the EJ25. The EJ25 was a new design brought in 1996-97.

differences between 1st gen. legacies
Manarius replied to PeterD's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXBasically, aside from some body changes, dashboard changes, and another thing or two, the cars are EXACTLY the same. Sure, the A/C system manufacturers may be different, but it's all the same stuff. Now, the fuel rails on the 92-94 N/A cars are different from those of the 90-91 N/A cars, but they will interchange just fine. Oh, and in 1992, the swaybar went to C-Type endlinks, not drop style like the 1990-91.

2.5 turbo engine into 91 legacy?
Sure is. Wiring will be a real PITA (OBDI - ODBII swaps are annoying), but the engine and its components will fit just fine.

Sensor,spark plugs or what?
Manarius replied to _Aramchek_'s topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXYes, if the ECU is throwing a CEL then nipper is absolutely right. Read the code and we can go from there.

Sensor,spark plugs or what?
Manarius replied to _Aramchek_'s topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSounds like knock sensor to me. My friend's 97 was the same way until the sensor was replaced.

Head gasket failure at 24K???
Manarius replied to Green96GT's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAs a corollary - only the EJ22T was closed-deck until post 1999. At least, afaik.

blinking battery and E-brake lights
Manarius replied to gmoney1184's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI second this notion.

Japanese Tranny vs Remanufactured
Manarius replied to otismaxi's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI'd disagree with that a little. You can get JDM trannies depending on the type. As in, getting a 4.11 geared 5MT would be nice (JDM only). But, that's only for MT's....

Are FWD Legacy parts useful for a rear disc conversion?
Manarius replied to idosubaru's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSorry. My mistake. I don't know where my head was on that one. I could have swore he said discs....

STUPID question, yet i must know!!!
Manarius replied to RdNkBrt's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXAn N/A car can be boosted. It just takes money, tuning, and time. The biggest problem is tuning. The block can handle the PSI (Normal PSI; 8-10), but getting the timing to be right is usually a pain. Better to just get a stock turbo and either start swapping parts or do some tuning (all of which will violate your warranty).

STUPID question, yet i must know!!!
Manarius replied to RdNkBrt's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXToo bad the STi is a 2.5L like the other 2.5 engines..... You'd never be able to get the tuning and the turbo like the STi. Nor the intercooler. Not unless you wanted to do it yourself.

Is there a idle switch on my car?
As far as I know, it's all controlled by the IAC Valve.
-
Is there a idle switch on my car?
The computer controls the idle. However, if the car is cold, I've found that you can tap the gas and the car will go back down to 1k idle instead of the 2k you get when it starts.

What's your opinion on this?
Manarius replied to MiniTransAm's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI agree with you on that. I'm not sure the engine designers had that setup in mind when they designed the position of filter. If you want easier, get a Fumoto Valve for a drain plug. Unfortunately, if you happen to break it off while you're driving along, that would make for quite the disaster.

96+ legacy tweeters into a 92 Legacy? doable?
1. I don't think they'd fit right. 2. Where would you plug them into on the radio?

Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) Location
Manarius replied to SparkyCNY's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXSparky, we already determined that you have a MAP system, not a MAF system.

Mass Air Flow Sensor (MAF) Location
Manarius replied to SparkyCNY's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXDoes yours look like this? http://discens.org/gallery2/main.php?g2_itemId=65 All it takes is a 10mm wrench and a regular screw driver. As far as I know, the plastic ones do NOT come apart. And the metal ones may need an allen wrench to come apart, but I would suggest against that. If it NEEDS cleaned (not that you just want to), use a cotton swap with rubbing alcohol. If there is nothing wrong with your car, would advise STRONGLY against taking the MAF apart.
