'74 Sedan....my love affair had begun.

This is for the Coupe but it'll help you with the cowl. I need to clear out some pics so I can add more scans. Also need to run some errands and get to sleep so you might see more or might not ...untill later. -

I'm glad to have seen the vid. See, there is a vacuum line coming from the air cleaner(about 11 o'clock) that I have nothing there. So at least, by looking at the vid I have an idea of where that line goes to(pass. side shock area). OK I'll skip the old Hose A and Hose B joke 'cause you've probably heard it enough already:grin: But seriously, there's 2 large diameter hoses that go from the air cleaner to the rocker covers. Smaller diam. could be to T fitting, disty, control valve assy.,...I'm going to attempt to scan from the FPM with the exploded views, after this post. I really don't think I'm going to use the OEM hubcaps.....I only have three anyhow. PM me and we can work something out, I have no idea what you are talking about with those copper rings. I'll scan those too. they're under the inserted cylinder liners since these blocks are not bored for piston travel. A crate motor would be AWESOME. Also, how can I correctly find the paint for the air cleaner? Earl,a.k.a. "pooparoo" has a pretty decent match and has some left sitting on his shelf. He offered at something like $15 a piece to shoot, but don't quote me on that. I'm thi9nking about prepping and send him some items too. He kind of over did it shooting some items on his Brat that were never that color but they look kind of cool. Mostly we need that blue for the air cleaner and rocker covers for later 70's. -
Thanks for the report. Exactly what I thought. None of us have a real lifted A/T vehicle. We like to think beyond reality but I'm thinking Subarufreak's lifted Legacy would cut it. Not too many others though. I guess this is where the PNW guys can actually get away with that line "If you can't beat us ...." But I swear, once I get settled this year I'm going to build something 2.2 UP UP UP and give it some mudflippin tires that I can leave chunks of on the Jersey turnpike. Something to have fun with while my son is still hanging out with dad on weekends. OK,so how about once we get a little meltage? Late March/early April?

kiwi - when did they stop putting the tighter bumpers on in NZ? Over here '74 + had the fat square "shocked" fugly bumpers. Jose, did you also get the engine tranny manual from the same guy? I'll try to dig one up and help. I do have the factory parts manual here if that helps. And yes, go to disks in front at least. There's even a crate engine or two out there. Some showed up recently in CO and near Sacramento CA , and I'm pretty sure there's still one near Sane Diego too. Those copper rings - shims - people are talking about go under the cylinder liners. Not in gasket kits. Very hard to find. Sorry, I'm not giving up the few I have but if you check a FPM they list the sizes and making shims shouldn't be all too hard if you know a machinist. -
Funny thing is I just spotted one right around the corner from work the day everyone was home or late because of the "killer snow storm from hell" which really didn't happen like that .... and this one is light blue, but the same spiffy ***/T TT wagon...love those! I swear, there's barely any Loyales around and out of nowhere two my favorite show up. Cool

Yeah man,we wanna hear about the 2wheel action. Here's a decent deal on a FSM. He also has the body section too, maybe make an offer for the whole deal? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Subaru-Service-Manual-1974-Engine1400-Sedan-Wagon-Coupe_W0QQitemZ120515840521QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Manuals_Literature?hash=item1c0f4dca09 Get to those front drums yet? Wheel cylinders are often found too. Fronts I think are a little larger than the rears.Should be. I actually have some NOS that there might be doubles of. I'd like to take care of Subarufreak first,or my own coming projects -

Should have something up here, but no promises and I need warm weather before I even start to find out. Hang tight, you'll have a manual soon enough. [quoteI know I'll be needing a new clutch as the cable is at the last of it's adjustment. Another thing I saw was the steering bellows boots are torn....easy fix there. ] Clutch kits on eBay, generic steering bellows are good enough. No need for factory on these. With the tools and parts I see on the floor of your garage I think you'll be fine. What's your 2 wheeler? Looks like you have a nice place from the pics! Enjoy! -

You'll do fine as long as you don't have great expectations of a full resto,'cause that'll never happen. So you keep that body style alive to the bst of your abilities and budget and enjoy it for a few year. Here's some info for now. As springtime comes around I'll see what I have for you and Subarufreak for part you guys may need. He has my former '74 fourdoor. floor pan is rusted where the seats bolt up. tear out that interior and start from metal.Hard work or money out of wallet , but don't bother with perfection - functionality - not sure about FL inspections so I can't tell you how far to go but as long as seatbelts are made to be there ans work you should be all set. -turn on the headlights and I don't have a single interior light. Factory service manuals show up often. Don't go buying the 1st ones you see for $25+++ There's lots of them still out there and I can scan for you as needed. Just be a little patience because Windows Vista is different than the old so I had troubles and gave up last time I went to scan -1st time using Vista to scan. Wiring diagram coming sometime soon if you don't score. Even the Chiltons from back when have decent wiring d's. Those run from around $1 - 5 often. And I probably have one to just send - I know I do,just saw it in (ice cold) storage yesterday. -have no idea how to do high beam. gently pull the turn signal lever toward you - or away ,can't recall right now -paint is nasty money, time,or both -i'll be needing some weatherstripping PRONTO!!! VERY tough to find so we've gotten a potential group buy thread going. Jump in and hopefully we get something going soon. -seats need recovering don't bother with perfection, ain't happeneing unless you're the super lucky guy here Finding originals in top form is near impossible -needs new carpet You can get those made too if you require something really close to original it shouldn't be too much -carb needs overhaul, accelerator pump leaking plenty of carb kits out there . Acc. pump is often the culprit -no brakes!! E-brake works awesome however plenty out there Those are front DRUMS however so those drums you should try to work with, but there's a few of those out there too -have no idea what hardware i need to re-assemble wiper cowl, front grille, and headlight surrounds easy enough,we'll get you there -needs screws, not a big problem -tires are dry-rotted.....but looking to buy some other 14" wheels from fellow member:-) Car came with 13" and I personally wouldn't bother trying to go 14" for any reason. Let me check your other post and add on if needed..... -

Yeeehaaa! I wouldn't bother with a perfect color match. Just make it a color you can live with and have it come out decent and you're ahead of what Subaru offered back then. I told him I would be sending a friend by to look it over but that never happened. Since he knows so little about it I'd bet he'd take around $500. So offer $450 -
You're right around the corner from the place! And we've never met yet? Or am I forgetting you? Knowing you're so close I might change plans and go. I'll send a PM with my cel. phn # so please reply with yours ...and a name,'cause I can't recall which guy you are, sorry. I'm counting on getting stuck - which usually I manage to avoid. I have at least one or two tow straps and AAA Plus account. Let me check with the family when they wake up. Talk to you soon, Paul

paco- I spoke with him a week ago. It's a '74 and a 4spd as it should be. his own paint job .... underneath is the funky green which he loathed,detested,etc.... and said so numerous times in our 10 min. conversation. Nice enough guy. Good luck with it. I'd be more interested but just too much going on and cars coming in this spring. Those 1400's are a bit tricky but if it runs and drives I say go for it! He did say it does run but has only driven it around the yard a few times in the last decade....talk to him. -
