My 73' Coupe Restoration
moosens replied to Datsunrides's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
 You have ..... The Unit ! Oh,very very cool. Yes,please restore that sucker and make it look as spiffy as you could possibly get back in '73 . That's so frikkin btchin. You've got one of only ....maybe .....3 of those units I know of. Yup,I'm impressed. Go get 'em ! -
Late '77 or '78 Same corner that our '79 got whacked. :-\ Same kind of hit too. Worth a little something for parts but I don't see too much money there. Sunnuvah frickin it IS a late '77 or '78 because it has the rounded style rear bumper that I sure would like to have a good one of. :-\ If those rear bumper rubber ends are any good please set those aside for me,thanks! I'm looking for a good rear cargo area carpet and hatch inner cover(masonite). Looks like this one is black inside, that's OK. Check those doors along the lower edge too. They look solid from here.

'79 Brat, a running project
moosens replied to 84GLPROJECT's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
You can muscle those early EA81 Y pipes to work. We used to do it but its not the best solution. Heat the pipe front of the Y push the Y outer ends toward each other takes a few minutes, its a hack job but its been done and keeps a car functioning. -
My 80 Brat - some questions
moosens replied to belyle's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
These engines tend to overheat when idling too long, stuck in traffic, etc. Go over everything related to the cooling system and you'll be fine. That means improve grounding to the radiator, maybe replace the temp. sensor, check wiring to the fan,etc....it'll take you a few hours at most but it'll be worth it. Flush the system too,and consider a T fitting near the firewall on the output heater hose for reverse flushing. Dodge Omni lower rad. hose is exact (enough) and can easily be found in modern rubber form. the orig. is the fabric wrapped hose. I have a bunch of those for serious restoration people. Otherwise go for function. Upper hose shows up once in awhile, should still be in stock on the west coast, etc. Same for T'stats, easy to find. Check valve timing too. And ignition timing afterwards. Enjoy! Looks very nice. -
Lookie what we found..

You'd think we'd just chip in at Charlie's instead of all this running around. anyways .....:-\ Let me/us know if you have something to consider up your way, maybe closer to the middle of the state. We're concentrating on the I-91 area around No.Haven/Wallingford/Meriden , but plenty other places to consider.

No,that one was slightly cracked from Maine. It's still here though,Im pretty sure. That one had like 49K on the odometer. I did have a lot of that interior but some went. Still might have what you might need. This is from the one I've got now. 71K Whole Brat from OK,then NM,then NJ for a couple of years, the here last year. Parked over dirt/grass at my mother inlaw's place. I really don't want to give up on it though. Man,I just wish I had the parking stuff all sorted out and had an indoor space for even just one of the classics. I'm in the exploratory stages of procuring space in an industrial bldg. somewhere. Andrew and I are looking to hook up. If the right place came up are are you looking for an indoor space to work with? PM me on that,or call.

He was in contact this summer. -
Just curious what this board thinks of what I could get for the dash alone and for : beautiful door panels even has the driver's panel "warm up warning" sticker looking REALLY nice. near MINT ceiling liner Solid blue seats -vinyl with the "star" pattern , not cloth Very respectible blue carpet 71k engine and tranny Solid doors Very Very nice tailgate trim - not museum quality, but one of the best you're going to find. Thanks for your opinions. I might add more later, more likely tomorrow....too tired now.

You folks won't believe this but this A-bar that I just sent out to him took 5 years to get to him. Yup,I confess. :-\ Excuses include but not limited to: Closing workshop and moving in 2004,stuffing it all into storage too tight to deal with for a year or so,(2004-2006)moving to a new location where the sun was supposed to shine every day for a few years but just as I was getting organized and ready to deal with the A-bar the guy pulls the rug out (2006)and needs his place back, back to storage units(2007-to present),finally to a place of utter disgust and humiliation and an eye on a light shining ,blah blah blah ....and all that and yup, I finally got the thing on its way. Thanks a million to our man Mike in Oregon ! You are the MOST patient person I've EVER known. And your tunes are btchin ! http://www.amazon.com/Screaming-Gulch-Stills-A-Broken/dp/B000QVX80M Cheers!

Send a message to Subaru3 - Todd. He'll probably want to make this event with one of his 80's wagons. I sent this thread to him but didn't hear back about it.

Group buy for Gen I BRAT tail light gaskets?
moosens replied to moosens's topic in Historic Subaru Forum: 50's thru 70's
Seems to be little to no interest. If a person gets some neoprene they can cut their own ..... last chance for replies if interested. Otherwise I hope someone grabs a sheet of neoprene and make a few sets for sale. Cheers. -

Great thread. Keep it going, please. I've trimmed a couple of posts so we have a cleaner thread for future reference. I'm going to make this a Sticky so enjoy the limelight. -

You're welcome and dang I'm tempted ... but the old parking issue Bump! East coast wake up !! -
Where was this Brat most of its life? I just want to make sure that you thoroughly inspect the areas where suspension meets the unibody and all stress area around the shock/strut mounts. Check the FUEL FILLER TUBE AREA from the underside, and the fuel pump mount and pump itself. Gas tank,of course. Just don't want to see you go along with a hazard. The interior is easy enough to rip out, bleach and hot water the ceiling, pillars, walls, doors, and floor with the drain caps removed. Read your bleach container. Couple of capfulls for a small bucket....same deal on the plastic and whatever you can wipe down. Small amount of bleach only cuts and kills and should not fade any worse the already faded plastic. Carpet, I'd do a similar wash and consider a replacement if you have the couple hunderd $'s Otherwise poor mans cleanup but again I'd use a bleach mix. Carpets are the worst for mold. How long do you want to "bring this Brat to life" for? You just want to have a reasonably solid beater for a couple of years or are you looking to make this last a decade or more? If the latter, don't fart around, cut the rot out completely and do it right or you'll only have heartache and misery in short time. Have fun, don't overspend. I'll try to donate some stuff or let you know what's for sale.
