  1. 4WD (mine is a '78) has that belt driven fan "on a stick" as I call it. Well the stud snapped while doing around 75mph in the left lane. Little plastic fan pieces all over the place. Ate the radiator,no other real damage. Don't ya know I just did the water pump and hoses and worked around or under actually, the LARGE bracket for the A/C and alt. wich also holds the driven fan. I was looking at that stud the fan rotates on and thought it was not well engineered and would be a problem sooner or later. Well I sure wasn't thinking less than 48 hours later. Waaaaaagh. But in some SiCk way it was somehwat enjoyable going back into it today and pulling out another reman'd radiator,etc... and making it my current daily driver. Luckily the eaten radiator was only $35 found in New Haven from an older rad. shop. And the replacement was not much more. Ended up doing the oil pump, front crank seal, valve cover gaskets, set points gap, etc....out of love. If you eliminate that driven fan you'll need a V-belt around 13285 (very small) for the A/C to Alt. .
  2. I'll have to dig up some pics when I have more time. Not too many though, unfortunately. Got those fenders off yet? Check for the foam strip and they used for sound deadening,I thing. It acted as a sponge and the tops of the fenders rust through even in dry climates. Check under the cowl too. Take t out and clean all that out, make sure water drains the way its supposed to etc....
  3. THat timing gear might still be availible on eBay. Not that any of us probably need one but it just stuck in my mind that one is out there and I come across it in my searches every so often. Got me curious too.
  4. Man you got lucky with that body ! That is to US UP HERE. THat's candyarse rust to us. This is great. I hope Danny in TN sees this and gets involved a little. He has my old '73 GL1400 Coupe
  5. 1976 - grab it. That's a weird year with a different final drive ...check it out!
  6. Now you can imagine how it feels riding a motorcycle or vintage Subaru around here. If they're not pushing your rear bumper they're almost certainly passing you on the right - which psses me off to no end. Many of the people here detract from the beauty and fortunate proximity to NYC , mountains , farmland , saltwater , etc. Remove the discourteous, selfish, and greedy and its a beautiful place.
  7. I can't see any restrictions in the FPM's ... I don't have a lot of time to research right now,sorry.
  8. Hey there...good luck with the Profile stufff. It looks like Shawn has had his head in here already from your "visitors" registry. He's the man to ask - ruler of the USMB :) Him or Mick would have the technical answers for you.

  9. THat'll make you smile every time you walk out the door!
  10. Bosco I hope you're OK. frickin witch .... good luck with the settlement.
  11. Great time! Very cool to meet Rob. I had a nice post typed around 6AM but the internet swallowed it up I guess. I like the way you waited untill I left to whip out the cameras. I need the recipe for that broccolli salad. Taste like breakfast mmmmmmmm...... Andrew's Scorpion is mighty mighty sweeeeeet. Kind of like picking up a nice Jaguar from the late 60's when I was his age. Tre cool !!! Euro styling Thanks Connie and Tom !!! And to everyone for all you did to make it such a great day. And whoever paid for the weather - we OWE you bigtime, thanks. Forgot the clutch adjustment but made it home slippin on down the line. Rock 'n roll - see you guys at the Barrens or the next cookout/meet. Cheers!
  12. No moose encounters ...it's coming , watch out for me in New Milford ...... see you guys around noon. Talked to Andrew and he should be there early as well WITH his fiance.
  13. This sounds along the lines of some current projects by other members. Please keep your info posted as I'm sure there's several of us if not dozens who want to follow this project. I'm guessing you want the first issue 4-port 1400 heads and not the last revision 2-port which was around here in the USA for 1975 and 76 or so. Mind keeping a running tally on expenses for this engine? I'm sure a few of us would like to know if this is in our budget. I'm sending a PM to you .....
  14. Rob,welcome and hope things work out right soon. Newport Maine ? I guess you're visiting elsewhere firstly. Looking like I'll show up in my filthy little piggy '78 wagon since my clutch on my '92 is about to totally give up once and for all. Might have to come up early now and leave around 5 ... more or less. We'll see ... but I'll be there
  15. You'll find tons of info on the experimental aircraft sites. .... or maybe you didn't ? Cams - Delta , not sure who else these days. Good luck and be safe.
  16. Most likely I'm with Matt on that. Don't bother on my account. I'm looking to buy something like ribs or something people like. Want me to pick up some chicken and ribs? Trying to make the evening feed.
  17. gad dawggy how time flies. I'm much more wacked out than normal right now. Been working 2 gigs , sleep? what's that? So don't mind me if I seem a little tired Might be the kind of day that turns into a night that turns into watching the sunrise from Connie's lawn. We've got a couple of things going on that day but I'm trying to make it so hit Connie's after the other commitments.
  18. Oil pan is somewhat different from '72-3 and the '74 and onward. I have smaller crush rings that my FPM said were from pre-'74 cars. I'm not sure if the shape and size is different but the plug sure is.
  19. Answer: Notorious spot where crap like pine needles and leaves and dirt all accumulate and hold water and cause rust which turns to outright rot....all in the WORST possible spot to deal with. Trust us 70's owners and rust zone former 80's freakazoids .....strip it,blow it all out, make it dry and clean and recoated if possible to assist in water drainage.
  20. What year? This forum is for pre- 1980 Subarus -with little exception. I think there's instructions somewhere if you use the search feature. It's fairly easy.
  21. My question is this. Do I need to be concerned about this crack? Most look like that with anything over 100k but they'd continue to run plenty much longer if needed just as is. But,you've got a nice project so my vote is for you to keep looking. Some of us have gotten rebuilt (ATK) engines in the past couple of years so they're still out here. If you can search Brian Thompson's old posts he once posted a couple of new or rebuilt 1400 and 1600's that were at a garage in So.Cal.
  22. Be patient ! It looks FINE right now becasue its being tickled all over.
  23. Let me know if you go to Bpt. I work right near the Vibes fest. and live just a few minutes away. If I work on Saturday I'll drive thru Seaside Park and check out the scene. Been an outstanding event when held here. No problems at all which is contrary to south Bpt. life in general. Very well run , lots of security , and waterfront camping if you get there early and snag a prime spot. Otherwise they don't call it Seaside Park for nothing. It's truely the GEM of Bridgeport and one sweet beach. The longest continual white sandy beach anywhere near here. There's some statistic that actually calls it the 2nd longest public white sand beach in the northeast. Wild turkey, white tail deer, several varieties of hawks including the osprey,rabbits,pheasant,etc....walk to the west end early in the AM and you'll likely see a number of species. Once saw 2 deer on the beach walk into the water and start swimming STRAIGHT for Long Island. Have fun and hope to see you HERE and THERE (Connie's).
