  1. I-95 Board members seem to be hard to come by. You should be calling me right now and coming down for your manuals tonight.....remember? I know you're probably flippin out right now. You'll do fine with or w/o manuals, but try to stop down if before 11PM if you can.Call coming soon.I need to run out for a little bit.
  2. My '78 4WD wagon is one of the last survivors up here because it was Zeibarted properly.A lot of companies applying it closed drain holes....bad,very bad.Just check your car over well for those. Rinse,rinse,rinse...... Good luck with it.Next year we should have a bunch of us back at Carlsile for the Import show, third weekend in May.Hopefully we all make it and get a better turn out than this year looks to be.A lot of us up this way just can't make it this year.
  3. I need some blue Gen II Brat interior parts. and I want that box of tissues back too. Send Miles east!!!!! There's work for the guy here before he gets to the meet. The women here are outstanding, and the food's great too.NYC,partying all the way there and back... Have fun guys.Don't break anything.
  4. Miles, head east first!! Nice to be needed, isn't it? It'll be really good to have you up here now before it gets hot and sticky. The weather right now is perfect for working.
  5. I've got him covered SW CT down to northern Jersey, say the 287 belt and northward. After that you've got guys like Boz,Jeff,Mike, who you are very familiar with.
  6. Oh well,I never knew that part.I always understood that he intended to get it sent north and finish it.eBay is nice for times like this.
  7. Will this be the same time next year?? If I can plan on it being a certain weekend I'll absolutely make it next year, and do the trifecta (Carlisle,Skip's-as close as he'll let me,and the Feed 'n Speed.
  8. Right,it was all about insurance companies (another reason to hate CT). I always thought that some states were still allowed to have them, but other folks have stated that it was across the country,100% I'm guessin the bars were installed in the last year,as I've never noticed them before.Anyone else? Dr. Leaky would be proud of you and Tim.Keep digging, there's gold in them thar Brats!!
  9. THAT'S MY BOY!!!!! His dad and I are just about the same character,so I'm his second dad......or mean older brother.....or warped uncle Bubba, all depends on the situation. Andrew and his dad indeed deserve much honor.I've got a six star medal for each of them. Looking to hear from the boys to make sure they made it back OK...
  10. Welcome!! When I get moved into my next home I'll be taking all my stuff out of storage. At that time I should have what you need, but it could be another month,two,three...all depends on how our current place sells, etc. Meanwhile, someone else might be able to help. The Vintage Subaru gang has been growing quite rapidly in this past year!!! Once upon a time it seemed like only a handful of us were even remotely interested in these cars. Now there's over 20 people here who are very dedicated, and many more who are a little less involved.Regarless of your level of involvment it's great to have the company!
  11. He's more famous as the man who did not bust stones while waiting over two years!!!!! for his 5-lug conversion stuff to get to him. Gets my vote for most patient board member!
  12. Mr.W is on the money.Connie, check the diff. dipstick for and reddish color.Should be honey golden.
  13. Glad to hear.Trashtalking from wagonpoopah has made it's way in several directions......and not always towards Hondas.Send him east for his next whoopin' All in fun boys, don't get off your seat.
  14. Good question, but I think the two are different enough that it won't work.If I remember right something about the coolant flow...?? I'll try to check some manuals when I get my hands on them..
  15. Youthful years were terrorfying. More recently, coming back from Carlisle my wife calls from her '96 Legacy to me in my '78 4WD wagon..."slow down,I'm doing 90 and loosing you"..... so,I'll guess it was around 100mph,at 26 years old. HaRdEsT driving??? gotta be beating the living tar out of my first Brat as a "youthful offender".Best hunting vehicle for my money. My GF Coupe was my favorite buzzbomb.I didn't care what the speedometer said it always felt like I was doing 90mph.
  16. Thanks.I think I talked to that guy a while ago.I know of a couple EA63's,but I'm looking for the "S" engine.I doubt I'll find one here in the US,but just thought I'd try.Maybe one of those low mileage Japanese "s" buzzers made it over in a shipment.
  17. Check eBay,they show up all the time.Pretty cheap too. Nice pic!
  18. Carb cleaner,n' all that is going to do it wonders.Clean the old gas out.check all the lines.blow them out or replace what's easy enough.Fuel filter(s),does the '82 have 2 filters? And does it have the third fitting for vapor seperator(?). Check disty for wobble.THe tune up kit will work wonders.Drain oil and heads too, maybe after a treatment if you use one.Get the coolant system flushed, intall a T fitting for flushing the heater core.Remember, you're in this for the long run.Avoid doing things twice or the expensive way. Belts, those on the car have been drying out. Check the ASV reed valves(chewed ends or bent, broken) and the plastic silencer downstream(melting, cracking). Call me after 2PM if you need me.Good luck.
  19. hi there,I'm Paul and I'm a 70's Subaru owner.......... Seriously,I know the 1400 is not very popular here so far,but if you know someone who knows someone....well,pass it along, please. I'd like to run my dual carb set up on an EA71,but I also have a good revised edition EA63,and if the dual carb fits up then that'll have to be. I think it'd be great to keep it 1400 if possible.
  20. Connie's place is almost as easy to get to as my place was. Right off US Rt 84,exit 4 for those who want a reference for checking a map.
  21. Looking for any word on them. This is the dual carb'd version with 10:1 compression and a whopping 93 HP. Naturally I'd be interested in getting one,but not right now. Mostly I'd like to get some facts from owners or mechanics who've worked on them. Thanks for any help.
  22. Please try to keep this thread dedicated to the two US 1400's.Thank you. My understanding is the the first 1400 was a punched out 1300.It had cylinder sleeves "wet",or inserted, not just bored into the block, and the removal of the extra material caused the 1400 of '72-74 to allow the sleeves to rattle loose and eventually chew up headgaskets and if neglected, wasted heads. This is the four port exhaust EA63. Correct my dates if wrong please.I believe the revised 1400 was issued in late '74 and definitely was in production vehicles for 1975.I tend to relate the first year of 4WD (1975) with the necessity of the revised EA63,but from my understanding the revised edition was already in some '74's.(the revised edition is two port exhaust, like all the engines that followed through the EA82) Questions: Do the early 1400 heads work over the revised block? Is the crossmember the same as a EA71 (1600)? Is the intake manifold,or even the intake ports on the heads the same as an EA71,early edition? I'm really hoping I have a new house soon so I can answer some of my own questions.Right now I have no place to play EA engine doctor. Thanks for any help.Again, let's please try to keep this to the 1400's.I'm not interested in getting into "what I could put in there,etc.etc....". Thanks, Paul
