  1. For all those that wish to know, an EA63 transmission is NOT the same as an EA71 transmission...
  2. Hey guys, Amanda needs a new transmission for her 76 wagon ASAP! (the pristine blue one in San Francisco) Does anyone have a 4 or 5 speed 2wd transmission they can ship?? (top mount starter) If so call me at (805)712-0047 Thanks, -Mike (yes I know this should be in the wanted forum, there is one there too)
  3. $10 +/- each available at any napa. Available in Grote brand LED too... -Mike
  4. The used car lot I worked for had a thing for passats and jettas around those years... one problem I saw more than once was the vacuum hose going to that fuel pressure gets frayed/torn/collapsed, etc.. which would cause your "too rich" condition at idle and cruising speeds.. easy thing to look into 2 cents -Mike
  5. True brian.. Dual Range is nicer.. but at the last show I had no problem doing what everyone else was doing with my 1.6 liters of fury... In all honesty, my Gen 1 feels WAY more offroad capable (in stock form) than my EA81 did back in the day...
  6. Some store probably returned it in class recently. I wish our DC's could tell us if other stores possibly have parts rotting on the shelves.. -Mike
  7. Trans mounts are available through Beck Arnley I believe... I know I bought a new pair of those about a year ago... I can check with IMC to see if they have any as well. I'll let you know -Mike
  8. Rich did you still need a tail light? I have a driverside one for you if you want it. I should come by sometime and show you my new brat anyway. -Mike
  9. I am a parts guy, and I know there is just something satisfactory about getting the last part in the country.... for instance... I got the last gen1 front halfshafts in the country, in the new napa brand (line code NCV, part number 7305 I think) lol... -Mike
  10. No we haven't scrapped it. We just have a methodical way of building it. We needed to make all the lift blocks fit, before we take it apart again and reinforce them and tie them together with tubing. strength is a major concern with this eagle cause its getting raced in the baja 1000. Lemmie tell you, body lifting an eagle is a LOT harder than lifting a subaru. btw, actually I took all the fender flares off except 1 because I hadnt gotten to that one yet. they make tire clearance a problem.
  11. So I busted tail on this brat this week, and after 19 years of sitting got it to go and stop like a champ. I replaced the hood with the one from my other brat, as well as the interior, now all I have to do is deal with the windshield and get it some new tires. Heres a couple pics of how it looks after its SUPER ACCELERATED return to life. Gotta love that funky spoiler thing. -Mike:banana::banana:
  12. Hey Amanda, glad to see you found your way to the message board. For everyone else, I have seen this wagon in person and it truly is in great shape. So anyway, that engine block I got from you finally gave up about a week ago. A little too much water got in cylinder #1 and blew that cylinder out. I was still able to drive it for a little while longer, but alas I had to stop driving my wagon finally when she just wouldent go above 60. I am still around SLO county if you still want me to take care of those carb issues you were having with yours. Its a little busy with summer classes and work right now, but you have my number and give me a call if you want to have me work on it. (welcome to the message board btw.) -Mike
  13. So all in all it was just shy of a 1300 mile round trip... We left saturday night, and got back sunday night, with a total trip time of 27 hours and about 2.5 hours of sleep in that. The bad news is that shes got a bad windshield, and a dented hood (use your imagination) as well as a busted tail light. Its been sitting since 1987 so bad tires are to be expected. The good news (lots of good news) is that I first of all have a good windshield, and a good hood, so thats no big deal. I also have a tail light. After close inspection I have found out that this is a GL model, meaning its got electronic ignition, a TACH!!!, the cool looking 4 spoke steering wheel, as well as all those external goodies like the roll bar and the push bar. The only thing really wrong with this car is that it has been sitting. engine compartment just needs to be rinsed off. drivetrain is supposingly good. NO SIGNIFIGANT RUST!! the only rust I see is on the rollbar/pushbar, and some minor surface stuff here and there. It its got a straight body almost ready to be prepped and painted! So anyway, more update will follow when I do the fluids/tune up things, and try to fire it up. overall a great condition brat once I trade out interiors for mine. -Mike ON another note, so who was the one that called up Wayne and screwed me out of those rims that were to come with it?? if you wanted them that bad I am sure we would have worked it out no problem. I already have peugots so I really dont need any 13ers
  14. A except the Window Tint... It doesnt fit with the style in my opinion. -Mike
  15. Thats a great car to have. If you can keep it by any way possible, try to. :-p The value of the brat is truly in the eyes of the beholder. Sometimes you'll see a brat go for $200 that just needs some TLC, and sometimes you'll see a fully restored brat go for $4000+ (btw, this thread might do better if it was moved to the historic forum) -Mike
  16. K guys, I talked to Wayne today, and in 2 weeks or so I am gonna go get the brat.
  17. WWU is awesome man... I am actually gonna move up there to Bellingham at the end of the summer/early fall for the same reason. I just got my 2 AS degrees in Automotive Technician, and Advanced Engine Performance Technician. I toured the campus right before WCSS7 last year. Its a pretty welcoming campus. Interesting surrounding area as well. -Mike
  18. thats kindof strange that they list it as 80-82... that would be a year range for the EA81 style fenders, which would be different from your brat.. You are right that 77(late) to 81 brat fenders are interchangeable, as well as 77late to 79 for wagons/coupes/sedans will work. But anyway, 1980 subaru kept the brat the same but introduced the EA81 bodystyle, and the new bodystyle brat was introduced in 82. Was the listing you were looking at posted incorrectly maybe? -Mike
  19. Ok guys, if the engine is not exploded, and there is no major body damage on it, I think I am going to jump on it.. 75subie if you want those rims for $80 you can have them for $80. -Mike
  20. OK, this is awfully tempting because its within my reach, and the brat that I have is rotting away WAY worse than that one..... I proly would spend about $200 in gas/trailer to get it. Would it be worth it? hmm. *pondering* -Mike
  21. LMAO... I gots a stack on my brat now, ask Subieguy, he saw it. Made from 100% recycled parts (except the flappy weather cap) hell, the stack isnt even exhaust pipe.. its this pipe that used to hold up the lift controls for one of the lifts at cuesta college... I found it in the dumpster... works great. All the pieces from the collector to the muffler are actually the original brat exhaust pieces, but I cut up and used all the straight sections, then used some whatever pro-flo muffler that was lying around. At least if nothing else it puts a smile on peoples faces as I drive by. Oh, and it shoots flames at night because of how much oil my engine burns... -Mike
  22. thats bad@$$ dude. There are places to get new brushes for those. I know of one locally. (here in SLO) -Mike
  23. Not coming back? Well I dont think I can move everything in one trip if I do (its kinda all up in the air right now on whether I get to move to washington) -Mi
  24. Thats 400 for the timing cover.. the oil pump cover is only like 12..... if you buy the oil pump cover, oil pump shaft, oil pump rotor, and gasket.. its like less than $50 to your door. If the timing cover is to the point of needing replacement, your lower end is already gone. So if your bottom end is still good, just go with the timing cover you got. (you can if you want take it into a machine shop and it is possible to machine a 6613 bronze bushing to work, just tell them to get it so its as close fit as a wrist pin. The shop I took it to last that did a bangup job charged me $50 cash -Mike
