  1. Ditto on that. How hard did you drive it? That is either a terrible driver or terrible luck. Get yourself a nice used Legacy with a 2.2l engine...
  2. That is right. My 96 OBW 5M is the same. My 95 Legacy 5M with the same engine, the RPMs are lower at the same speeds. Perhaps the gears are setup differntly. Just keep oil in it and it will be fine. I try to keep it under 3500RPMs when on the highway...but here in PA if you're doing 80 in a 65, you're going to be pulled over...so keeping it under 3500 RPMs isn't hard for me.
  3. My mom always takes her Legacy to a BP service station in Slippery Rock, PA for work, or Kerven Sunaru in Butler, PA. I have never had to have any work done on my Outback yet...but i'd end up going to Kerven because I don't really know of any indipendent Subaru mechanics.
  4. In 1996 it was an option...but I think like 85% of them built were automatic, thus having an EJ25.
  5. I wouldn't touch an EJ25 in the 1996 - 1999 Legacy...unless it was dirt cheap. Is the 1995 Outback just a Legacy wagon with two tone paint. or does it have more ground clearence? I paid $5900 for my 1996 OBW manual 2.2l, with 90,000 miles on it in April of 2004...all maintnece records...including EVERY recipt for oil changes. :-/
  6. Do a search of the board, and you will find about a million solutions to stop ticking and tapping.
  7. When I first bought my OBW, I wanted to get 18s on it, and lower it...I bet it'd look really nice
  8. I cut apart the part that bolts to the box to rig up the cone filter. At 3000 RPM my Outback sounded really nice...but my gas mileage dropped to 16MPG.
  9. I drive a 6.8l V10 for work (weights around 14,000) and when I have a light load it will move pretty good. But not as good as a 3000-some-pound wagon with a 2.2l
  10. When my cam seals were bad I leaked a lot of oil on my friends driveway...his dad made me clean it off
  11. I just did mine last weekend. It took about 5 minutes. Make sure you have a 10 inch socket extention to get to it. Mine was real tight, so a little WD-40 might help.
  12. I don't care for the loss of power under 2500RPMs, so I went back to a regular Purilator filter. You can rig up a cone filter pretty easy. Some rubber tubing and PVC cement. Here is a picture of the one I had on my ej22 on my Outback. http://www.obw96.com/1.jpg
  13. Ok, thank you. I know when I was doing the coolent temp. sensor I had to drain a lot of coolent and whatnot. I didn't know if this would be similar.
  14. Check engine light come on, I got the codes pulled...P0325 (Knock sensor circuit malfunction.) Autozone has them for like $38. I know where it is, and it looks like it can be done in the driveway. My question is, will there be coolent pouring out when I take it out? Any tips would be cool. -Matt.
  15. The ones from the dealer or the Purilator ones from Auto Zone work fine, and they don't have big holes in them like the K&N, so there is less chances of larger dirt particles getting into your engine.
  16. Its pretty sexy. I really like them...newer ones much more than the first ones.
  17. Unhook the battery for 30 minutes, and let the car idle for 10 minutes. That outta do the trick.
  18. maybe $500 - $600? That would be my guess. Cam seals are about $200...timing belt just under $300. Water pump shouldnt be to much. This is just from my experiance at a local dealer.
  19. In the VDC or whatever, dosn't it provide traction controll by applying the brakes to spinning wheels?
  20. Auto or manual? If its an auto then only 10% of the power is going to the back...until it starts to slip.
  21. I would love to lift my outback...my I don't have a garage/time/and a cheap source. The anual east coast meet is in Carlisle, PA in May...its a good time. I am in Butler, PA...just about 40 miles north of Pittsburgh.
