  1. what year's your brat? if you've got the top-mount starter you'll need to use the older style engine. that's been my experience so far..... -mike
  2. mine were from the water freezing, as far as i know anyway. both ea-63 and ea-71 ran good after fixing those head plugs -mike
  3. i've had 2 engines do this. pull the valve covers off, and find the plugs somewhere within. i had to drop the whole engine/x-member in order to get enough room to get a hammer and punch and pop 'em back in. once that's done, change oil/filter. -mike
  4. tanks guys. getting good voltage evrywhere ive checked(battery, switch, starter, coil, alt.) tried putting in the plugs one at a time, and once i got all 4 in it didnt do what it usuaally does, turns over kinda slow, but still dosnt fire(altho it tried), hadnt thought to check the timing situation, i'll try that after work. the wonders about pulling the trans was from when it was put in, the drive shaft was stuck(neutral) but i got that fixed thanks again for the help -mike
  5. 1980 4x4 ea-71(jdm) single range. put in a "new" tranny and (brand) new plugs, wires, starter, blah, blah. anyway the car will turn over good without the sparkplugs, but once they're in it's like there is way too much compression for it to spin over. i'd hate to have pull the tranny again, but i'm thinkin i might have to. when we first got everything installed after the tranny swap, she fired right up, idled for a little while, then when i went to give a little gas and she died, hasn't wanted to turn over with plugs in since. any thoughts/ideas/and such is very greatly appriciated thanks in advance -mike
  6. What car do i need to get hold of in order to find a side mount bellhousing to fit a ea71? Is it the 2wd hatch with ea71? Will that bolt on to this top mount engine, or am i hosed? Got a d/r 4spd with bellhousing, but they are two totally different bolt patterns to the case. I dont think this is a "fat case", but i'm still not sure how to tell the difference. I know it is a JDM engine with "do not adjust valves" stickers on the covers. Its going into ru4x4evers old blue 80 wagon TIA -mike
