  1. I don't know if there's two or more factories maikinf these, but all 4 I've installed worked perfect. The one I have on my hatch right now is awesome. After a week of sitting, in the morning time, I can start it right up, kick it down, and drive away with no problems. As if it were fuel injected or something. . . Lots of power to boot.
  2. Drill out holes??? Huh? I'm around this afternoon if you wanna call me after work to help with completion. EJ. I really can't recall how many on each side. As I was taking it apart and reassembling it, I kept all the left stuff together and all the right side stuff together so I wouldn't space any parts. My memory is too bad to try to keep track of all those similar looking parts. EZ
  3. I found it. Attached to the socket wrench. . . I'll be home about 6 or so. Can help you then, the tools are yours when you need them, call me.
  4. Not necessarily true if we're talking rally X. I just won in open class with my baaaaarely modded 97 4 door L impreza. I've only added a cold air intake and cheap snow tires. This last time, there were 4 full on rally cars and 2 modded STI's (300+hp) among the 30 or so cars in my class. Second place went to a guy in the twin to my car. Same basic set-up, except he had also added a flomaster exaust. Drivers win rallys, not always cars. I say start out in a basic car, have fun learning how, then upgrade to a faster better car. $.02
  5. I have a 1989 GL, 3sp auto touring wagon with all of the usual Subaru bells and whistles plus only 55k and no rust (well, maybe a little). It's been a while since I owned a Subaru so some of these questions may seem basic but... 55k only!! WOW! Very young! ------------------------------------------------------------------------ What is the difference between a touring wagon and the "regular" wagon (besides the raised roof)? I had one, couldn't figure out any differences besides the roof. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Do the all sound like a manifold gasket is letting loose or is there one letting loose? One of your "Y-pipe" gaskets is probably bad. Pretty easy fix, gaskets are cheap enough. Will quiet it down, will also add a little Uumph to the power. They hate exaust leaks, they drain lots of power. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Does anyone make touch up paint in a spray can? The dealer only has the little vials and I need to clean up the roof... Paint stores can match paint to just about any color you want. Or, just get enough to paint the whole roof a similar color. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- What should I expect for gas mileage (on average)? That's debatable, but somewhere between 25 and 30 oughta be normal. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- It's a little (very) slow off the line and doesn't pick up until the revs climb a bit then it starts to pull well. Is this normal? I know that that's a hard question to answer, but it barely spins the front wheels in the dirt if that helps... The 3 speed auto is also refered to as the "autoslushy". It is completely normal for the car to be gutless off the line with that tranny. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Are there any aftermarket cd players that would fit the stock dash opening? Mine currently has the receiver/cassette combo where the cassette player is a little smaller then the receiver. There are adapter plates that can be found at stereo shops that will allow you to install an aftermarket deck of your choice. You'll have to cut out the hole in the console, then the adapter plate will go over the outside. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Do you follow the maintenence schedule in the owners manual or are there other things that I should be doing regularly? Both. Regularly changing all your fluids will make that car last a LONG time. 250k miles is not unusual for one of those models. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- I think that's it for now, any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance... Hope this helps. -------------------- Eric Zap
  6. YEEEEEAAHHH!!! It's awesome to see a group of Soobs Doing the Dirty For Real that aren't in WA or in AU!! Up till now, the only other pictures produced have been ones of a soob partially parked on a bump so it's flexed a little. . . You've come a long way Junkie. I'm glad as hell to see your brat in action after so long Adam. (getting uglier as time goes by :b ) Tony. For the first year or so of wheeling with Ken I followed him everywhere his 4 inch lifted hatch with 28's and a lsd in my unlifted hatches with big tires and open diffs. (viscous lsd/might as well be open) It wasn't untill I got caught up by my bumper and got stuck on the obstacle that Ken's hatch cleared because of its lift did I finally surrender and get a lift. The BYBers used to have a cool disclaimer about the lift kits that said you'd be tempted to try crazy stuff cuz your head would swell(or something like that) once you got a lift installed. ______________________________________________ Me and Ken did some pretty cool stuff in front of a big group of onlookers that they swore we'd have to bipass yesterday. Really made my little hatch work! Have it on video!! (tough as hell to pick a line and film at the same time) It will go onto part 5, which will be seperate from the Rubicon thing, and which is already over 40 minutes long so far.
  7. Looks good Mick. I especially like the addition of lights to the roll bar. Didn't like the high roll bar in the other brat, but with lights it looks tight.
  8. You might just win that bet EJ. JWX you have mail, but no flame.
  9. I was pretty happy when you dicided to organize this shindig. Usually I have to do it, it was nice to just show up. I'm glad I did too, it was good to be there when the Sammi rolled trying to out do the Soobs. See you next time. Will be driving an off-road-capable rig next time and not the imp.
  10. Just tried your cell. Got the usual answering machine. DO need parts on hand. radius arm control arm front/rear axle diff. . .
  11. After 3 years of pictures of your brat Assey, I still haven't seen it off road. AT ALL! However, I do have video of Ken's brat making it thru some pretty gnarly stuff at the Rubicon. His 3 inch kit was plenty, the 6 inch hatch broke a couple times, so did the 12 inch hatch. So you go on and call names and talk smack jerk, you got nothing to back it up with but photos of a shiny brat with over sized tires parked in your driveway. . . If you wanna start with me, I'll show you 5 or so hours of footage of 3 inch lifted soobs as well as non lifted soobs tearing it up in the mud, snow, rocks and the combination of all three at the same time. WHATCHU GOT boy???? :moon:
  12. Reiters Sunday? The usual, 10-11 ish at Monroe Mikky D's?
  13. ezapar replied to old sub freak's topic in Off Road
fyi Todd is who taught me how to wheel subarus waaaay back. He's pretty familiar with the ins and outs of these things. I believe there are more than 30 in his yard in various shapes and conditions.
  14. Jared stopped by yesterday to show me. Needs a passenger door and window, and a passenger fender cuz the door won't close right. The passenger door window wsa busted in the roll. The area around the windshield is intact. EZ
  15. Cool photos Tex. My hatch doesn't look so big next to you guys' wagons in the first photo, huh? I sure do look tall next to Jared though. . .
  16. Good to meet you Mitch. Your little sand rail is pretty cool. That was Austin's buddy Mike with the wagon who rescued dude with the broken leg. Ken's brat did make it up upper 311 pretty easily, I was riding shotgun.
  17. hehe Second place went to the other teal 4 door L impreza 2.2. He was a second ahead of me after 2 laps.
  18. 27# seemed to be the right pressure. I could tell during the parade lap while it was all muddy that the tires were gonna hook up good. Goodyear Ultra Grips! They don't lie. Did I mention there were 4 full on rally cars, including a WRX? I didn't get the exact count, but I think there were roughly 25 drivers in open. Unofficially, my 1:48 was the fastest time all day. Went there wanting to beat one guy. I could only come close back when I was still driving the RX. Never got better than 6th in open, that guy wins often in his severly weight reduced (not to mention he weighs about a buck 30 and doesn't let anybody ride with him) 2.5 RS with Rally tires. Got him all three laps judging by the look on his face when I told him my times after he smugly told me his best time was a 1:53. I'm gonna bask in this, hoping it will rain for the next one so I can bring my hatch so I won't be expected to win again. Grinning.
  19. Oh uh, there was an STI in my group.
  20. I couldn't fully participate in the Evans Creek thing cuz I had to go and do the Rally X. I told you guys I'd been talking a lot of smack, and I needed to back it up. 1rst place Open Class in my little L impreza!!!!!!!! Pulled a 1:48 out of my last lap. Warned 'em.
  21. I take it that's what you wanted to show me. . . I got home late last night and heard your message.
  22. Whoops, I've done a few of those lately. Will quit.
  23. I got your message. I do have the lugnuts you need. I have a full set of 16 you can have. If you haven't found them yet, bring your tires to my house in the a.m. and we can swap them on in my garage. You can leave your 13's here for the weekend if you need. Eric
  24. I'm home. Since you're not leaving till 10:00 or so, I'll give you a call in the morning Jared. Your message said to call you at your Dad's #, so if you don't have your phone, I'll call Tex. I'd like to say "what up" to you guys as you head out. EZ
  25. I've got a prety cool idea how to make a vintage Baha too. Can't tell ya yet, not till I do it. As for the new Baha. . . I hated it at first, but they're slowly growing on me. Not like I'd run out and shell out 20k for one, but I'm getting used to it. Kind of like when they changed the body styles on the camaro and corvette in the 80's. I thought I'd never get used to them either when they were new. Baha needs a dual range and better tires. Wouldn't necessarily be the baddest rump roast ride off road, but would probably be fairly formidable in the Sooby off road world. The plastic crap can be ripped right off and tossed first thing. Maybe "bob" the rear. (and the front too for that matter) 10 years we can pick one up for 3k. . . PK oughtta have the lift perfected by then. Eh, Patrick? LOL
