WCSS and an offroad excursion after the Car Show part.
Turns out the approach angles are a bit steeper than I thought. We should have some pics, I know Jessie was taking some. The winch got a work out.

WCSS and an offroad excursion after the Car Show part.
We made a point of setting it up to conflict with as little of the WCSS as possible. You'll miss the Awards ceremony most likely, but I can also provide directions to folks who want to make it there to join us later. Basically a left at a fork, and then two right turns clearly marked roads to get there from the WCSS location. I'll be at the show with my family most of the day Saturday.

I've hosted Subarus there for some time. Never can tell just who's been there.

WCSS and an offroad excursion after the Car Show part.
So here's a heads up as to what's up. The mud pit (brought to you by Smart Service) will be open on Saturday for two 3 hour time periods, I'll be there Friday afternoon/evening with a bobcat trying to make it a bit more challenging. OK, me and Tex worked it out for the most part. After the Car Show Saturday afternoon, say about 4, I'll lead a group of folks off to Chimacum (about 20 minutes drive) to my family's property for some offroading. I only have maybe a half a mile's worth of trail, but it's some really fun stuff, set in some of the most beautiful scenery around. I have a mud hole that will probably eat your Subaru. I've winched my truck out of it more than once. Families are welcome, my wife and kids and sister and her kid will be there plus others. Should you want a quieter place to camp than the Fairgrounds on Saturday night, we have 7 acres of property and some sweet spots for tents. Or if you hang around the camp fire and drink too many to drive back to Port Townsend. . . Lemme know here or find me at the Show.

In action. Dusty tires, not much traction.

RC Offroad
Well, to actually build and XR10 I would have to sell the farm. Literally 12 bills to get it to where I want it. So I abandoned building one and bought one RTR. GOOD GOD this thing kicks rump roast on my older one, makes my buddies pos AX10 look really lame. hehehehehe Just plain amazing stuff. I tried all sorts of times to get the other two up this, they back flipped every time. This one just walks right up like nothing doing. It's SOOO much steeper than the pic shows.

Light Bar / Brush Guard / Bull Bar / Skid Plate
Cheers. And I tried to use wording that would make it obvious I wasn't trying to be a jerk. I appreciate your time in explaining your observations and your ideas. Best of luck, we don't have too many folks catering to imprezas/legacy/outbacks when it comes to off road stuff. Something to know about winches. If it says 4500 on the winch, it is only good for 4500 on the final wrap of the cable. Every time you let out a wrap, the rating changes for the worst, drastically. Scroll down to page 7 to see what I mean, I chose a 4700 lb WARN for example. WARN user manual

Light Bar / Brush Guard / Bull Bar / Skid Plate
Honest feed back here. Um, I think your winch idea is a nice idea, but stops at that. One, I wouldn't trust the way the whole A-bar/skid bar is attached to the car to hold up if it was depended on to pull a 3500 lb Outback stuck in mud. I think the combination of 12mm or 14mm head bolts won't be strong enough to keep it from getting pulled off of the car. Two, have you studied the idea of approach and departure? That winch will be full of mud/dirt/turf first thing, cuz it's waaaayyy too low. Three, the winch itself. What is it, a 2500lb? Even with a snatch block, it's gonna get fried trying to pull a 3500 lb Outback out of anything or up anything. Four, your Abar set up. And it is an Abar, not a new idea. It looks sweeet. Looks like it would keep gavel out of your engine compartment, help you slide along muddy grass at a muddy rally x. But it looks like if you tried to recover a 3500 lb outback that it would bend and warp and pull apart. I would recommend you field test the winch idea extensively before you market it as a product folks can trust and depend on. Cheers.

So. Me being me. I pawned the Wraith and the crawler and jumped off the deep end. I have to pawn a few more toys near and dear to me, but it will be just plain baddass when I'm done. Yes indeed, I have started in on an XR10.

NWWO 4th Mid Summer run July 6th 7th and 8th Evens Creek (take 2)
We had a good time yesterday. Only one Subaru showed up and I know he had a blast. Jessie followed us the whole day, only got it stuck once in some slushy snow. You guys who couldn't make it really missed a great day of wheeling.

To cut thru the clutter, hopefully while only gently stepping on Jeff's toes. How many of you plan to make it up there for the weekend? I will head up for Saturday and leave Saturday. I can probably talk Ken into it, so we'd have at least two recovery vehicles for you guys. ***Notes for those unfamilar: There is a 5 dollar per day per vehicle fee. You can buy the passes at the gas station in Cabonado. There is a camp ground, no extra charge. This may be a busy weekend, first come first server. The campground is in the ORV Park, so is a base camp. Nearest gas is a ways. Fill your tank. List of folks attending. jbbvw Uberoo Zap

The Old School Reunion Show
Is this just import hot rods or is it "old school"? I have my 85 toyota that would fit right in with the carolla pictured below. I also have access to a 76 Eldorado convertable too. . . The facebook page gives little or no info.

As it gets closer, and as the actual day schedule is decided for the WCSS, I'll put together a time and stuff. I'm waiting word about specifics having to do with the mud pit at WCSS. All together, a drive to the cabin, a romp in the trails, a sandwich, a romp in the trails, and a drive back to WCSS shouldn't take more than 2 hours.

Yeah, nothin crazy. Gentle technical fun. REALLY pretty scenery. Uber peaceful when you shut the cars off and listen. Nothin so exciting, but somethign to do for a minute during the afternoon on Saturday. Morning might be better depending on when the show takes place.

How many of you will bring off roaders to WCSS this year?
I honestly don't have an answer for that question. I've never met you, I have no idea if you have any kind of driving skills. The trails were made with Subarus in mind. So yes, probably.

How many of you will bring off roaders to WCSS this year?
The trails on our property were blazed with Subarus in mind. The trails are techincal, but very doable. My mudhole will swallow most Subarus, but don't worry, I have a winch. The drive from Pt Townsend is pretty too. We have lots of time, I'm just throwing this out there to get an idea of how many will be at the show in off roaders so I can put something together.
