  1. sounds like yer better off than i was with the pictures. my bolts were seized up in the manifold itself, nor a punch or drill worked, thus resorting to sawing the manifold to get the heads off. onr thing to consider on the next intake job: if the bolt seems to turn a little, bit with resistance, turn the bolt ever so slightly, turn in a turn, back out half a turn, in a turn, out half a turn, you get the idea. the idea it that although the bolt may turn with resistance, dont apply so much torque that the bolt snaps. its one of those things that you have to exercise some "technique", but sometimes a technique has to be developed from experience, even if that means botching a job the first time, so you know what not to do the next time around. good luck so far roberts wagon is doing just fine with only one(short) bolt on the passenger intake, with new gaskets... oh yeah, the yellow and red can PB blaster, its good stuff....
  2. cool about the struts for now.......work has begun on roberts brat-but the crossmember will need modified or adapted with a lift as its too narrow i got yer pics. they are really small, like thumbnail size. but i put them up on my site with the pics of the ea82 82 brat from the swap meet here they are http://www.warpthree.com/milesfox/82brat
  3. keep in mind that shocks do not suppor the weight of the car, but rather controls the rate at which it bounces up and down you can crank up the torsion bar by turning the nut on top of the suspension tube(4wd) the easiest rout would be to look into using an ea82 rear coilover, but you wil lhave to fab the top mount
  4. heating the nut with a propane torch will help. heat it up till it starts to glow. pour water in the aaxle stub itself, that way it will help shrink it compared to the expansionof the nut itself. but i recommend this as one of a last effort, if nothing seems to work
  5. try ordering for an 85 or 86 4wd wagon, as 85 and 86 are the only years for the adjustable strut on ea82
  6. ust the clutch for the trans, and the flywheel for the trans that you are using. bellhousing grind, the rest of the common info.... take a peek under half of the boards' rides............
  7. give me a hollar when you get back on..
  8. yosh's 90 legacy pulled my trashwagon out of the woods!
  9. if yer not too far i have a spring compressor tool.. i got a few ea82 related arts, some turbo parts if you may need parts some time
  10. the pictures above were the result of the bolt being seized in the intake, they twisted off at the head. the heads were cracked on this motor anyway, so i cut the itake to remove the heads, and keep the short-block other instances i have hasd a bolt break off at the base of the intake. but i have reassembled the intake minus a bolt, and it has been fine for over 4000 miles. i had another motor like that as well one spfi wagon we had busted 2 bolts on one head. so with the head off the car we mwelded some allthread to make studs for th eintake. but one of them broke torquing it down. but it still worked, even thru a mild overheat(radiator) the other one busted off when i removed the intake, but i have put it back together with just 1 bolts, and it runs like its supposed to, but has not been driven on yet. i hope this helps, this is what has worked for me..
  11. "this is how we took off intakes back in 'nam."
  12. Right on, skeet! but its all good!
  13. yeah, dr.rx knows his stuff when it comes to RX my buddy has an 87rx 3-door, i have known tha last 2 previous owners, the car for at least 5 years... anyway, we made a semi-lift in the rear to help the 205/55 16 chevy 6-lug rims drilled out to fit subaru check out the link in my signature, lots of pics of what we are doing with soobs check out the 87rx folder for the semi-lift
  14. feel free to link to any of my pictures if you like... http://www.warpthree.com/milesfox
  15. Welcome to the ultimate subaru message board! I see you are from indiana, i hail from Auburn/Butler, just north of fort wayne i too am doing the xt6 5 lug swap to an 87 gl1- wagon. but i need a pair of front struts. i will have a pair of air struts what kind of struts are yours? you can use legacy struts., and use different springs with them, put the rx spring on, maybe? so where from indiana are you from? We have a band of subaru enthusisats on the board from indiana. MyossFeece, 1ABAJA, Rgaff_77, Volcom Don, and myself. We meet often, and there are guys in michigan and ohio/ suppose we could meet some day and oh yeah, dont use the caps lock on the board, people will call you out on it.....(yelling) anyway, this board is a great source of subaru information, and i hope you stick around....

  18. very good compilation withthe quotes! maybe it will trim the fat from multiple tire size posts.. i got some pics up, view my directory, mostly stuff that was submitted, and new trashwagon pics. have a look http://www.warpthree.com/milesfox maybe you will recognize a few!
  19. i dont think you can get too much torque, but if the threads are bad more tourque may strip it out more do what i do. if the nut is off, tughten it down snug with a ratchet by hand. the use the breaker bar to snug it a little. then put one full quarter turn on the breaker bar. that will be plento of yourque. the idea is to have the axle drawn all the way thru the bearing when beig tightened the first time.
  20. mine had a tendency to pull one way or the other. it was a loose crossmember mount, and my modified strut caps were not tight enough. did you get enough offset on the strut camber?
  21. we bought a new clutch disc, but a bad pressure plate ate it up. but the warrantee was honored by autozone the one that we put in 86 subarus was the wrong size at first, but napa exchanged it even though it was open. got a better deal that way, as the computer was listed wrong. new guy at the counter..
  22. make sure you butt the breaker bar against the DRIVER side, so it dont fly over real fast. i about took my own head off that way. it will work, and is not dangerous if you use common sense i have had to fix timing belts off the side of the road. or use a breaker and a hammer, quick sharp blows to break free from the motor's static inertia
  23. if the piston is not turned in all the way, the caliper will not go on. yo have the caliper installed, right? could the parking brake lever be hanging up? how was the piston seal?
  24. its easier to remove the crossmember from the body, with the transmission atatched. makes easier to put it in, also
