  1. My god are they hard to get to or what!!!!!!!! I need hands half my size! Todd
  2. Thanks! I'm going to clean it and then see. Replacement is cheap and and too. Todd
  3. Ok...I know my older Subarus like the back of my hand, but when it comes to electronic cramp on my Imprezas, I get lost ....FAST!. Here's what's happening: I start the car and the cooling fans come on and them off and then on and then off. They run for about 30 sec then off 15 sec. )+ or - a few seconds. It is not related to the AC system. Compressor and AC are off during this time. Additionally, the car acts like it needs choked more. You can give it gas or it stalls. After it idles and warms up a bit, the fans don't cycle and it's fine. (Well they turn on when they are suppose to.) Could this be a temp sensor? It mistakenly senses the engine is warm and is turning on the fans and leaning the mixture? (In error, as the engine is cold) Any thoughts? Todd 95 Impreza L 2.2 AWD automatic
  4. I just thought one of my lines was leaking, but it was the rear of the master cylinder. The fluid ran straight down the booster and on to the brakeline and then flowed down it to the point it dripped off. Looked like a line till I looked real close. Todd
  5. Well, my cars are in really good condition, but my newest project, (78 DL wagon), has a few minor isues to deal with. The bottom of the rear right quarter was full of dirt, so it rusted from neglect. Not a bad fix, but I'm not wanting a return of rust. I think I'll be using this stuff on any future rust too. eBay seems to have it. Is Rust Bullet the same quality? Todd
  6. Has anyone use this stuff? Is one better than the other? It seems to be a miracle worker on rust, or is that just BS? If it works like they say....it's WELL worth the price! Your thoughts? Todd
  7. I have a spare saver tire and placed it in a XT spare bag and placed it behind the passenger seat. Under the truck would be good! Keep me posted!! Todd
  8. I think my new 78 project has a leaker. It's not a priority, but I will get to it fairly soon. I'll keep you updated. But you are right in that it might be just as easy to pull the dash. Todd
  9. I might attempt it then. Thanks!! Todd
  10. I also have a nice , clean, original muffler off a 91 Legacy LSi. Todd
  11. McBRAT: What's the instructions on the heater core removal from the side, without removing the assembly? You do it from the right side correct? (Gen 1) Todd
  12. Thanks!! Don't have photoshop on the computer. You are looking at a "un-touched photo". Todd
  13. Don't see much, if any Gen 1 representation! Let's not show disrespect to our forefathers!! I have 3 pretty good looking gen1's. Many shots. I can take some higher resolution ones too. Maybe I could put them all in a nice location and take them all together? Paul....where's your 78???? If you don't want my GF or wagon, then somebody has to submit at least one gen 1. (I won't be offended if it's not mine.) Also, with so many NICE cars on the board, 18 months would be nice!!! Regards, Todd
  14. Interesting! I don't seem to have one on my 78 automatic. At least not a fancy one. I think all I have is the modulator under the carb, on the front of the manifold and one mounted on top. Just one vac line to the trans. My trans is a bit slow to shift into 2nd. Could this be vac related? Todd
  15. I going to play with the wires and figure this thing out! I'll keep you all posted. Todd
  16. Great drawing! I need only 2 wires for the Hitachi system though, but I have 4 in the car's harness. What do I do with the 2 extra going to the resistor? Thanks, Todd
  17. The wood side covering can be obtained at a "sign shop" Like Fast Signs or the like. Anyone who does vehicle lettering and sign making. Be sure and get the"highquality", exterior grade, vinyl material. It will most like likely be far superior to even the original stuff too! If you have trouble, I can get it here in Dallas. Todd
  18. Got a quick question. Hope someone may know the answer. Are the automatic transmission front motor mounts, (bracket and rubber block), the same as the standard transmission ones? Close inspection visually, they looked identical, but when I installed my new motor, with the mounts from the "standard" trans car, it appeared that they about 1/4" off. However, with some pushing of the rubber, I was able to set the mounts in the holes. A tight fit though! I guess the rubber flexes 1/4" without difficulty. I think I'm OK with that. I have installed 20 plus of these engines, however all were standard. If anyone has a parts book that has 1977-1979 Subaru cars with automatic transmissions listed, I'd love to get the left and right front motor mount bracket and rubber part #s. I can then compare it to the standard ones. (I just don't have a "2wd" "automatic" parts reference for these years. Thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!! Todd
  19. I think they can do composites of multiple shots to fill in one page. Like Jan....All gen 1 BRATs Feb....All Gen 2 BRATs and so on. My pics are yours for the asking! Let's hurry for these would make nice Christmas gifts!! Todd
  20. Nice car! I'm so glad to see people starting to take a renewed interest in Gen 1s. I was beginning to think Paul and I were all that was left! Let me know if I can help with any parts. http://m2.aol.com/subaru3 Todd 79 DL wagon 78 DL wagon 79 GF 80 BRAT 95 Impreza AWD 95 Impreza coupe 91 Legacy Lsi 76 VESPA Ciao 77 VESPA Ciao 74 VESPA Ciao
  21. Nope, both are DLs. I added a tach to one, but that wire I know. It's just the 4 wires in the original harness, and I only need 3. The distrib. has it's own wire that runs along the firewall and plugs into the distributor Thanks for the drawing. It helps! Todd
  22. Hi: I'm back again on this issue. I'm trying to convert my 78 "standard" ignition to electronic ignition. I have replaced the all these parts with a 1979 Nipondenso "electronic" ignition components. 1. Distributor 2. Coil, module The questions I have is that the wiring harness in the car is different than what my electronic ignition cars, of the same vintage have. The wiring diagram is confusing at best in the factory manual! Basically, I have 4 wire connectors in the harness, on the standard ignition car. (2 to the resistor and 2 to the coil). The electronic ignition car has only 3 wires in the harness, 2 to resistor and one to coil. What do I do with the 4 wires in the harness? Are there other wiring changes I need to manke too? Regards, Todd
  23. My God...if the opinion is that bad on EA-81 autos powered with the 1800, what do you all think of 78 DL AUTOMATIC with the 1600??? I might not be able to get out of my own way?? On the good side, it's a fresh, clean, 23K, 1600 and the 78 DL was a bit lighter that the newer cars. Todd
  24. Thanks all. I am quite unexperienced with the autos. (But learning!) I'm just so excited about having something different. I've ALWAYS had manuals! It's spins well. I'm hoping it shifts just as well. I have a bad feeling though. It's an old transmission 130 K. Hopefully it will work well enough to get in and out of the driveway till I get Pauls 57 K trans. Has any one, besides Paul, driven these early automatics? Thoughts? Todd
