  1. Mine does that too occasionally. I think it's the cam or crank sensor and it's magnetic discharge. I think there is less resistance in the warm engine and thus no "popping or ticking". It does not effect operation. Todd
  2. I'll bet the engine is fine, but the carb will be all geled up. Congrats on this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Todd
  3. Check www.prp.com I have used 3 of theirs on Gen 1s. Nice product! Todd
  4. It's a GL too! The more rare BRAT. As Paul said...pursue!! Todd
  5. Well, the auto trans separates from the differential, So the question is , will the EA 71 automatic diff align and work with this later 3AT trans from this 1980. Todd
  6. What years will that tranny fit? Will the trans itself fit on the differential from an EA-71, 70s car? Guys , chime in please! Todd
  7. That's a very high price! I would research my options. Todd
  8. I'll let you know after I open it up. Todd
  9. (Gen 1 wagon) When your speedo needle starts to suddenly "jump" and "hop", is that usually the cable, the speedo, or the transmission gear? Thanks! Todd
  10. I noticed that my 95 Impreza with 59K has a leak on the drivers side area of the rack. It's not bad, just kinda damp at the boot and connections. I'm not really low on fluid at the pump. Is this a common problem with these? Can repairs be accomplished without pulling the rack? Since it's not bad, should I just let it go till it get's bad? Thanks! Todd
  11. Then of course, there is also the pre 1980, EA-71 cover too. Bolt pattern the same, it just has the damper rod in the center. Todd
  12. Tidbits: The round gauges, with tach, were on all 78 and 79 GFs and all late 79 GL 4WD wagons and 79-81 GL BRATs. I have that cluster on all my Gen 1s. They interchange and if you don't have the wire for the tach, just run one to the coil. All the plugs fit. So go find those GFs and get a tach! No Gen one had true factory AC. All was installed in the states with "factory approved and designed" systems. There were a few different options. The sytem in that car was made in TX.( Lone star). (Look on the bottom of the evaporator case) It is a Mini York compressor. They are not that good of a compressor, but will work well when new. They are a piston type. The rotary vane compressors are better. You can chage the engine mount and get the Sanden 505-507. You will get twice the cold with that compressor! You need a gasket for the oil pump. Easy to make too. The wood dash was on all 79s and forward to 81 BRATs At any rate .....VERY nice wagon! Don't beat it up, fix it up! Todd
  13. Again Welcome to the board! I have 4 Gen 1s and love them all! I'm also a parts pack rat! Let me know if I can help you with anything! Read my pointers on my web page. Oh...what did they pay you for it? LOL Regards, Todd http://m2.aol.com/subaru3 (Vintage Subaru Restoration) subaru3@aol.com
  14. The universal joint in the driveshaft will do the same thing .....if worn. I replaced mine and WHAT a difference! Todd
  15. So what do they charge to fabricate something? (Gen 1) Todd
  16. Well Paul, let's see if Billy can get a list together of the Gen 1 stuff he has remaining. Time is precious! I would not want to head that way and find I could only buy was a set of 1600 valve cover gaskets! LOL Billy...didn't you have a list once made? Can I get the gen 1 version of it? Todd
  17. (95 Impreza 2.2 80K) It appears that the cam seals don't leak with near the frequency that the crank and oil pump seals leak. If you are doing the timing belt and the oil pump seals, is it really necessary to do the cam seals if they are NOT leaking? I know at 130 or 140K, (Next belt), I will do them, but should this always be done with the first belt? Thanks Much... Todd
  18. Billy: Remember, I have 3 gen 1s that are not BRATs! Also most part interchange very well in that era. (But you knew that) What airport are you near. I'm 10 mins from DFW and 1hour44min from ATL. Easy day trip. What gen one stuff do you have that Paul or others haven't got bids on! LOL (Paul..Fly down and meet me!) Todd Todd- Dont have much BRAT specific stuff... actually.... lots of other older stuff... (gen1 mostly... not much EA82).. but not any BRAT specific stuff that I know of right off hand.. probably not enough to warrant you flying out here I'll see if I can dig up some of the old lists I have... 20. Compressing the tensioner can be done in a vise if you do it VERY slowly. Over 20 mins or so. I have done mine and never had an issue..............yet. Todd
  21. The seats with that "pedal" will still fit. That pedal connects to the release mechanism and allows both tracks to slide freely when pressed. Set them in your wagon. They may have slightly thinner cushions, but they will work fine. Todd
