  1. Heading to the scrap yard today. My understanding is that if I pull either an EGR or a Purge Solenoid that is good I can swap the parts as long as I clip and re-wire the plug for the right job. So if I find two EGRs I can make one a purge by swapping the plug on it. Right? Also my Multi-meter is a Fluke model and has only one setting for Ohm. Just Ohm. Open air, just holding the test probes not touching anything I get a reading of almost 4 and its followed by a little "M" What does that M stand for? If pinch the probes between my fingers in opposite hands it gets a 0 "L" What does the L stand for? I'm assuming that the 0 reading is a closed circuit. --GoatBoy--
  2. No. She bought the car a few days ago as a suprise for her widowed mother. It needed an axle in the front, oil change tune up that sort of thing. I did all that but the engine light is on. Needs to pass emissions as the tags on it are for 2001. It has sat for a couple of years. I tested the EGR and Purge with an ohm meter but I am nit sure if my meter was correct for the job. I got a reading of 3.2 or so. folllows by a small m. Its about he same reading as open air. I am assuming that the circiut is open. Going to scrap yard tomorrow to find some replacements if possible. The other codes only appeard in the read memory check. In the U-check I only got 34 and 35. --GoatBoy--
  3. What do you think about the 11 and 13 codes? --GoatBoy--
  4. I haven't tried htis as of yet. I will when I get off work in about 30 minutes. This car has to make an attempt to pass DEQ in the next day or so. I need to get these codes gone. Getting 24, 34 and 35 as well but it seems to me it is falsly giving codes. Thing runs great. --GoatBoy--
  5. Alos does anyone know if I am actually getting 11 and 13 trouble codes if the thing would run? I would think that if I was getting two trouble codes pointing at the CAS that it would not run and not well if it did. But it does run good. any ideas? --GoatBoy--
  6. 1989 FSM list trouble code 11 and 13 as Crank Angle Sensor --GoatBoy--
  7. Anyone know if the crank angle sensor is replaceable or do you have to swap the whole disty?? --GoatBoy--
  8. And yes russ it not only runs it runs pretty good too! --GoatBoy--
  9. I got the codes from several different places and they are all the same. I'm wondering if my process for pulling codes maybe in accurate. I am going to try and clear the codes and then drive it and re-read the codes. --GoatBoy--
  10. I am working on a volunteer basis for a friend in need. The car is an 89 GL Sedan 4x4 with SPFI and auto tranny. 145k on the clock. I pulled the codes from the ECU and got 11,13,24,34,35 I know what they all are but don't know how accurate they are. 11 and 13 especially. The crank angle sensor. If that was out wouldn't the car run like crap? It runs great at 20 BTDC Great power. Does 80+ on the freeway. No smoke. If it is bad where is it located? In the Distributor or on the block somewhere? Also the air control valve code 24. Where is the air control at on this car? can that as well as the EGR and Puge be cleaned or must they be replaced? What is the likeliness of finding a good one in the PnP yard?? Thanks for all your help USMB! --GoatBoy--
  11. Thanks for the reply GD! Ever-helpful you are! --GoatBoy--
  12. I can't find these in my local scrap yard was wondering if anyone has an extra lying around they could donate. Portland OR area I could pick up. The car is an 89 GL Sedan. I'm in need of a couple of pieces. Dome light lens, front passenger side corner marker lens and an oil filler cap. If you have any of these lying around can you par with them? I am doing some volunteer work for a friend in need-- A good friend of mine just bought her mom an 89 GL Sedan. Auto with 4wd. I believe it is MPFI engine. 145K on her and she is in pretty good overall condition. Got her for $300. See the girl lost her dad last year and her mom is raising three teenagers by herself. She had to give up their two financed cars when her hubby passed. So my friend bought this car as a surprise for her mom but it needs a couple of things. Doesn't that pull on your heartstrings a tad? That’s why I am helping her out. She is giving the car to her mom Next Friday, the anniversary of her fathers death. They have a girly day planned. They are getting massages and facials and whatnots. She is just going to pull up in the Sube and hand her the keys with a "Here ya go mom!" I am in charge of getting it in shape to present to her. It seems to run okay. Needs to pass emissions yet. Installing new front axle this weekend. General tune up stuff. But I need the couple of parts listed above. Not Necessary but would help the appearance of the car a bit. Thank you, --GoatBoy-- PS Oh yeah and a fuel cap too!
  13. Okay I am at work. Erin, my friend in need won't be here for a couple of hours yet. If there isn't anyone with a CV Shaft to donate then can someone tell me where I might find a good deal on one in the Oregon area or perhaps online? Thank You --GoatBoy--
  14. I'm in the market for one myself! Any kind will do.
  15. Anybody else? I'd like to be able to give her the news tomorrow at work is she is going to have to come up with the money to buy or some kind hearted soul offered on up. Thank You, --GoatBoy--
  16. Cool. Thanks for the advice, and if you find that axle let me know! She doesn't want to give it to her mom until that axle is fixed. --GoatBoy--
  17. Greetings all. I have a request! A good friend of mine just bought her mom an 89 GL Sedan. Auto with 4wd. I believe it is MPFI engine. 145K on her and she is in pretty good overall condition. Got her for $300. See the girl lost her dad last year and her mom is raising three teenagers by herself. She had to give up there two financed cars when her hubby passed. So my friend bought this car as a suprise for her mom but it needs a couple of things. #1 is a front CV shaft. One of the joints is grinding pretty good on left turns. Does anyone have a good used shaft that they could donate to this vehicle. She needs this car to be safe and reliable as she transports kids up to WA on a regular basis. So if anyone can throw a CV shaft my way to stuff in the front of this sedan it would be greatly appreciated. Also the car has been sitting for a couple years and has a real good valve tick coming from the passenger side. Any suggestions on quiting it down? SeaFoam or MM Oil? Ideas? Oil pressure seems good. Thanks everyone in advance! GoatBoy

  20. I just put a new fuel filter back by the pump about a month ago but I did get high centerd on a big mound of snow and ice last week. The car has been fine since then but mayb I did jar something back there and it is just now roaring its ugly head. --GoatBoy--
  21. My all stock 85 GL Wagon just started getting an attitude yesterday. I noticed awhile ago that if I did alot of rough road driving or hit my driveway with speed (inclined driveway) that it messed up the float or something and the car would idle but if you depressed the throttle at all, soft or hard, the car would stutter and die. A few restarts and it was fine. Well Yesterday it did it again. But . . . after I got it going again every time I came to a stop the car would just die. Not stutter or anything just "Blaaaaaah. . . ." dead. Turn the key without touching the throttle and it would start and idle fine. But if you blip the throttle at all or race the enigine or drive it, as soon as you let off the throttle it would just "Blaaaaaah . . ." DIE! It starts back up just fine and idles. I have cleaned the carb with spray cleaner and it appears the choke is working as it should. I'm at a loss other than finally replacing it with a weber which is not a finacially possible option right now. Anybody have any ideas?? --GoatBoy--

  23. 85 GL d/r 4x4 Wagon with 293,700 miles. I have only had the car about 2 months. I would assume it is the original engine but I don't know for sure. Anyone have an idea how I could tell? --GoatBoy--
