1984 subaru trouble code 11 help!
Goatboy replied to gmcfan's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Too bad you are so far away from me GMCFAN. I could look at it for you. Mine was doing the same thing. I have the Hitachi carb though. I can get my idle down to about 200 now and still runs smooth-ish. Doesn't die though. I have mine set to about 700-800 rpm. To fix mine I lubed the cable good and also the pivot points under the dash for the pedal. Adjusted the cable position and the fast idle cam screw on the carb and made sure the choke butterfly valve was opperating freely. --GoatBoy-- -

We should compile a list of Instant Messenger names or something. I sit in front of this computer all day long. I am on AIM all day. VaughnGC is my screen name if anyone cares. --GoatBoy-- -
I love the HELP racks.

ea81 hydroluc moter hesitates on throttle up
Goatboy replied to Mr. Carb's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I would put my money on vacuum leak. Probably where the carb mounts to the intake or the intake to the heads. While it is running at idle spray carb clean around the base of the carb and the intake to engine mounting area. If the idle changes at all then you have a leak there and you need to put new gaskets in. If you do have a leak in one of these places you could try and tighten the attaching hardware a tad before trying to replace the gaskets. Don't tighten it to much when it is hot though, I tried this on mine and twisted a carb mounting stud off, metal got to soft when hot. If you do that then you will have to pull and put new gaskets on as well as a new mounting stud. I would just spray the dickens out of the carb. Inside and out. Make sure the choke butterfly valve is moving freely. If that gums up at all it could cause hesitation. Check your timing to but I would be it is a vacuum leak of sticky choke valve. My 2 cents. --GoatBoy-- -
Why did you bump this LUVMYBRAT? Did your questions not get answered?? They are not accepting any new gallery images and you need some sort of graphics editor to change the size of your avatar file. I can help you with the second one if you read the above posts. --GoatBoy--

Should be internal. Back me up on this one someone? --GoatBoy--

If I ever get something set-up I will post it on the board here. --GoatBoy--

Coolio! I'll do that or make my own on my server. I never can seem to find the time however. I'll do one of the two eventually. --GoatBoy--

I was curious myself about the album here on the site. As far your avatar goes you need an image editor. If you wnat I could do it for you. Email it to me at GregoryVaughn (at) Captaris.Com and I can get it right back to you so you can use it as your avatar. --GoatBoy--

Replaced the altenator with a Remanufactured unit from Baxters. Jumped it and it was just fine. Jumpy tach no longer. Voltage reading is between 12 and 13 volts steady. Well until I have the heater fan, headlights, wipers and tunes cranked at idle, then it reads about 11 volts. THe biggest draw seems to be when I turn on the heater fan. That seems to account for about a volt all by itself. Anyway, shes back on the road for now. Thanks to all who chimed in on this one. Laterz --GoatBoy--

Today while driving in really hard rain, I mean standing water on the freeway, my volt gauge dropped to like 9 volts. In addition the tach was really jumpy. Seemed to still run fine though. Drove to a couple of different places with several miles in between with no change in condition, then parked it for awhile and when I came out it was dead. Nothin. Any Ideas? I have a high powered stereo system hooked up. Two amplifiers that pull a lot of power from the car. Do you think this might have fried the altenator and or Voltage regulator? Is the Voltage Regulator internal or external to the Altenator on this model? I see both parts listed on website auto parts stores. 85 GL Wagon with a 1.8 carb motor. Thank You in advance. --GoatBoy--

I've heard of that stuff. I have never used it but want to try it. Of course thats if I can visually spot the breaks in my defroster grid. Only the top four or five veins work in my wagon. Its annoying as hell. Its just enough that I can't see anything but the roof of the car behind me. Grrrr --GoatBoy--

Have them pull a stock ignition coil for you and then compare it to yours. One is taller than the other. I can't remember which is which right now but it compare it to yours and then you will know what ignition system you have. Cha-Ching!! --GoatBoy--

I think he may be refering to the connectors for the ECU. So it would be under the dash on the drivers side. --GoatBoy--

people with webers chime in

You guys are making me want a Weber. I had one on a 73 Celica I used to own. Didn't know much about it though. My wagon is just plain gutless on hills, especially with passengers. I can spin my stock sized tires pretty good in first gear though! But still. Would like a little more oomph. Maybe enough to tow my ATVs and Dirt Bikes up into the mountains without it being to much of a dog on the climb up. --GoatBoy-- -
Maybe Mudrat79 could hook you up. Of course shipping would be outragous I think coming from Eugene Oregon here in the US. --GoatBoy--

What is this mystery part??
Goatboy replied to Goatboy's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Mine went out all together. Originally it was just 1 and 2 that didn't work. But then all of them went out. I tapped a hot wire and tapped the line to the fan and threw a toggle switch into the mix. The weird thing is that the switch flipped on still allows me to adjust the spped through the regular fan speed selector. So I flip the toggle on and then can adjust the fan speed by the regualr switch. But only 3 and 4 still work. Just like before. This wasn't intended. So I am not sure how I managed that. But I eventually would like for it to work normally again. --GoatBoy--
