I don't want to copy The Austin, but...

if you want the spray paint to hold up, you might as well do it right.use one covering coat of primer, then paint, then i would highly recomend putting a coat of krylon crystal clear (clear coat).this will protect the paint somwhat, because the scratches will be absorbed by the clear coat.let each coat harden in the sun, or it will be too soft, and scratch with anything.you probly know all this, but i just felt like writing it. good photoshopping, and it should turn out pretty sharp and pissed off looking:grin: -
ohh, just never had one go on a sube, but i guess it could be if they have cooling channels.

i think he`s talkin a 70`s cvcc motor for its simplicity.i used a 78 cvcc as a fields vehicle for the longest time, and the drive train was bullet proof.sadly, i let it sit during the winter, and when i started it, the timing belt broke.an early 80`s toyota 1.8 wouldn`t be a bad choice either, it would be rwd, and there are tons and tons of mods available for them.my friend has one that will pop the front wheels of the ground on hard takeoffs:) whats wrong with using a stock 1600 ea71, or another sube motor so you can keep the 4wd??they aren`t power houses, but neither were the old cvcc`s. -

if you ever want to sell the rims that are on it, let me know:brow: changing motors is really overrated, its really a piece of cake (or pie), for your first motor, just take the time to do it right.lifting it is the hardest part, i would recomend a hoist or a helping hand if you are a small guy.when removing the replacement motor at a junk yard, just cut everything, and don`t take anything off the motor, it makes it alot easier to install.i can answer most questions you may have, as i have done many motors in the past few years.good luck with your desicsion, -Jon -

So this beast was given to me... what to do?
75subie replied to Luth's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
do ya want to sell the old wheels? that is a beautiful car.i don`t think subaru made a 2.1 liter, but you could put a 2.2 liter in there.they are stock in the 90-94 legacys.you would need to do some cutting to get it in there.personally, for simplicity i would go with a ea81 and a weber, it should have no problem pushing 31 inchers... well it is a sube so its not going to be a power house, but good enough. -Jon -
will a 99 outback 2.5 dual cam eng. fit in a 98 forester 2.5 w/o modding?if modding is needed, what has to be done?my uncle asked me, but i am not real farmiliar with newer subes engine wise.his has a blown head gasket, and he picked up a obw motor w/ only 60k real cheap.any help is appreciated, Jon

i just got back from harry`s today.i bought 2 seats for the brat, and a few other parts for my other cars.there was tons of subies there.i didn`t see a gen 1, but there is indeed a couple of turbo wagons.there was only one brat that was pretty shot.a couple coupes/legacys/loyales/ect.if we had more room, i would have pulled a couple motors.there was a real nice 2.5 w/ only 60k.most of the older ones were missing carbs.i bet there was over 75 subes in the yard.i did find 3 complete rupp minibikes along the way:) thats why there was no room for motors:-\ later, Jon
