  1. Very Interesting! Maybe I'll just run Blizaks year round. It's Arctic-Like here 4 - 5 months of the year... Fat Tony
  2. Actually they do. All those extra grooves pinch at the surface of even ice. And while 10% better stopping in an uncontrolled slide might not seem like much, when you stop 2 feet short of disaster, it's well worth the extra expense. But "Philosophically" I agree with you in that circumstance. Driving carefully with All Seasons is better than being Cavelier with Blizak's. I guess they probably last about 10K 15K on regular pavement, don't they? Fat Tony - Ice Jockey
  3. Yep, we're heading Right down I-75 at Mach .1!!! (75 MPH) Thanks for the Support, Fat Tony
  4. Here there Soobie Lovers! I am taking my '95 Outback on it's first road trip! I play in a Bar-B-Core Band called SAUCE! We're located in Metro-Detroit. http://www.myspace.com/saucewillrise We're playing a show/Big BBQ Party in Nashville this weekend. The ORIGINAL plan was to pile us, and another local band, MacAurthur Street Mafia, http://www.myspace.com/macstreetmafia into 2 vans, and convoy down there together. Fun! Projected Gas price, $800+!!! So it was decided to CRAM 8 (Smelly!) musicians, their gear(Band & Camping) into 1 van. Projected gas price $350(One van gets better MPG than the other...) The thought of spending 8 hours crammed into a van, driving across 4 states in the middle of the summer with No Air Conditioning did not apeal to me. So, the drummer (Serious Defect) and I decided to pile our gear into "Soobie", and split the cost of gas, which is projected to be about $100. (400 miles each way, 800 miles; at 25 MPG = 32 Gallons@$3/Gal = $96) We'll be enjoying Front Seat Comfort, Air Conditioning, Premium Strereo, and only 2 Smelly musicians! Hmmm...Now that I think about it, we're the only 2 that have college educations... I'll get some Good Pics of "Soobie" in the Smokey Mts, and other points of interest. Anyone in the Nashville area that wants to come to the party, PM me, and I'll give you details. Fat Tony
  5. Thanks for the Heads Up. I got a GREAT Deal on these ($165 W/Steelies) with one month of use on them. My thoughts were to put these on from December - March, and then put the Kellys back on in the spring. I was hoping to get 2 or 3 Winters out of them, and the same out of the Kellys...Assuming the Outback holds up! Fat TOny
  6. For winter I've got a set of Michelin Arctic Alpine's. Uber-Grippen Tire-Kinden!!! Fat TOny - 95 Outback (Glorified Legacy?)
  7. I replaced mine a few weeks ago. Maybe a month...'95 Outback. I got a $39 part from Murrays. I used a Long & a Short extension on the ratchet. I had the engine warmed up, and the bolt came out fairly easy. (Shoulda let the car cool before replacing though. ) The hardest part was disconnecting the wire connecter. Whole "Procedure" took 20 minutes, including driving to Murrays to get the part. Car runs GREAT Now! Better MPGs too... Best of luck on your repair, Fat TOny
  8. I just loaded my '95 Outback with Kelly Touring Golds. The sales guy drives a Subaru SVX, and these are what he's running. He "Banzai's" the mud & snow (His term) with these tires, and said they have done good. They're rated as 60K mile tires, and were just under $500, including front end alignment...After 500 miles no problems! (Go figure...):-p
  9. Thanks, I'll give Renick a peek. Yeah, I'm not looking to NOS my Soobie, but was just curious about Dry vs Wet on this platform in general. BTW, gas milage up to 27 MPG with new Knock Sensor! +3 is good... Fat Tony
  10. Hey, where does one go to get Bolt-On performance mods for a 1995 - 2003 Legacy/Outback? Just simple stuff like intake, strut-brace, eurothane bushings, etc...(Header/Catback exhaust might be nice too!) And just a HYPOTHETICAL question, but would a 95 Outback use a dry or wet Nitrous system? Thanks, Fat Tony
  11. Changed the Knock Sensor last night. Despite some minor burns, and a nice cut on my thumb, it is a HUGE success! Car runs so much better. To celebrate I took my dog to the Park. There are some "Rally-Grade" twisties I know of there. I drove the course once to look for obsticles, and the next 3 times I just went for it! I THINK the dog is getting the Hang of this AWD-Drifting! Next project, Radio/CD-Player! Fat Tony - 95 Outback
  12. Yeah, a Cooler engine makes for an easier replacement. I removed the intake tube to the throttle body as well. Another thing to watch out for is the clip on the throttle linkage. Mine was Needle-Sharp, and I got a cut worthy of stitches. Of course I just wrapped some duct tape around it and kept working! Mine had a single crack on the top of the sensor. And even unbolted I couldn't see it. But once I pulled it out, and got some SUNSHINE on the part, it was pretty obvious. Fat Tony
  13. Yeah, Welcome aboard! I just got my 2nd Soobie a month ago, a '95 Outback. I'm loving it! (I'll love it more after I replace my Knock Sensor this afternoon!) Fat Tony
  14. Incredable! Unit was delivered in 2 days. It is a BREEZE! And it reads the code, and TELLS you what it means. No need to plug into a laptop, or look up the codes. I'm triggering a Knock Sensor, as expected. I've cleared the code, driven to Murrays Discount Auto, and they have the part listed for $39.95:banana: I pick it up tonight, and should be "All Better" this time tomorrow. I'm suspicious of the CHEAP price of the part, but Murray's has come through with XLNT prices, and decent quality in the past. (Except their K&N Filter! ) I'll keep you posted Fat Tony
  15. My nieghbor does her Mini-Van's black plastic with liquid shoe polish. It looks great for a few months. Plus she wears her Bikini when she applies it! Probably better stuff out there though... Fat Tony
  16. Sounds like GREAT advice. I'll probably do a Tranny PURGE before Winter, and make sure it's all New fluids. Tranny shifts Very Crisp from 1 to 2, and smoth from 2-3 & 3-4. Fat Tony
  17. Oh I did!!! It was HORRID! I thought someone had dumped Gear Oil in an AT! It took 1 cup short of a FULL gallon to re-fill. The fluid went from the color of a Stout Beer, to Faygo Red-Pop! Not quite Pink, but Reddish, and transparent. It was shifting good before, and I don't notice much of a difference. But I feel BETTER. I changed the Dif & the rear axel as well. Replaced with GL-5 75-90 weight gear oil. It gets as low as -10F in the winter here, and will flirt with 100F in the summer. I haven't flushed the radiator, but the coolant looks nice & Green, and the temp gauge stays horizontal once warmed up. Timing Belt is the next BIG job. I need to pay off my tires first...:-p Thanks for all the input. Keep it coming! Fat Tony p.s. What is a GOOD <$200 stereo for these cars? I have cassette, I NEED CD, and MP3 would be nice!
  18. No, but SURPRISINGLY it was almost new. The last owner did a tune-up, including new plugs, wires, and even MORE surprising, PCV valve less than a year ago. Fuel filter too...New brake pads & rotors too. Thanks for the input, Fat Tony
  19. Quick update (to myself mostly) 1995 Outback - MI LicPlate "SOOBIE" 131,000 miles 24 MPG W/CEL DONE: Changed all fluids & filters, Cleaned MAF. 4 new Kelly Gold Touring tires 195-60-15 Front-end aligned Touched up minor rust with POR-15 NEEDS: Check Engine Light cleared (OBD-II scanner on order) Timing Belts & accessable seals changed (August time frame) Stereo W/CD player (July!) Rear area cover (Minor detail) Comments: I'm REALLY liking this car. I cleared the codes by taking the battery off over-night. It runs REALLY good while the CEL is off. I was told that it is the Knock Sensor triggering it. I removed it, cleaned the contacts, and re-installed it. Lasted about 100 miles before triggering again. I've ordered an OBD-II reader. I'll wait for that to get here and work these issues out. I just have to re-set my clock every morning that I have to clear codes. Minor PITA... But this is one Cool SuBaRu!!! Much better than my Loyale. Fat Tony
  20. I just ordered one of these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/PRO-TROUBLE-OBD2-ENGINE-CODE-READER-SCANNER-OBD-II_W0QQitemZ190126335688QQihZ009QQcategoryZ43989QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem $50 delivered, and sounds like it will do everything I want...I'll let you know once I get it. Fat Tony
  21. Cool. I guess coming from the Loyale World I should just be HAPPY to have as many Subaru wheels available that I do. I was considering a set of "Pizza Wheels" off of an 87 Shelby Charger. But it might look <Hetro... Fat Tony
  22. Would this list be correct for a '95 Outback as well? I just got one, and the seller doesn't remember ever changing it...150K, so I'm ASSUMING it's the original one. After tires and fluids, it's next on the list. Fat Tony
  23. I'm seaching as well...Just triggered the Code last night.:-\
  24. Hey, I was just wondering what other types of rims Subaru's can swap with. I've got a 95 Outback 5 lug. Just wondering what options we have with other makes, ie Dodge, Chevy, Ford, etc...Any Wheel Guru's out there? Fat (Lazy) Tony
