Splitting HEAD'ache - 56K beware.
Once you actually port complete heads are you going to have room to port some of those areas?

Its Alive!!!!!its Alive!!!!!(FIXED on page 2)
The last tests were done with the hose to the IAC connected. I have three possible causes that may be making the engine do this.possibly defective wire or coil output. The fact that the O2 sensor is connected but not in the exhaust so it causes the car to run really rich.Possibly the ECU,becuase it controls idle and spark, and I have a missfire and idle issues. First I will get a helper to hold the car at 1000rpm then I will pull spark wires and see if that does anything. If not I will disconnect the O2 sensor, sure it will throw a code but maybe the engine will idle as it won't be flooded with fuel. Finally if no change I will unplug the ECU that in there and substitute it with another '90 ECU... Now I just have to find a helper...If any of those above don't do anything then I will be very stumped...

Uberoo replied to photo2001's topic in 1990 to Present Legacy, Impreza, Outback, Forester, Baja, WRX&WrxSTI, SVXI love wagons.I would kill for an STI forester. But anything as a complete car that says STI is way out of my budget so I will have to settle with STI EA82 wagon...

Its Alive!!!!!its Alive!!!!!(FIXED on page 2)
after messing with the timing I got it dead on.And to make me happier it was exactly where I started. It seems to miss when I hold the engine at sub 1000 rpm.Im am pretty sure it misses above 1000 but I wouldnt be able to hear it.When I hold it below 1000 rpm I can hear it go bang bang *** bang, bang bang *** bang, etc.so its only running on 3 holes... Right now The O2 sensor is connected but its monitering the o2 count of the air so its running really rich. But I don't belive that could cause a constant miss and lack of idle. edit: oh yea it also runs on with the key off for a few seconds.sometimes I can rev the motor when it diesels. It wasnt doing this before tinkering with timing.

no I dont have access to a timing light.I'll pull the radiator and the covers and see what I can find. The crank pully should be easy to come off, being as I have the DR 5 speed and the EA82 flywheel...ol punch in the flywheel trick..

I cleaned the IAC and the PVC system while I was there. No change.Im wondering if the timing belt might have skipped a tooth because it won't idle unless I have my foot on the throttle. And below 1000 RPM the motor and the entire car shakes violently(no something boxer's are supposed to do) I dont have any problem checking its just I am running an EA81 radiator in a EA82 car(no space and very hard to get in...especially with the powersteering hoses in the way...

What shaft?I took it of and there really isn't a shaft that sticks out.If I look inside it theres a shaft with a spring wound around it.Is that it?IAC is on a 1990 motor...

it will be lifted when ever I can find a job...

Saggin Wagon
My 1987 GL wagon rear end is sagging because the EJ series stuff was in there for 4 months. As a matter of fact,I have negative rake.IE the back is lower than the front even with a EJ22 in the front.I will be lifting it whenever money permits,in the back will have the rear springs from a 70 chevelle so that will fix that issue. But in the meantime what should I do to get it back up to stock height or just level with the front?Accord springs sound to stiff for me..

My idle problems are more severe his is low idle, mine doesn't run unless I have my foot on the pedal(takes really light pressure to keep it at 1000,but with open headers it sounds SO good at 6K!!!!! is the IAC just held on by the 10 mm bolts that are visible or is something else there?

The IAC is located on the intake manifold just under the throttle body?right?Could someone show a pic of it or a better decription of it than chitens gives?

Its Alive!!!!!its Alive!!!!!(FIXED on page 2)
After a I made a throttle cable bracket. I jump started the subi.IT RUNS,ITS ALIVE!!!and my god is it increadably beastly(legacy Y pipe - cat, so just open headers) Except now it doesnt idle.If I take my foot of the gas it will run about 200 rpm then die or it dies once it gets to idle. That and the crush fitting I got for the oil pressure gauge didn't quite work so I have to find another fitting more like what came in the kit(accidentaly lost one...) then after this I need to wire in my voltmeter and put the interior back together. then it will be:burnout: time edit:it has a huge vaccum leak from the iac because I am missing its hose...

That might explain why it wont start
After making sure that fuel was at the engine and trying to start my ej22 swaped 87 wagon .That didn't work but I could here it make one or 2 febble bangs in like 2 rotations. So I decided to check the spark plugs.I have never seen spark plugs so bad.All of them had virtually NO ELECTRODE left, not to mention they were very carbon fouled.I would post pics but then this thread would become N rated not rated for anybody...lefts see if I replace those if it will start. As far as they plugs go I would be very supprised if they weren't the plugs the dealer installed back in 1990! gap is probally 1/8 of an inch as in .125" rather than .04
