EA81 with Turbo and SPFI...
Howdy yall, I got a question. Im tossing around Ideas for a vehicle I recently aquired, its an 86 Turbowagon. I dont like EA82 Turbos. EA81 Turbos are rare. I want it to stay turbo, but i want it to be reliable to some extent. I plan on lifting it 6 inches and doing something with the paint, and I realize turbos arent the greatest for offroading, but it would still be cool. SO, Anyways, I am looking for any advice on wether or not EA82 Turbo pistons can be used in an EA81, and if the SPFI sytem from an EA82 will be able to work with the EA82 turbo or an upgraded unit. Thanks in advance -Bill

78 Brat paintin' & detailin' questions
Personally, I think they look way better without the little strips, both my brats had them, but one went all the way to the front of the fender, and the other was like yours. Also, one was screwed on, the other riveted. Before, with trim and crappy body parts: and after trim removed:

XT vs XT6?
Apperently the rear sub assembly of the later vehicles in nothing close to the EA82 rear assembly. The diff however will bolt into the stock location, it should be basically the same as all the diffs in all the other subes as far as size and shape, but with innie axle stubs instead of outies i believe (someone who knows more will correct me here) but it should bolt right in to where the old r 160 comes out. then just mix and match axle parts and springs and brakes.

Added one to the fold.

there are some write ups on using legacy parts, in fact there is one that goes into detail of all the parts that have been tried, try searching a bit, I think it might be stickyed somewhere

XT vs XT6?
regular XTs and XT turbos are basically all EA82, which means the suspension and hubs are all EA82 and 4 x 140 mm bolt pattern. XT6 is like a precursor to the Legacy stuff, and is all 5 x 100 mm bolt pattern. Its also the easiest way to get 5 lug rear discs on EA82 suspension, or any EA series for that matter.

Hacked up EA82 Fender, $10. 1 EA82 side marker lamp assembly, $15. Proof that you know how to have a good time, Priceless. There are some things money can't buy, for everything else, there's Subaru.

- ever do this?
Ive had to kick my driver side rear door open from the inside of my car ever since I tightened the loose outer handle :-\ Also, after my rear window broke, occasionally a small peice of glass would lodge into the lacth mechanism in the hatch making it impossible to close it, it would just fly open. I thought it waas just toast so I strapped it shut with a tow strap for about a week until I took a closer look and found the problem. Hmm, Ive replaced a coil when all I had to do was replace a fusible link, Ive shot holes in my hood, Ive cut holes in my hood to help cool the motor when all it needed was a coolant change :-\ I have taken my car half apart just to get one axle out, breaking off several punches in the process, and the list goes on...- EA82 vs EA81spfi vs EA81 w/ea82 carb vs EA81 weber
I ran the Beast with a 70's Ford 2bbl carb on an EA82 for a while, which ran awesome, much more power over stock, then I swapped that out for the EA81 in it now, but i kept the EA82 manifold and Ford carb, and I noticed more low end torque and power, but a little less high end power. I have done some pretty crazy angles with the EA81/Ford carb setup too. Right now the throttle plate on the carb is buggered though, so I will be swapping to a Weber i got cheap after I fix some other more important problems on the car. - ever do this?
