  1. Ah OK thanks! So it's forester upper spring seats that are the ticket. It would have been nice if King Springs or Renick would have mentioned that... edit: Oh hey when you got your alignment done, did you need fastcam bolts or were the stock camber bolts adequate?
  2. Doesn't sound entirely unlike the issue on the early phase II 4eat's with slow to engage in drive but then is fine after that. Something about internal seal shrinkage preventing the rapid buildup of pressure or something. Do you have that ATF filter thingy installed? I haven't heard of that 'check valve' but a cheap/easy way to put something like that in would be to get a perma-cool filter mount from SummitRacing (about $15) and put an oil filter that fits the mount on there and put it in series with the cooler (just make sure the oil filter has an anti-drain back valve; most do - though not the OEM Subaru oil filter I don't think).
  3. First you want to read that code. '95 it probably has the ODBII connector. Pick up a cheap code reader at Pepboys or something and just leave it hooked up so you can read the code. It should work though '95 had some oddities about the ODBII. Some codes get stored in history so it might be readable even if the light isn't currently on. Anything else is just a guess. Sure maybe it is the cat. But maybe it isn't. Or if it has a rear o2 sensor it could be that. Or it could be any of a number of other things. edit: Though you say the engine light is flashing, not on solid? Some causes include engine misfire (check plugs and wires and use OEM and make sure coil connection to plug wires aren't corroded or degraded), and cam position sensor too far out of agreement with crank position sensor (if you haven't changed the timing belt yet it's overdue and the belt could be stretching).
  4. I've heard there's holes in the body where you can fit the socket&extension right through from the fender (like behind those plastic things in the wheel wells)?
  5. Hm that's interesting. Yes good thing it didn't do more damage. There's lots of stray objedts when gone amis in the engine compartment can cause engine stalling, including small animals.
  6. Hi and welcome! '96 Legacy 2.2L here too. Same issue last year. The sensor is a little tricky to see from the top of the engine. It's basically underneath one of the intake manifold pipes, sort of near the IACV. A good assortment of flex sockets, adapters, etc, makes the job easier.
  7. OK thanks for the info. It definitely doesn't look right. The confusing thing is the part # on the spring matches the part # listed in the King Springs catalog for an '00 Outback Wagon. Only thing I can think (other than mislabeled part/wrong application) is maybe in Australia the Outbacks have smaller diameter upper spring seats, like maybe from a Impreza or something. These same springs are listed for Forester as well.
  8. Well I put one together to see how it looks. You can see the spring doesn't really sit in the outer groove of the upper spring seat, but it seems like it might be OK? The King Springs catalog also shows these springs for Forester 99-01 so maybe that has different upper spring seats? These springs must have a high rate, it was difficult to compress it enough to get the nut started on the strut.
  9. That info was from http://www.subarupartsforyou.com I'm so glad they don't use trademotion
  10. Cool that you passed. Not sure about your '97, but some '96's reset all the I/M's every time the engine was shut off. So some of those got exemptions from the readiness tests.
  11. Yah I figure they're going to call the cops if I wave at them. People are sometimes way too serious. So I try to keep my eyes on the red light, esp. if I happen to have pole position.
  12. Yah everytime I see another Subaru, inside I want to wave and cheer at the person. But then I figure they might not share my enthusiasm..... I see many Subaru's where I work, and whenever possible I park next to one.
  13. Is there a smaller diameter upper spring seat available? Like maybe for Impeza or WRX? If so I think that would be the answer......?
  14. Ordered a new O2 sensor for '94 Legacy Wagon....I was surprised to see it said Bosch, same as the one I took out. I thought they were all Denso?
  15. The hubs are the same, at least they have the same part #: 28469FE000 HUB, REAR WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT FOR 1990-1999 LEGACYS ALL Same with the ABS sensor: 26740AA021 SENSOR ABS REAR RIGHT passengers side FOR 1990-1999 LEGACY ALL (non outback) 26740AA031 ENSOR ABS REAR LEFT drivers side FOR 1990-1999 LEGACY (non outback) ALL
  16. Hi, I'm hoping someone who has used Scorpion/King Springs KSFR-32 lift/raised springs can help me out. King Springs and RenickMotorsports both show these should work on an '00 Outback. However, the top of the spring, where it goes to the upper spring seat, seems too small diameter. It does not fit in the upper spring seat like the OEM spring does. It's about 6" dia. The OEM spring is about 6.75" dia. Has anyone else had this experience or have any suggestions on how to proceed? It seems like it might still work, it's just the spring won't be sitting in the outer perimeter of the seat (shown here without rubber piece): Other info: I also have KSFR-26 for Outback ~96. The top diameter on these seems about right (6.75"), though I'm not sure why it's 'flattened'. But these are supposed to be for my '96 not my '00: Saw II spring compressor:
  17. After like 97 or so even the 2.2L's are 105k mile interval I believe. You can find out for sure in the 'owners' section on Subaru.com where they have the maintenance intervals. From cars101.com: 2000 Outback Sport Wagon: Engine: Phase II, 2.2 L 4 cylinder aluminum alloy 16 valve SOHC boxer engine, Sequential Multi-port fuel injection, distributorless ignition Horsepower: 142 @ 5600 rpm Torque: 149 @ 3600 rpm 30,000 mile spark plug replacement
  18. Yah the evap will take the longest to set to 'ready'. I had to drive 100+ miles over three days to get that one to say ready. The others said ready pretty fast. I'm assuming you have a scan tool to see the monitor status. Not sure about CA, but in NY if you go in for inspection and the only reason it can't pass is the I/M's aren't 'ready' and the current inspection isn't already expired, I think you can get a 10 day extension sticker.
  19. Didn't the alternators from that era have a recall or something for sudden failure? You will get the brake/abs light in this case because it gets ground or something through the alternator field. OK - if you needed an oil change and you could choose between only Iffy Lube or PepBoys, which would you choose? Or just skip the oil change...
  20. Hm....when you say blow do you mean it pops off the hose barb, or the line itself ruptures? If the line is rupturing I'd just replace them all with new. If they're popping off the hose barb then that is a little odd.....exhaust blowing into coolant?
  21. Ah ok good work on finding it! Just pick up parking brake kit. It will have new shoes for both sides and fastners for the e-brake cable. The springs aren't too expensive so might as well replace those and the hold down pins and cups. The adjusters are like $13 or $25 each can't memba so might want to reuse those. Here's from before I redid mine in case it is helpful for reference:
