  1. It looks to me like this deal would hinge on price; likely it will need a replacement engine. Just my 2
  2. I don't know the advantages, but I do know I very much like the style. Guess I am showing my age. John
  3. I am surprised this happened to you, my Forester's interior is in solid shape with many years/miles on it. I find most car makers/ Dealers about the same in terms of warranty, they don't want to talk to you after the expiration. With respect, I disagree with your preferance of having a greater tolerance for mechanical problems: This week I get my car back (engine rebuild) and this cost $ 4000.00. In contrast I have priced my seats, and Subaru makes them rather easy to replace (just the cushions) at about $400.00 each. I find it much easier and less expensive to find good quality used upholstery for Suabaru, this as opposed to mechanical parts.
  4. Subaru all The Way! These cars are excellent in a world of the medeocre. My Forester will likely be the last car I have. John
  5. Nipper: Don't feel alone, I get mine back Friday with a complete rebuild and a $4000. bill. I was tired of listening to the knock, but I have to admit the car never has left me along side the rode. John
  6. I agree with the Above! One time I opened the drain and ( because of rust whatever) it would not close; My mechanic told me most shops don't touch it, but instead simply remove the front of lower radiator hose. John
  7. After a year of listening to engine knock istead of the stereo, I will be having the Ej25 SOHC completely rebuilt next week! My question is this: All the seals will be replaced and obviously that includes head gaskets. Will I still need to use the Subaru Coolant Conditioner after this is done? Thanks in advance for any imput. John
  8. I agree on the longevity of the Subaru plugs, but I still recomend taking them out every 35k to clean and inspect, moreover, If left in too long the plugs might be very tough to remove. John
  9. Another worthy thing to keep in mind: If it ever overheats or appears to be headed that way, Turn the engine off.Subaru engines (all alluminun alloy) are very sensitive to this, moreover, I should know since I am having mine compltely rebuilt next week. John
  10. I have ordered several things from SPFYou and thus far they have been exellent! Moreover their online catalog is very large and if nothing else gives you idea of the parts required by you car. John
  11. You also might check our ebay. I have gotten some really good quality parts for very reasonable prices. Obviously you have to be extra cautious, that is to be on guard for unsavory people. John
  12. Leather seats would be awesome, however, if you decide to keep what you have it is likely you could buy just the seat cushions themselves retaining all your hardware. This at least is how my forester is made. It might be a little cheaper then having them reupholstered. John
  13. I heard a simillar case ( though transmission) where walmart changed this individuals oil and removed the transmission filter as well. Aparently forgot to install the ill removed filter and not long after that car was stranded along side of the rode, moreover, Wallmart agreed to have replaced the now blown transmission. John
  14. Hey Thanks! You must have the magic touch or a better internet connection, lol. Yea I thougt about replacing the original cookie cutters, but they scratched so darn easy I just couldn't justify the $ 900.00 Thanks again
  15. I hope these loaded properly. John Sorry everyone but I give up; Two hours of trying I get anything to load on here, no luck:confused: For the truely interested you can view my car at Cardomain.com '99 Subaru Forester Iowa ( you will have to click on advancec search button). It is a cool site and alot fun to peruse! John
  16. Hi: A month back I replaced my tires (cooper) with four new Uniroyal Tiger Paws. Very pleased so far, moreover they seem to have great wet traction, and the nice soft ride I was looking for. They cost about $100.00 a piece. John
  17. Hi: One form that is not OK is the type my Subie has( mechanic says its rod noise). The knock is simillar to a diesel sound and does not go away. I am told the engine is on the way out. John
  18. I recently replaced all four of mine ('99 Forester) with a slightly larger tire. This, as I was insistant about getting white letter tires. No problem whatsoever. I do recomend you always run four identical tires on these all wheel drive cars. John
  19. This happened to old car of mine ( non heated mirrors). I had an auto glass specialist replace just the mirror, moreover it was substantialy cheaper then then the whole unit, and they even cut it to fit. John
  20. I forgot to mention: The steel posts( behind the glove boz) are knife sharp. I got a good cut to remember it by, however I am not complaining as I'm gratefull there is still steel on a car! John:grin:
