  1. Hey Nipper: Well I got the Polk Audios (BS650) in: Today:clap:; They sound great I think, moreover, an amp is a wise idea, but my budget can't swing it right now. For the money and in their class, I recomend these speakers. John
  2. Nipper : I get my polk Audio front speakers ( from Crutchfield) tomorrow, morever, I will let you know my oppinion of them after installation. John
  3. I did my last new car (Ziebart); I think it was helpful to a point-I also live in the rust belt, moreover, When I traded it in I noticed a few small spots ( Bubble) forming. I think the metals from the factory play a keyrole in rust, regardless of treatment, and certainly the local one lives in is a major factor. Again I do think it is worthwhile, just not to the level advertisers would have you believe. John
  4. I am no mechanic, but having both forms of knock on my '99 Forester I can tell you what others in the know have told me; First if you have knock like yours, the cold start up type, it is nothing to worry about, and has no effect on the engine, moreover, it is very common so I am told for these engines. Less common is what my car also has(I believe is due from over heating)- The persistant Knock all the time, it sounds kinda like a Diesel. My engine is on the way out. John
  5. My two cents: I agree with the above, moreover I find getting some parts for Subaru a bit a challenge and rather expensive. Four new tires appear to be cheap insurance to me. John:brow:
  6. I don't know threw out all the litterature( except receipt) awhile back; I think they're in the upper range and they cost $ 100.00. John
  7. Hi: If you want a free ( like new) set of speakers, email me. I am upgrading from my Boston ('6 1/2 in front doors ) to Polk Audio. These two year old boston speakers work fine, but really need an amp as they lack bass and midrange. You will only need to send a prepaid mailing Box. John email is john36iowa@yahoo.com
  8. Thanks: Could you elaborate a little on the temp sensor? Do I have to run a line through the firewall all the way to the front, or is everthing already there, and all I need to do is connect it up ? Thanks in advance. John:banana:
  9. Yea it is cool; How hard is it to intall. I know it goes where the clam shell is on my '99 Forester, but whats involved in hooking up the electrical? John:-\
  10. You might try repainting the trim yourself; the Trim paint is much easier to work then anything else I tried. John
  11. If you can find a 3M product buy it, their spray products are very hard to beat! John
  12. I would do all of the above, plus: run engine cleaner trough it just prior to oil change, Fuel filter, transmission filter ( this car has a spin-on type),and fuel system cleaner(seafoam or simillar). John
  13. I have a friend from Africa; he tells me Subarus are very popular with those who afford them; they are built so well they can survive the terrible roads. Late model American made cars there, are rare. John
  14. There is one place I would recomend the Petroleum Jelly- The battery terminals! I coat them once a year, and they still look almost new (no white dust) when the time comes. John
  15. I bought it on my last(new) car; The few things that that did fail, were not covered by this form of insurance. Personaly I wouldn't do it again, unless I had teanage boys driving it or did alot hard driving. John
  16. Did you know: Up to recently, when they became financially unstable, GM held a 20% share of Subaru. I am glad they're out, go Subaru! John:banana:
  17. I had the same issue with my Forester, moreover I think Subaru uses a softer rubber ( in places) in oder to get a tighter seal ; I do as OB99W recomends, however I use a product called Meguires for vinyl/rubber. It lasts about six months - my car is a daily driver. John
  18. I don't know about mileage in regards to the boots, but I can tell you what my mechanic told me about my cracked boot, ( '99 with 131000k) he stated not to, " leave the front wheels turned when parked." Indeed I had no problems, until parking isues arrived at work, and I left the wheels strongly pointed to one direction. I think I leared a lesson. John
  19. I run a fuel additive cleaner through my '99 Forester every four months, moreover, fuelwise it runs pretty smooth, and I don't think the additive ( high quality ) would do any harm. John
  20. ? Does anyone know how much these unique parts(VCD, Solenoid) cost and whats the typical service life? John
  21. I always loved the under the hood spare! I wondered though, did the heat shorten the tires life span? John
  22. Howdy: Just two months ago the passenger side innerboot split on my'99 forester; I had it replaced, moreover, my service person stated it was possible that parking with the wheels stronglys in one direction ( other than staight) could be a factor- and due to poor parking at work, that was something I had recently and done regularly. The car has132,000 K and so far the rear boots are original. John
  23. I don't have any real knowledge on this one; But my guess is :these are to protect the roof from things you plan to transport, moreover to make the car look cool. John
  24. Hey: I thought I was the only one with this quirk, Moreover, I Will give the low fuel credit- it seems to come on timely. John
