hot or not hot that is the question.
i know this i did the wiring for the EVR so i could put the other alt on but its not that it runns then dies but as soon and i let of the key it dies. i know why its happining my coil isnt getting a constant hot when the key is in the run/on position. what should i look for ? and the way i seted my theory is i ran a constant hot to the coil positive and it runns fine. so what could be wrong to make the coil not stay hot when the key is on ? it is a 1980 subaru gl-5 1600 with ea71.

ok so my coil isnt staying ON when the key is released from the start position. so the car will start but as soon as you stop cranking it it dies. i ran a constant hot to the coil and tryed to start the car WOOOH it runns fine but i dont want to have it all jerry rigged (lol no offence to jerry) but i think it might have happend when swaped from ER to IR (exturnal regulater to internal regulator) so dose any one know what i might have done wrong ? thanks in advance Rob:burnout:PS" It is an EA71

i beleav so the splines for the engine are the same for all ea82s THE 4X4 TRANNYS ARE DIFFERENT!!!!!!! but as long as it is 2wd to 2wd and 4x4 to 4x4 you will be fine. PS why not just get the flywheel turned ?

ok so im pretty shur it has points it is an ea71 has the voltage regulator on the iner fender and the little box on the coil also it has a porcelain condecer like on the old dodges and plymouths. i know you can take an ea81 coil and disty and use it. but i think my voltage regulator is bad. Well i have an internaly regulated alternator that i can put on the car and i want to know if i can just put it in and remove the external regulator.also how do i time it ? thanks alot guys. rob

ok well shoot i hate that i cant but i havent got the money to go get it so go for it guys. i guess i will just throw an ea81 or ea82 in it i think i will go with the ea82 cut the sub frame and weld in patches so it will fit oh yeah run the 2wd stuff lol idk i will cross that bridge when it comes.

YES i know i did nt spell it corectly but dont bother. ok so i am messing around with my hitachi yes i said hitachi well i took all my vac lines off and turns out it runns fine. well for the time being i have the nipples on the intake and carp caped off. i have a spare carb i am gonna take and pull apart well not litaraly but take off the nipples most of them just unscrew from the carb and im gonna use set screws to plug them to make it have a cleaner look there is also an electric choke that is coming off as well. i am going to replace it with a manual choke just because i want to be in control of my car. it has a high idle at the moment i havent adjusted my fule air mixture for the non vaclines. i am usinga turbo car fule pump i know they pump faster and more fluent than N/A ones and i figure with a return line any unspent fule will go back to the tank but as my car is an off road vehicle it will be better on hill climbs. i will take pics of the carb today befor and after. let me know what you guys think. :burnout: my 1980 gl 1600 runns the ea71 when my disty busted it tooka few teath off the crank shaft (the gear thta turns the disty) so i want a spare just to be safe and with the ea71 dissapearing the way they are i need all the help i can get. ps when you say you have the intake and al that stuff you have disty yoo right ? thanks rob

hey guys i have been on here fora wile but alway in the older gen i havent been able to find any good info on my 80 ea71 so i figured id dip in here. first off its a 1980 gl wagon 2wd 5sp ea71 nice lil car justa little surface rust here and there. but my disty came apart last week and i want to convert it from points over to electric. i have the coil and disty for that but i need to know how to get TDC anym arkings and such. like i said im new to the little engine (push rods of fury) thanks alot Rob.

ok so i have been thinking alot lately and i have two cars 86 wagon no engine tranny drivlines axles(totally striped) also i have another wagon its an 85 also totaly striped. one was gonna go the junk yard the other was gonna be my trailer. well i got to thinking i can use the front end off the 85 and use it to build a test stand (wheels and all so it can be moved more easy) then the back will be used for a BBQ :slobber: :slobber: YES i said BBQ i want to cut it in the thinist area right down the rear door jam and make a gas grill trailer. make a set of burners out of steel pipe drill small holes all the way down it and havea couple of rows. then a big grill over the top (roof will be gone&windows) and i thought abotu having a charcoal but it would melt the floor of the car so ditched that idea. it is going to be in planning for a wile but i havea good feeling. now the other wagon i am makinga camp trailer. i have been talking to bratsrus1 and i have come to a plan i am gonna cut it infront of the rear doors (roof and all) and leave the roof in the back so basicly cuttign the car in half. that would reduce the toung weight so my sube could haule it and be safe but to make it so i can sleep in it i have to mod it so i can still fit my 6ft 5 frame inside it lol so i am gonna have a flip ot framme that oppens out the back just an extension for a futon mattres so i can open the hatch then flip the frame out, then i can crawl in ther and still be able to stretch out yes it wont be toataly inclosed but its camping not a 5 star hotel. i will be puting pics up soon.
