so the head gaskets are different from the 83-84 ea81's compared to the later ones or the turbo ones? with the turbo, i dont see why there should be any difference? ive often seen EA81/T on head gasket sets, the one i brought once says it, and it is on there now, just wondering if anyone has had any differneces with the turbo ones? the valve and intake ones i aint worried bout, i got aftermarket heads and inlets ive got a block with 9.7:1 compression pistons or similar that i brought, SUB4 dualport heads, a choice of 2 hot cams, and just need the bits inbewtween to build it up, will investigate things further, just putting a bit of research in before i start buying stuff!

right, so im looking at an engine rebuild kit for sale, and i noticed that is says EA81 for years 1983-1984 and Subaru Brat and 1800 - EA81 1.8L Turbo engine. P/N 592-100. also, does the turbo part make any difference? im assuming it doesnt the question is then, is there a difference in EA81's from 83-84 compared to the ones after that? cheers guys!

HELL YEAH!!!!!! of course thats what i expect you to do! haha well, i dropped mine 40mm and put 16" wellers with 45 series tyres on it, so yeah man!!! haha, i want it lower yet with 2 degrees of negative on the front! thats a pretty beefy offset on them as well i noticed, does look proper good mate -
Let's see who has the coolest EA71!
backinbrat replied to rat fink's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
now i know that is also one of the coolest sounding EA71's out there as well dual pipes, side exit and a single cherry bomb in each i cant find the vid, but it sounds spot on! -
so, has anyone else had this? its been the case on two of my trucks, the old field basher used to do it, and so does my road one, the torsion bar makes THE most annoying knocking sound over most bumps, im pretty sure it is this, is it somin else otherwise let me know what ya think people!

they look rood! na man, screw it, get some 45 or 50 series on there, and drop it, that'll look the F**KING DOGS looking forward to seeing it lifted as well, they are spot on imo them wheels, nice one -
ah yes, very nice, good work man, i admire your skills, nice clean parts, love it! i am thinking of doing the same with mine, but have you had any trouble with skimming the heads? i.e valve timing and all that, as i only get one chance with mine if i do it, theres no go out and get some more! i am going to rebuilding mine soon when the funds come together, ive got a power cam, dualport heads and all that, which i want to transfer over, and ive got a pair of 40 IDF webbers on there way as well very soon as well as wanting to use the 12.5:1 compression pistons avalible from ramengines, what do you reakon power wise and torque yours is now good for, 130hp? 160lbs? im aiming for around 170 hp and whatever torque that produes with it, should be fun, especially in RWD! hahaha

(Twin)Turbocharging an EA81
backinbrat replied to Twitch de la Brat's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
so, the compression on a EA81 motor, well it might be low enough, put some washers under your head gasket carb wise, well, what uses carb and turbo from the factory? would i be right in saying renualt 5 turbo? ok, it would be jetted up for a 1.4, but 2 of them, and geting the 2 turbos, hmmm, maybe, they might be small enough, just a thought... good luck man, go nuts! -
wow, this thing looks rood man! keep the pics coming!
-
hmmm, i think i will get them harnesses in sooner than i first thought, my steering wheel sits closer than that, cause its a deep dish sparco, and its on a diff hub, and its a bit more solid oh well, it done alot better than i thought! looks pretty solid almost! glad to see im not driving a complete death trap then!

pressure regulator, thats how i got round it in theory im running half 1 PSI, 1 at tops good point why would you not just rig up a pump? lol -
just lit up my subaru

relay mod? -
ar yeah, that looks shweeeeeeet, have them with black centres or somin, would look proper good
-
mate, thats pretty impressive, yeah, mine was never above 27 with the standard setup, the cherry bomb made we worse, followed by the K&N, then much past 25 wasnt seeable, lets face it, i loved the noise too much
-
oh yeah, i remember now, i had problems with fuel pump on 2 of mine, i dont know if its the wiring that does it or its the actual pump, but i replaced the wiring and pump, the only thing is they both just went, no warning what i went for is a Facet fuel solid state pump, just get the one rated mid range sorta thing, cause im not entirely sure what the pressure is, (dont matter to me, cause im running twin mikunis now, and have a seperate pressure regger) avaliable worldwide, im not sure where you could get them where you are, im in another country and not that expensive the pump on the trucks are located near the tank kinda up at the front of the bed, underneath, it shouldnt be that hard to find, but the solid state ones like to be near the tank, and pre filtered cleaning out the carb aint that bad, 4 bolts and a couple of hoses to get it off, otherwise whack a load of carb cleaner through the fuel feed after taking the hose off, (basically dont run it off it, not good ) and just blow down it

rule of thumb for cutting springs?
backinbrat replied to hatchsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
yeah, the 4WD ones i imagine will be stiffer than 2WD and the turbo ones stiffer than 4WD's, its just the spring rate is up alot more a guess, and the wear of softer springs is more visable, just cut a ring off, and im sure that'll have you sorted, or cut loads off i wanna see me some lowerage! -
well, u need 3 things obviously, fuel/air, compression, spark do what you say you are gonna do and -check earths -check your plug leads -check feed to the carb -clean the carb out if it keeps occuring (jets and stuff) -check plugs -check fuel pressure -take off air filter to make sure your getting enough if not any of that, then i need to think abit more, im supposed to be doing college work really

this looks proper rood, well done got any more pics of it, general pics, and engine and a spec list? looks proper interesting, i like to see peoples ideas!

backinbrat replied to hatchsub's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
with the 4WD springs, it dropped mine about 35-40 mm, just make sure the spring seats line up on the caps, and that there are no sharpedges, and she'll be alright, and yeah, its quite a bit stiffer! if you running standard wheels and tyres, it will ride with a bit of firmness, but if you have lows on like mine, it gets really harsh, i does feel alot more firm! and those potholes, u cringe alot more! -
just cut springs, move torsion bars and shave bumpstops then you'll be as low as u like
-
yup, sorry, dont mean to make you all drool, but i thought i need to share it yeah...........ROOOOOOOOOOOOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol, i know its not for some, but i thought this was proper dead cool, think some inspiration may be taken from this for mine
