  1. if it's mainly sandy and sand running the wider is better. gives you more float. not to mention in soft sand you really need to air down to like 10 psi or so. A/T tires are best for sand running, mainly because they don't dig as much and you stay afloat. if you have dunes around i'd recommend around a 26" tall tire or smaller. just for the fact i know the 27.5" tires i have take to much hp and also a lot more stress on struts and parts. if your front end leaves the ground. just my 2 cents.
  2. i want to cause i'm going to be running a welder, winch, kc lights, dual battery's and a few other mods that use more amps.
  3. with the loyale 5 speed it's about a total of 22:1 final crawl ratio. with the stock ea81 4speed d/r it's about a 20:1 crawl ratio. i'm not sure if jerry is still making those kits. more than likely there will be spline issues. cause even on the ea82 turbos. you have to swap front shafts to put the d/r in.
  4. overkiller i feel your pain i live in yuma, az. when i arrived here in my car it was 110 degrees. on the freeway it ran really warm. i installed a subaru aux fan. so i have a dual setup.i'm also gonna be going with a hood scoop like QMan's. to help get the heat out better. cause on the freeway it runs really warm. what kind of mods are you doing to your car, mesa is only a few hours away. if your makin her to go wheel i'll gladly go with you. when i get my car back i'm planning on running up to florence jct area to try some trails. and also try to make a run with the az backcountry 4wd club. so if you want to ride with me give me a call. or if you want to hang around sometime. give me a call. ph# 4253593927
  5. little roo has been driven on many long trips. a few into montana and back down into idaho to the clearwater national forest. the longest and most strenuous was the trip from washington to yuma,az. that sucker with the trailer and car loaded past the windows. it wieghed around 4200lbs. the trailer was over a thousand pounds!! that was fun. little roo didn't have any problems but the trailer bearings went to hell!! luckily they broke just before i got to mudrat's and i didn't notice them till i was there. almost lost my wheel on the trailer!!
  6. basically the car is being put on a small subframe. the engine goes to the tranny, rear shaft of the tranny goes to a nissan tcase. another rear diff is stuffed under the tranny into the crossmember. and a driveline is ran to the front and back.so the front of transaxle is rendered usless. the car becomes rear wheeldrive. with 2 4hi and 2 4lo.
  7. definitions: body lift: lifts the body off of the frame, engine, tranny. suspension lift: lifts the body and frame off of the axle assemblies. retaining the engine in the same spot in the frame. a low down of the lift. you are taking the car body. you are putting it on a frame. the engine retains it's normal position in the body. you are lifting the body and frame away from the axle assemblies. the front crossmember has a diff put in it. therefore your tranny is no longer the front diff. so your crossmember now is a front axle assembly. and your rear axle assembly is placed away from the frame and body. therefore it is a suspension lift. it may be all steel and no new springs. but in all principles it's an ifs suspension lift. it may not be a standard solid axle lift but it is a ifs suspension lift. the strut mounts are also now on the frame. along with the rear coil-overs. and an ea82 struts and coilovers are being used. the fullsize chevy truck my brother has. the lifts are very similar to what is being done right now to my car. just where i stand in my logic of a subframed lift.
  8. haven't decided if i'm going to do this but. i have been contemplating, removing the strut rod, and custom fabricating a rod with 2 rod ends to almost completely elimate all the binding. haven't decided wether to try it or not.
  9. i'm glad it all went well. definately can't wait till i can see those pics of my car!! little roo had to have been in heaven. snow all around her instead of sand. :boohoo: wish i could have joined her. were those pics digi or 35mm?? probably why the throttle went. she was in heaven and she thought you were bringing her back to hell, when you left the snow.
  10. bluesoob, will you be trail riding in your car or in one of ours. remeber part of it is logging road and part is actual trail.
  11. well i was just wondering. it didn't really make a differance to me. i was just wondering what you'd consider it. because it has lost it's body lift properties. suspension travel is what i'm looking at next.
  12. well i was just figuring. the main reason our lifts are considered body lifts is because the engine and tranny drop down with the suspension. cause if you look at ifs suspension lifts they use block systems to do the suspension lift on the ifs section. so being the fact that once the subframe is in and since everything is being sucked up to the original positions. these lifts should be considered suspension lifts. cause i know that's what i'm considering them. because 1 there is a frame now and the tranny and engine are in the original spots. so your just dropping the new front axle assembly and the rear axle assembly. also cause torsion bars will be for back up only and ea82 springs will be holding most of the weight. it may not be a gain in suspension travel. but that don't matter towards being considered a suspension lift. i've seen jeep lift kits that actually make you lose suspension travel. My verdict is they should and are considered suspension lifts! do to the way they are designed versus the older style lifts!
  13. need some good styles of flares what models are you guys using. since my tires are gonna be stickin' out a ways i'll need some flares if i move to washington, or visit for awhile.
  14. i've always pulled the motor. less time for me, and less hassle, plus you have a loot more room to work on the clutch. a lot less awkward angles too. but mine also has most of the emissions removed. even with emssions hose i still pulled he engine.
  15. hey email me all the picks you have of little roo and summer. i want to put them on my web page. i don't know what i'd do w/out that gps now. it's helped me out of alot of places i shouldn't have been. ie making trails and getting stuck in a valley in the middle of nowhere. found the nearest roads and trails i've previously marked. and forged my way through hell till i wass in a place i could get out. oh i love the looks! i get them everywhere. even in washington most of the residents still haven't seen one. i know they are an infestatiion up there. but still very few lifted. that look of what the f***, as they almost hit someone. Here it's funny. cause most of them run the dunes only. so they have their hopped up jeeps and such reving the engine, like i'll have a chance in hell to beat them. most of them don't even realize alll the oppertunity for trails in the rocky hills here. they are all worried about my body damage too. are you gonna fix it so it looks nice. no!! every dent is one less place that i'll hit next time. i'm not an avid duner, my car is a trail rig, not a hammer down rig. trust me that's when stuff breaks. been there, done that. i try not to do it often.
  16. trying to gank my tires!! i'll sell them to you... they are up for sell the end of this month. deer steaks that sounds really good. god how much i miss wild meat. we're supposed to go dove hunting this weekend. i'm an extreme amature at hunting though, cause no one else has brought me hunting. before here. i think i scared everything away. :-\ what was the spare disty for?? did it break?? so you approve of little roo in her current state? it's quite the little car. I like it. :madder: wait till it gets done!! :madder:
  17. an lsd resist slipping due to the friction plate and springs. but still will slip when enough torque is appled. less stress on the drivetrain and doesn't give you quite as bad of steering complications as a locked diff in the front. that's why jeeps and those style rigs are now using selectable lockers. because you can undesignate the locker and it's a open diff and you can turn tighter. lsd'd don't just slip they do resist it that's why they are better than an open diff.
  18. they are all idiots here at the parts counter. they start speaking to me in spanish, i have to specify english, no habla espano. or something like that. then they try to tell me the part that they list is the right part. they also look at me dumbfounded cause every time i come in and during the same order, the year of the car keeps changing. "is this for the same car", yes it's a hybrid subaru. :madder: look out the window and tell me if that looks stock!! rx sounds like a good idea.
  19. me, pick me, pick me. i'm game!! got the ski rack on top and plenty of snow traction!!
  20. sean, you can go ahead and call me. i work from 5pm to 3am. sunday night through thursday night.
  21. basically lsd's are frictioned opendiffs under spring pressure. that's how it still slips. either using a cone style or there's another style that most lsd's use on all cars. lsd's are in no way a hard locker, they still slip.
  22. i know it's sad but like for the last few weeks i've been so stoked to get my car back and it hadn't left yet. i know i'll be happy!! cause i've seen john's work and it's awesome. not to mention have a very high respect for him too. i've been trying to get lower gearing for years in that car. well let's see since the first day i lifted it. not to mention the larger clutch will be swweeettttt. i'm like not able to sleep, i was dreaming subaru's last night! and of a reiter pit run through the mud and snow!! definately need to see snow. cause there aint' nothin but sand and rock here.
  23. hey glad it worked out!! i hope i was of some help. give me a call or email me. 4253593927 sorry i've missed your i'm's ive been out and about. getting my car ready for the trip to oregon. semper fi, Lcpl cook, jared
  24. i had a 2wd disty for awhile. not very noticable improvment. slight but not very reconizable. then i hooked a higher energy coil up and it burned up the electronics on the disty.
