  1. Thats a good question... A couple years ago a mechanic friend of mine called me and he needed 1 injector for a 91 auto leg. All I had was manual inj. He just wanted one and would not buy the whole setup from me. I told him that they would work but like you he would have to swap some other stuff over like you did. He did not want to mess with it and ended up getting a new one for big $. His customer was not happy about the bill, but hey.... I honestly don't think you'll run into problems and honestly I can't understand why they used 2 different kinds...
  2. Is this a turbo car? If so, you'll probably do more harm than good. Stock turbo airboxes are more than good enough for over 300 whp. Just get a good drop in filter and done. If it's an NA car then go for it. You do have to reatin the maf sensor.
  3. Some work on the front frame. Also some death metal artistry that will be added throughout. My theme is Godzllia so I figured diamond for reptile like feel. The front death catchers will make diamonds with the rear... All of the metal so far is 1/4 wall so strength and stiffness should be good. I still have tons of gusseting and fishplates on all of the 90 degree planes but it's a start. Just fyi the motor mounts will be right on top of the two long front rails... It will b easier to see once I get more done.
  4. As far as oil goes, you could fill the milky way with all of the opinions you'll get. If you want to know the truth.... http://www.blackstone-labs.com/ This will give you an idea about what is best for your motor.
  5. Pawn shops around here are ripoffs. They tend to underbuy and overcharge. I have had tons better luck with craigslist and garage/yard sales. I also look for auctions. Tools can be bought in lots or pallets a lot of the time.
  6. Turbo. If you can get a 5spd too thats the best(if its avaliable, not sure). If you maintain it properly and don't mod it you'll get the life you need out of it. Maintainence on a turbo subie is relativly pricey, just be prepared. Do the work you can yourself. Just for some info, my 02' wrx wagon 5spd has 201,xxx on it and still going strong. It's all stock except for an sti cat back that I put on a year or so ago when the stock one rusted off.
  7. I would try the subaru only stop leak first. DO NOT USE BARS LEAKS! Nasty stuff, does a number on every motor I have ever seen it used in. Anyway, a black light and some die would help as well. It does sound like the heater core though.
  8. ^^^ i don't agree with that. $1200 for an ej25 with no idea of mileage? No way. I got a 40k 02' wrx motor, with all accessories, crossmember, ecu, and wiring harness for $1800 shipped to me from somwhere in idaho. This was 2 years ago... So unless the market has gone up I'd say 1200 is not a good deal.
  9. ^Yup. I proved that many o' times in my subie. I outwheeled very capable jeeps that just had scared/bad drivers. Off road drivng takes practice, picking lines is a learned thing. I'm just saying that most jeep people have rigs that will do waaaayyy more than the driver can handle. Subie people are nuts and drive off road like they have nothing to loose. When I had the Tj I went to the localish OR park about once a month. Very often there were guys there with tons better rigs than mine that would watch in amazement but not even try the stuff I was doing. I didn't get it. Other than the fact that they were scared to bend, break, scratch something because they had a $20k+ Jeep and I had a $2k pos.
  10. They will be almost parallel I'm guessing. I am shooting for about 3 degrees back angle on my motor/trans. Until I get the chassis rails made I am not 100% sure what the tube sections will be mounted like. The frame rails will be right underneath the motor. It's a tight area with the oil pan, starter, motor mounts and exhaust. Most likley the exhaust will exit thru custom headers running on the outside of the frame by the motor above the top A arm and the tucking under somwhere to get in between the fram rails to go into what ever exhaust config i figure out. But you are right, nice, simple, and strong. I also made some more descions on drivetrain. I will be running a np203/205 doubler twin sticked. 4:1 low with 4:56 gears should be noice!
  11. That could have been driver issues more than the vehicle itself. The stock tj I had had AT tires on it. I would see other wranglers with better tires get stuck following me. I just equated that to different driving styles
  12. Is this possible? We are actually comparing jeeps to subarus? I love subies, they are super capable. BUT.... I have never seen a STOCK subie do what a stock jeep wrangler can do.
  13. I made some room for my creation. New trans tunnel anyone? LOL! Motor mounts are built. I also got my diff, 8.8 ford irs, 3.08 gear ratio for now, 4.56 ring and pinion on the way. So friday I am gonna start on the front frame rails and hopefully get the motor setting on it's own.
  14. I used valvoline 5w/30 high mileage with a quart of lucas oil stabilizer on my 90 legacy with high miles. Worked great. I had smoking sometimes before and after no more smoke. Plus I did pick up a bit of mileage and seemed to have more oomph. Makes for a pricey oil change but.... I just used NAPA filters.
  15. If the CEL has been on I'd bet there are codes. You might need to hook it up to a better scan unit. A standard OBD2 reader cannot read set codes that do not keep the CEL lit. Like I said an otc, or snapon unit. Or just bite the bullet for a diag at the dealer or other repuatble shop. I'd bet it's something simple.
  16. I flipped one of those a few years ago. It had 260k miles on it then. I still see it driving around here and there. Not terrible vehicles IMHO.
  17. Distibutors don't fail that often. I would check the cap and rotor first. The coil can still fail even though it looks good. Also check the wires feeding the coil and maybe look for a blown fuse...
  18. My car will never see the road. Thats why i'm using lexan. I'm running a windshild just to keep the rain or mud out of my face when offroading.
  19. Nice work! The D/r makes the ej cars. Makes me miss my lifted d/r 90' legacy. I might have to get another one. Keep up the good work.
  20. ^^True, most of them I see are completely rotted most of the time. Along with everything else Gotta love the rust belt.
  21. I've replaced hundreds, (maybe thousands) that people have reused and leak. Thats why I just use new. It's a small expense and usually not worth the hassle if the old ones leak. I have a huge assortment of them.
  22. Heating them like that is called annealing. It can work but sometimes it's better to just get new.
  23. Thats another good reason to use polycarb. It does not chip break like plexi
