  1. I agree with the ones saying heater core, I had to replace mine a few months back and I had the same problems, coolant disapearing and windows foging up. Their is a pump you can use on the radiator to see if the cooling system is holding pressure.
  2. I still think most of you worry way to much on this tire issue, if I had to find a barber shop to get a shave for my tires, I would be looking for a different car to drive. Put the one with the most tread on the front, it wears faster it will soon match. If the car tears up then you can get a car that you can use. My Subaru is high mileage and the tires I have now are about half wore out but if ones blows tomorrow Iam buying a new tire, just one.
  3. I agree with you I rotate my tires, front and back and left and right and have not had any trouble. If you have a flat on the right front and then fix it and put it in the spare compartment and next have a flat on the left side and put the spare on it is going the other direction. I even have the trustly 39.00 dollar manuel tire changer from Harbor Freight and flip the tire if the inside starts to get chewed from going on and off of the pavement so much.
  4. Why worry so much about putting a tire on your car when you need it? If I need a tire and the other three are only half worn out I put it on. I have 302,000 miles of postal del on this car. It is a 1997 2.2 legacy wagon. In the early 90's Subaru and the Rural Carrier Association worked out a deal to sell letter carriers Subaru at a really low price so their is a lot of these in our craft, alot of them are high mileage like mine. I have not heard of any carriers having the kind of problems that is talked about here. We ruin tires all the time in our line of work but we dont buy a new set every time we run over something. If you get medicine from the Dr. and read all of the bad things that can happen in the side affects than you would not ever take medicine. I joined this board about three years ago had I not been replacing my tires one at a time if needed for over 200,000 miles at the time I would been so scared by this I would have bought a new set every time I ruined one. Their is bigger things to worry about then putting a tire on your car when you need it. However go ahead because sure enough if you take my advice you will ruin something and then I would feel bad but for me Iam not buying a new set when one tire goes bad.
  5. What is so good about the brembros rotors? If you buy the top of line rotor from Auto Zone you can get it for about half the price of the brembros, they may be made by the same company that makes the brembros. The really cheap rotor that Auto Zone sells is not a good buy, I tried them one time and dont want them again.
  6. I think a lot of the problems I have on the right side is the conditions it is being used under. You are right about the brakes they do need to be changed in sets.
  7. I have not had trouble with one side of brakes wearing out before the other, sometimes the inner or outer pad will be a little more worn. On the shoes on the back one of the shoes on each side wears more than the other. When I change them I keep the best and use them the next time it happens. And yes I know you are not suppose to do this. The right front wheel bearing goes really fast I got one out right now. The right front control arm also wears out fast, I am on my thrid one.
  8. You need to get a new pully and belt and put it back together then you can try and start it or at least check the compression. I lost a 1997 2.2 engine when the idle pully came apart, the valves and piston collided. Hopefully you will have better luck.
  9. Yes you are right, that is what Subaru says. I have put over 300,000 miles on mine while putting out mail most of the time the right tires are wore more than the left but the biggest difference is the right side sets off of the pavement most places at least one in. drop from the left. They are many Subarus in this craft working under the same conditions and I have not heard of them having problems either. It is good that you do things by the book, as I try to do also, but I think this one is a little over done.
  10. Litha Subaru in Oregon is good, cheap, and fast. Their number is 1-866-717-2512, Rock auto is good also as mentioned in the post above. I have never heard anything bad about Jamie either. 1st Subaru parts is well liked here also but Litha prices are about the same as them, and they even sent me a Christmas card this year.
  11. I know what you mean, I heard it took around six hours to do a heater core and it took me a day and a half.
  12. Yes you can clear by unhooking battery, I take both cables off. about thirty min. is enough, some times it will clear by just taking the neg. cable loose but I have had to take both off on some codes.
  13. I vote mechanic error or part failure, if the axle was just put in last week.
  14. I agree with frag, looks like you need to jack it up some to take the bind off of it.
  15. I agree with gbhrps sound like the coil pact, my car had nearly the same symptoms and that was what was wrong with mine.
  16. Heater core? Hope not. I had rust on my seat bolts years before I had trouble with heater core.
  17. Be careful working with the window motors the spring inside can get you. My nephew works with these in his body shop and he said it is easy to get hurt by them.
  18. I can't answer your question, but welcome to the board.
  19. I have had mine off a few times but dont remember the details, but if you will unbolt the tank you should be able to raise it up where you can see how to take plug off. Be careful when you bolt tank back down the little hole will break easy.
  20. If yours is like my 97 the little strap is just off of the center of back seat, I reach under with my big hands and find mine without to much trouble.
  21. You said you used a air rachet, get you a real impact tool and use it, the one Wal Mart sells for around 78.00 dollars with the 1/2 in. drive should do it. You could probably rent one like it somewhere.
  22. If it dont get burned before then, Is it true that someone asked Jock Sherock, how many troops he needed to protect Paris and he replied he had no idea it has never been done before? ( just kidding) it only happens here when the Pistons win in basketball. By the way I did not use any lock tite on mine I just torqued them to the amount in the manuel.
