Holy Stereo Soup Batman
the only other problem is that aftermarket radios are too mlong to fit the dash, they sell adapter kits that extend the opening about 2 1/2 inches. if your shifter is sloppy it may hit the volume button.. i got all my adapters at best buy. but they have to have a mobile eletronics department at the store

starter motor, auto / manual trans ?
i thaught i read somware that subaru had 2 different rpm starter motors, and that an automatic was different from a manual , my automatic trans 4x4 gl seems to crank over slowly, everything is is good working order, amp draw is normal, it cranks the same in 10 degree weather as it does in 40 degree weather, it just seems slower than normal ? could the previous owner hav replaced it with the wrong one ?

Advice on buying an ’85 Subaru GL Sedan
oh i forgot if its a auto 4x4 try to go on a dirt road. wile driving straight tru accelerating in 4 wheel drive from a start, than shift back into 2 wheel drive, you should notice a difference, this is to make sure it shifts in and out of 4 wheel drive, also make sure that it has all the same size tires on it. different size tires are hard on the rear clutch pack of the transmission.. i know im rambling... good luck

Advice on buying an ’85 Subaru GL Sedan
An automatic transmission subaru runs at a higher rpm, at 55 mph. (my auto subie runs at 4000 rpm at 55mph) its quite noisy and you can feel more vibration. i also had a catotrosphic transmission falure at just 150,000 miles, I kind of like it for around town use, but its a little uncomfortable for hiway use, i feel as if im pushing it too hard. it is a little slower on excelleration too. i find it to be an excellent city /commuter car, great for traffic james. less work bending the ole knee. i guess it all depends on the price and what you plan on doing with it. even an automatic trans subie is better than no subie

- found some 13 inch snow tires
sweet, i just got a set of "mastercraft" "Glacier Grip 2" for my stock loyale. im impressed with the performance in the dirt, it hasnt snowed yet :-\ . i got them from my local independent tire dealer, in 175 70 13. they were only $46 each, with tax just over $200 mounted balanced , has anyone had them in snow yet. they sure look gnarley. i think the tire rack has them too.- better alternator?
i put a 70 amp gm alt on my gl. i can buy a compleat rebuind kit including a stator winding , all bearings reg, diode trio, etc for 25 bucks on ebay, the hatachi diode asy. cost me 30 bucks, plus the gm alt is good for 70 amps, you can buy a kit to convert it to 90 amps. it was a very easy conversion- Alternator gurus.
anyone have a cheaper source for the rectifier- The New Baby Is Home!New Pics added page 4
