ckecking heads for head gasket knowledge
archemitis replied to Svengouli7's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i would say make the gasket fit the stock oring. or just use what the aftermarket gasket gave you. i bet they would both seal up fine. head bolts should only have a thin coating of oil on them, when you put them on. i mean thin. most guys blow the holes out with compressed air to assure the bolt holes arent full of oil, to throw off the torque measurements. hope that helps, some -
http://www.jodel.com/subaru2.htm this is some good stuff, but scroll down to the pic of the ea81. ug! where is his thermostat housing? does the water no longer need to go from head to head, via the intake manifold? does it just go through the block? as usual im confused

what is everybody boosting to? i guess 14 is about all the computer and fuel system can handle, stock... but what about the guys with haltechs? and what about bigger turbos? a legacy turbo bolts right on, save the down pipe. anyone hit 20lbs? if a 2.0 eclipse can put out over three hundred hp on a stock lower end, i wanna hear about a 250hp 1.8ea82:banana:

if you are thinking about intercooler... you better plumb in a blow off or recirculation valve. it will help alot too
-
it fits. just go for it. theres pleanty of info already on here. check the posts. svx in a hatch will cover some basic info. i bet you would need a 1.8 xt crossmember.

SVX engine in an EA81 hatch...?
archemitis replied to JonOfScio's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
i agree. the 2.2 may take me all of four months to complet... or one of those aborted missions after a year. the adapter seems like a good route, but then you have a weaker tranny compared to the ej series. and i think the clutch holds less power too, because the adapter includes a ea82 flywheel. i know my ea81 clutch couldnt handle 130hp. -

wuss:D i say that with the most respect... go for the gold. do an ej:headbang: -
its gotta be rotors then, i changed ball joints, front axles. tried different wagon wheels. looks like new brakes tomorrow. or i'll just get used to it:clap:

that would pop wheelies:banana: -
ok good, i wasnt sure if it was possible to vibrate the wheel while not braking. thanks alot what are the symptroms of a bad bearing?
-
my car vibrates when i hit the brakes, but it vibrates when its going down the road too. im wondering if its a rotor or a bearing. would a bearing vibrate worse when you hit the brakes, or what? 87 hatch.

id say the ej swap is a better plan. there are tons of motors around easy to find, and the junkyards are full of wiring harnesses and trannies and all that stuff. it fits great, several people have done it. they only bolt up to tranny with adapters, but the adapter costs as much as a good used ej transmission! 150 na hp in a hatch, just imagine... im gonna turbo mine though:headbang:
