So I picked up this '87 Hilux a week ago, 5spd D/R 4WD, 2.4 22R carb'ed motor. 189,000. Yeah this things a real "Farm House" but I'm gonna work with it. Updates to come....

Matt, I have everything packed in the car. The only stuff I might bring down another time would be both spare hoods (Ones NOS) and the whole Rad support. I also have to get the driverside fender liner down from the rafters, but the Loyale is in my way. Perhaps I will drive these parts down with the "new" yota As for game plan, I get off work by 3pm tomorrow, you said you'd be home around 5:30pm, so I just have to see when Jason wants to roll down there and we're good. Its not gonna be earlier than 5:30, but its also not gonna be super late, before 7pm I presume. I will talk to dude tomorrow and shoot you a text with the ETA. BTW, I'm also giving you the 1983 FSM and a bunch of other stuff!

The 5spd is still a 3.900 right? The GL has 3.900 gears right now.

The GL is going to its new owner next saturday! I'll be bringing back a surprise though....!!

My girl likes Subarus, I've got her to start spotting them out in parking lots and on the road Hehe. She likes the Loyale and the big old Landcruiser, but the GL is a little too cramped. Hell, she even likes Trashwagon10. Which is why I want to get that back for a DD. I'm just burned out on cutting and welding on this thing, and just don't have the effort for it anymore (Mainly cause I'm working two jobs now, and its winter lol) Best that it goes to someone else who would do it right!

Hmm. Its possible, maybe it was cracked when I bought it, and it just finally gave? I dunno how the tranny was treated before I got it. I don't think I could have been too rough with it when trying to get it out of 4th before getting jammed in 3rd. Is there anyway to tell anything without pulling the motor/trans? I don't have the time to do this anymore nor do want to do it in 20* deg weather. But I do need this thing gone sometime.

So I looked at the transmission today, I see a cylindrical shaped shaft that slides in and out of the trans (This is connected to the stick shift) What is this? And why is it wet looking? Is this normal. I am guessing it needs lube to slide in and out, just wondering if this IS correct. I tried tapping on it and it jiggles, but nothing else. I look at the rest of the shift linkage and everything looks ok. I still can't get the trans out of 3rd.

I agree with the bumper. If it was more aggressive and square, it would fit much better, looks like a duck

Shifter bushings are firm, but right now, the shifter has slop in it? But its in 3rd, but stick doesn't look quite right. I can't for the life of me get it to do ANYTHING, I've been using a lot of movement and force and nothing happens. If I remove the center console, can I get to anything on top of the tranny? I forgot what it looks like. What options do I have to fix this so I can sell it?

Driving the GL for one last time tonight, and was driving fine all night, typical syncro grind going into 3rd once and a while. But other than that, normal. But I came to a complete stop while still in 4th (My mistake) I almost couldn't get it out of forth, but I managed to pop it into 3rd, or what seems to be 3rd. The RPMs reflect 3 gear, but the shifter doesn't feel right...? And I can not move it into any other gear, I tried popping it into another gear while moving and stopped, and I can NOT get it to do anything. I had to slip the SH*t out of the clutch from a dead stop just to get up to speed again so I could make it to a parking lot. I pulled it home with another vehicle, but now what do I do? What would cause this? I've had this issue in the past, but I was always able to get it into another gear, This time, eh, not so lucky. I am running Synthetic gear oil in it (Lucus) but this should not be the issue. Ideas anyone?

No, but a piece of 1x1 square tubing could fix that. Cut the link in half, drop each end into the piece of tubing and lay a bead of weld and voila! Done This is what I'm gonna have to do when I get to that point. -Tom
