My '83 GL: The Ski Wagon
I'm not worried about it right now, I need money for a carb and sh*t. Insolation is the least of my issues. lol Finish up the bondo, and painted the driver side rocker today, No need to take these doors off again! Did the Helicoil for the intake bolt, took all of 15min just taking my time and doing it perfect. Was really easy! I was shocked.

Not in MM. I can measure them with a tape measure, but then I have to convert that to MM. Perhaps Fastenal will have more for Metric Stainless (In-stock)

My '83 GL: The Ski Wagon
How long are the 4 longest intake bolts in MM? I want to say JesZek used 80mm long bolts in his EA82 intake, but does this also apply to the EA81? Also, what is the MM length of the 2 shortest intake bolts? I am looking at ebay, and need to know before I order. http://www.ebay.com/itm/Stainless-Steel-Metric-Hex-Bolts-M8-x-1-25-x-60-Qty-5-/251069791694?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3a74ecfdce#ht_680wt_702

My '83 GL: The Ski Wagon
Helicoil finished. That was almost too easy, Took me only 15min to drill it, tap it and install the coil (Taking my time as to not make mistakes) Everything threads in, and I will see how it torques down once I get some Stainless M8x1.25 x80

1984 GL Wagon Fwd Build
Go with Strong Arm brand, they push the gate up and hold it up. I have them on my EA82.

My '83 GL: The Ski Wagon
I want some flipping Sound deadener, right phucking now...! :-p I dunno why it costs so much, OMG. Fiberglass rafter insulation is cheaper and you get more of it! How does that stuff take to the 180* heat inside a car? Anyway, Finally! NO MORE WELDING! I am done! I was getting very tired of welding. I started with some body filler on the ground down welds, gotta get some sand paper and finish up, then shoot it with some white paint for the time being. Some body filler. M8x1.25 Helicoil kit. Now I need to by a drill bit 21/32 or whatever it said on the package.

What Have You Done to your Soobie lately? (Please post in here and keep it going)
If not less. Go find a running $500 Legacy or Impreza that has a Duel-Port EJ22 (OBD-I or OBD-II your choice, 1995 EJ22 will be Duel-Port and OBD-II) Remove the engine wiring harness, cut it down your self using one of the Write-ups, or send it to somebody who does it. Buy an SJR Bellhousing adaptor ($250 iirc) make your custom pitch stopper, use your stock radiator and rig up duel electric fans, make some custom rad hoses, and the other little items, and you'll have your EJ swap. Doesn't cost all that much, once you find a decent doner car.

Why don't you just spend $1,000 on an 1990-'95 EJ22 swap. Then spend another $1,000 to buy a cheap Legacy/Impreza to drive until you finish the EA82. You should be able to find more then a gaggle of $500 Subarus out your way. My Loyale was a $500 car 6 years ago, look at it today

Weber....Yes or No?
Perhaps you could post links on where to get the individual parts.

Thank you for posting that link! The 4-Runner front struts are stronger then the Subaru ones. Springs are probably gonna be new Accord springs. They are about 9" compressed length vs the 8" compressed length of the stock springs.

Weber....Yes or No?
You also need to buy throttle linkage bracket, I don't think that comes with the carb, every site I see, all you get is the carb. Plus, Shawn mentioned, there is a mixup by just ordering the adaptor plate. You don't get the correct one. This is slowly being resolved so I heard. Also, you are not including shipping prices for these items, plus hunting them down, I can't seem to find all the correct items on one site while doing a google search. And I hate ordering from numerous sites. When you get down to it, what is $65? if you are worried about $65 dollars, you shouldn't even worry your self with a weber swap, just keep running the stock crappy carb, and be happy with it.

You can, but they are probably weakened with age, hence the sagging. Swapping to different springs and 4-Runner front struts for the rear, will provide a heavier duty setup.

My '83 GL: The Ski Wagon
Bennie, Thank you very much! The work is something I guess you have to enjoy, this is my first go about with something this intensive, outstandingly, its fairly easy to do. I bet if this car was down by you, it would not have the ammout of rust as it did. Indeed I am planning to repaint the whole car factory porcelain white, and have the vinyls remade. You EA82 turned out great, you really dug into it was well. Wish I could turn over my car to work on it Cheers, -Tom

My '83 GL: The Ski Wagon
Awesome! Thats what I was hoping for. I never knew what Heli-coil was, up until a few months ago, it sure is a nice way to fix stuff. At least we'll see with my situation

My '83 GL: The Ski Wagon
I bought a M8x1.25 Heli-Coil kit at O-Really's today for $27. Comes with a Tap, The Coils and the coil insertion tool. My question is, once I chase the threads with the tap and in start screwing the Helicoil bit in, can I install two coil bits? Will the little tab on the bottom of the coil bend downward when I thread the actually bolt through? Cause they are kinda short, if I could use two, that would be awesome! Tips and tricks would be welcome

Weber....Yes or No?
Here is JesZeks weber swap write-up for the EA82. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=74206 Here is another thread with pictures (Or what used to be pictures) I will PM Subieman and see if he can edit the post with currant picture links. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=49931 Also, if you have any random questions about the swap, I know Shaun (1982gl4) recently did the Weber DGEV swap to his EA81 wagon. Cheers, -Tom

Weber....Yes or No?
I almost forgot to get you some links to helpful threads. Here is one that has a few tid-bits in it that might be helpful. http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=131997&highlight=Weber+swap I want to say JesZek (Loyale 2.7 Turbo) did a write-up about swapping to a weber, but his uses the EA82 motor as the reference. Still pretty similar. I will do a little more searching and post what else I find, here for ya! -Tom

Tuning your weber
1-1/2 turns out, its like a Lawn mower

My '92 Landcruiser: Safariwagon-II
Oh nice! Heavy springs might give a harsh ride with no added weight, so Slee to me when I ordered from them, but its a Truck, its supposed to ride hard Also, nice score with the Caster brackets! Thats the way to go IMO. 35x12" will fit, pretty much everyone runs 35s cause they fill it in very well and look proper on it. The 33s look so small on this thing, then you put the 33 next to a Subaru and its like OMFG! Half the door and fender would be gone to accommodate them I wish I went with 35s and 12 wide. The 10.5 wide just look a little odd, but probably handle better in winter. My trucked was like a tank, didn't slide much if at all. Stopping the ox was a different story at times. You have a good truck, I can't wait to see more of it!
