  1. not a bad idea. I am not sure how this will work for the location's calendar, but I am sure that we could do some sort of roving celebration in the Oregon campgrounds / trails. Has anyone done any research on Astoria to see what family activities are there? If not I can head that up, granted I will be only able to do it via the 'net and phone calls, so if someone local wants to do it that would be fine. BW
  2. WOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Just got the call for a permanent position that I was hoping to get. I am now working with the City of Los Angeles handling the Police Department workers' comp claims. BW
  3. No new progress. I am just gathering parts. I think I am going with the AWIC route and make it super stealth. I like what the guy in the above site did for wheels by re-drilling for 4X100. There are sure a lot more choices there and usually sportier than the 6X140 truck wheels. I will probably have a shop or someone who a lot more precise than me do the re-drilling b/c there are no reference bolts to use like in the 6X140 mod. I doubt there will be real progress for a few months.
  4. sorry I am an idiot. I ment to say that the EJ bell housing is shorter than the EA bell housing (not the flywheel) the 1/2 inch adapter fills that space and also allows for the tranny and engine's different bolt patterns to connect.
  5. It all stems from the fact that the EJ bell housing is 1/2 shorter than the EA flywheel. The EA input shaft is 1/2 longer and the flywheel will not connect with the starter gears. So physically it could work. with a 1/2 inch spacer/adapter plate. But then you would need to modify the starter to reach 1/2 inch deeper or change the starter ring 1/2 back. IMO changing things in the outer edge of a rotating item is bad mojo. Centrifical force is the greatest at the edge of the flywheel and it could get scary if things fail. It's a lot easier to just ream out/ovalize the flywheel bolts and use those. Take about 1 - 2 hours depending on what kind of tools you have and it you have a EJ flywheel/pressure plate to use as a template. BW
  6. Not going to be doing this project for a long time. I like the way my BRAT is running now and the EJ22t is slated to go into the RX. I might do this later on in life if I can either find a 1st gen BRAT or I the itch to do this to the EJ18 BRAT. BW
  7. I got the FXT struts front and back. I had to take a dremel and slot some of the mounting holes in the rear and then I used big fender washers to keep things intact. Have about 3k on them, no problems. Here is before and after
  8. Right on. Lighter weight = better mileage and it’s free. Ditch the rear diff, axles, diff hanger and drive shaft. Then take something to plug up the drive shaft output so you don’t lose gear oil. If you can get rid of glass, that will also lighten you up a lot. Gut the interior, Also get some 165 width tires and put maybe 40 psi or something like that into them. That should get down the rolling resistance. Ohh.. and a bajilliion stickers b/c then you will get 5 hp each.
  9. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NqmhME_qRU8&NR=1 Here is a legacy B5 commercial from Japan. Interesting thing is that the commercial appears to be shot in Los Angeles. It's at the 105-110 incterchange. The commercial is not shot in Japan b/c the cars are going the wrong way for Japan. BW
  10. Though I would chime in on this one as I have done the 5 lug on a BRAT. Mine is pretty involved b/c I used a EA82 crossmember to get the P/S. so I have the EA82 crossmember w/xt6 control arms. I had to use impreza FWD axles to get it work with the EA81 d/r 4 spd tranny. I also had to extend the control arms by an inch b/c the camber looked like this before I did it. If you can't make axle, extend the control arm and use Impreza FWD axles. You will also have to figure out how to get the three bolt tophat to work w/your BRAT's strut tower. I did everything with a lift so I made a spacer/adapter to get the struts to bolt in there. PM me if you need some input. BW
  11. So I took some pics of the EJ22T that I picked up this weekend and I noticed that where it was sitting in the bed of the BRAT was exactly where it needs to be to make it a midengine RWD BRAT. The engine was sitting in the jump seat frame and there was about 8 inches from the t-belts to the back of the cab. so if you cut out the back of the brat and make a subframe to hold the engine and tranny. You move the gas tank to the front to balance things out a bit. If you make a cage to protect the gas tank then you can make some custom suspension for the front. So this could either be a street BRAT or maybe a pre-runner.
  12. welcome. Nice to see that you have found your way here. Heard about your wagon from various soob circles. I have the EJ BRAT in L.A. Working on a long term EJ powered RX. Send me a PM and we can hook up. I am in Redondo Beach. BW (btw, your pm is full)
  13. I need some help with the power window circuit. I removed the coil b/c I was getting the engine bay ready for the EJ swap. I moved it onto the street b/c I needed the garage for my wife's car and the windows do not go up. I looked at the wiring diagrams and I noticed that the p/window circuit runs through the coil. Tried runing a hot wire to the coil connectors to get power to the circuit. popped a fuse. Tried to run a wire directly to the fuse box fuse #10. popped a fuse. Tried hooking up the coil again and no go. Fusible links are ok. all fuses replaced. What gives? BW
  14. If someone were to prep for a Baja event, I could help w/pit duties.
  15. someone should prep a car for the baja 250.
  16. Well.... I have to take a break from my daily dose... or maybe it's over-dose of USMB and subariffic stuff. I have been temping at my job for the last few months and my contact is about to run out. So I need to spend the time that I have to look for a new gig. I have a really good prospect I am waiting to hear from. Hopefully I will hear from them today or atleast by next week. Then it will be like a mini-vacation. here is my e-mail addy. b-ravo o-scar s-ierra w-hiskey a-lpha n-ovember 2001 (at) yahoo(dot)com for those with pending deals w/me. e-mail me and we will complete them. BW
  17. nice. BTW what make are the coilovers you using listed for. Did a quick e-bay search and did not find anything for imprezas or older soobs. BW
  18. I guess I could mount the TMIC as a FMIC. how does the routing go? Boosted air going into the IC and then into the throttle body. Once again probably too much work to get it to work. Might as well just cut a slit or mount a small low scoop.
  19. Haven't had a chance to work on it. One question I wanted to kick around. I have a WRX TMIC that I wanted to use but I don't really want to cut a hole in the hood for the scoop. Want it to be sleeper stock. So.... suggestions? Route air through hoses? I do plan to run a fan underneath the IC to help w/air flow. Maybe the combo the fan and ram air effect of ducts will get air going to the IC. Is that too much work for the end result?
  20. I am more on the camp of restify. hybrid word from "restore" and "modify". Basically keeping in the spirit of the original, but changing parts to improve performance or safety. It's a term that I heard a while ago in one of the offroad magazines. They had a old Scout and they were covering the restoration. But while they were at it, the put in better brakes and did not other things to it to make it better. My BRAT. It's a modified job. No more dash, no more heater/ac, cut fenders etc. The RX. It's gonna be a restify project. More powerful, reliable engine, but everything else is going to be as stock as possible. Well.. I still have to figure out what I am going to do about the TMIC. Don't really want to cut a hole in the hoog, but I have to figure out a way to get cool air to the IC.
  21. almost 99.99999% sure it will not work. different series of motors w/different casting and short blocks. besides you could probably pick up a cheap EJ22 for the same price as an overseas EA82t. Things like oil sensors or temp sensor might work, but if you are talking about head swaps and internals, I don't think so. BW
  22. see if they can do a replacement title and a transfer of ownership at the same time. You might also want to look into getting a "power of attorney" from the previous owner regarding the transaction. That way you don't have to go back and forth to get his signature. I use to work for a finance company and my job was to title vehicles all over the country. Give me a PM of you need help wording the POA. BW
  23. saw your pictures. How are you getting the diff to mount to the tranny? Looks like an interesting solution to having too much weight in front of the axles. You could probably further modify the rear diff and get rid of the snout and input shaft. RE: DMV. just make sure that it's under 1500 lbs and that in very piece conversation and on all of the documents you use the word "MOTORCYCLE". Or you could just use the title from the goldwing and register it as a goldwing. In CA, they don't require smog on motorcycles so you can do this w/o even having to go through the hassle of DMV papers for a "specially contructed vehicle" title. Your state might be the same. BW
  24. sorry I need to make a correction. I was mostly referring to the people in Malibu and and parts of San Diego that are being charred. Apologies for the mistake. The Malibu fire is the one that happened first and suck in my mind. BW
  25. RS25.com will give you more info on mix n matching ECU to engines. I think the key is to look at the ECU pinouts and determine if it will work. It's a good idea to get the info and set up a game plan. kick it around here and then move forward. take pictures while you go and most of all have fun. BW
