  1. Game on!! I just got back from Mykingcrab's place out in Seymour, he's working on putting new struts into ROXY and we salvaged a 'new' set of springs off his GL10-T parts wagon in the back yard. I'm working on cleaning up an EJ22 for in the Brat and I've got a few other Subie related projects kicking around at the moment also. Definately let me know and we'll get together
  2. Welcome mate! I'm another Springfield local... Definately keep an eye out for my '82 Brat and flag me down if you see me haulin rump roast around town!
  3. Yo 95, Welcome to the site!! I'm definately down with helping you out with some wrenching. Me and Mykingcrab are partners in crime when it comes to that type of thing!! If you do decide to go with that trans that Mykingcrab found then holler at me, I can get 'bout anything shipped to work without a problem!
  4. DANG!! You sound just like my wife!! Initial plan is to run the EJ22 as a N/A setup. Once that's running good on the Megasquirt I'm going to stick my TD04 on it. (don't worry, I'm aware of the open deck block that I have. I've got means at my disposal for dealing with that) The N/A legacy computer won't handle the level of tuning that I want out of this thing whereas with the Megasquirt it'll be a no-brainer. Also, the engine I got didn't have the ECU with it and prices to get an N/A ECU as well as a Turbo ECU meant that it was cheaper to go the MS route. Add to that the fact that I'm planning on doing some development work in the Megasquirt realm to hopefully make it more accessible to folks running the stock Subaru ignition system, the whole package makes a lot of sense.
  5. Do a search for local topper manufacturers and see if they're able to hook you up with something that will work... If you're not able to find something locally then try getting onto these guys, Sportsland Automotive Accessories 2039 Peck Hollow Rd. Rogersville, MO 65742 USA Tel: 417-753-2069 They're a local crew near where I live and can probable hook you up with the goods!
  6. I've just pulled the pin on a HUGE grenade of a project... EJ22 into my 82 Brat coupled with an RX turbo 5spd swap AND Megasquirt standalone ECU... Call me crazy but I'm stoked about this whole shebang!
  7. LOL... Mine's got me beat by 7 months...
  8. What are the specs on your Brat? Mine is an '82 DL and the sill plate calls out 175/70R13's
  9. I was running 185's on mine but the ORIGINAL size was 175 (check the plate inside the driver's door) Now running 205/60r14's
  10. I just sold the downpipe cat off my old '88 GL10-T wagon to a scrap dealer for $85.00!!
  11. Cosmolene? Could well be... Cosmo will melt off with heat... or you can use mineral spirits/paint thinner... Oven cleaner will also work if it is Cosmolene
  12. If you've already got the donor engine your garage in that regard it's cheaper than finding an EJ around here. I've been looking for quite a while and I finally found one at a price I was able to afford... Parts sourcing around here ain't like it is in the PNW by any stretch. Gotta make do with what we've got around. The fella in Honduras goes by "Loyale 2.7 Turbo" Name's Jezek and he's a great source of info!
  13. yeah, wound up winching it out with a Come-along... I don't think I EVER want to do that again!! LOL... Time for at least a $50 chain hoist from Harbor Freight I think!
  14. Maybe I'll spray it down so it's not dried anymore? LOL
  15. If you're suspecting exhaust then take a look at the Exhaust Manifold gaskets, and donut gasket... Doesn't sound like that from your description but it could be.
  16. As it stands right now I could put it in for not a whole lot more money. I've got bigger plans than just installing it though so I'll have to wait a bit. I believe S'ko is running an EJ18?? In his Brat. That's got a lift though, I'm not planning on lifting at all.
  17. Cheers, Sounds like the ol' tweezers are the best option then!
  18. LOL. Thanks Seahag, I've been pickin at it with a pair of hemostats but I can see all of it and I really want a quick fix! I'll have at it again over the weekend. Fortunately the mouse is gone now so there shouldn't be any new stuff showing up anytime soon!
  19. How about a bit of inspiration from the VW crowd?? http://www.durocco.com/story%20photos/page1.html Twin engined Scirocco... 16v up front, 16v in the back, shifters linked...
  20. How do I remove the vents that run across the dash in my '82 DL Brat? I can't see any screws holding them in place and I'm afraid I'll break the 26 year old plastic if I lever on it too hard. I had mice nesting in the vent tubes at some point and now whenever I switch on the fan all the bedding material blows up against the inside of the vent grille and blocks the airflow
  21. I hear ya on that! I know of 2 other guys around our area with the old Subies, both of them drive trucks so we hardly ever manage to get together to do stuff. I've got one of 2 2nd Gen Brats still on the road that I know of in our region and I've only seen 1 1st Gen. Trying to find motors like this is a PITA out here too, they just don't pop up like they do in CO or up in the PNW
