  1. I hit the @#%*&$% thing a month ago and it had been so long I'd completely forgotten about it took me 2 days to figure it out. I guess you can regain your virginity.
  2. I think that the ABS system has its own controller and wouldn't trigger the check engine light since the systems are diagnostically unrelated. I'm admitedly not as versed in the newer models and am still larning things like this. I had a chevy lumina that had a common ground for the AC, fan and some unrelated trouble light so periodically the light would go on and the fan and AC would fail to work. shut off the car, start it again- light was out everything worked. weirdest thing. had to take it to the dealer when it was doing it for them to believe me.
  3. thanks par. PITA to find under all the components, but it's the right engine. anyone seen anything on tuning the turbo?
  4. is there any way to tell what size an engine is? the car is a 2002 WRX and it is suposed to have a 2.0. the previous owner had a new engine put in when it died. I'm working out the various kinks. it is sluggish at low end, the turbo takes forever to kick in, and it occasionally gives a fule lean mix code. could it have ended up with a 2.5 from a later model and the ECU is not compensating well for the bigger engine? I think it just needs a lot more tweaking and the injectors cleaned ETC, but ...
  5. That's how I adjusted mine, turn the star untill it doesnt bind when the E-break is off but doesn't have to be pulled up through the roof to tighten, kind of annoying but what can you do?
  6. sweet! thanks a million! now I can start fixing the tricky stuff I couldn't look up
  7. anyone have a link to service manuals for 2002 WRX? I can't find any, thanks.
  8. I have ne of those if you still need it. looks like it has one crack in the small end that doesn't go past the clamp. I don't know if that will work in CA or if you can seal it on the inside with aluminum tape? let me know I'm planning to have a big garage clearing. mostly I hope people can cpme get things but if I can ship some smaller stuff and help out that's great too.
  9. anybody know what a set of the old Al 8 spokes from a brat are worth? I'm digging out the car port hoping to have a big sale in a week or so and found a set. I don't think I've ever seen any others before. http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg195/j2coe/alum/8001.jpg http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg195/j2coe/alum/8002.jpg
  10. if you find one in a scrap yard you can replace the blank on the passenger side and have it in both sides too since thet're symetrical. how's that for a fun trick?
  11. If you ever need the seats I have some someone sawed out. they are missing the middle handels and CO is a long way away
  12. you may also neded to removed the head rest and unscrew miscelaneous hardware that may be holding the fabric once the hog rings are off, but don't give up:grin:
  13. is there a filter in the tank? there is a small one in line at the fule pump that I have cleaned debris out of on several of my FI models including my XT6, it's actually pressed into the intake end of the pump. If you can drop the tank and clean it all the better could be nasty in there from what you said. restomotive makes a kit to clean and reseal fule tanks if you get that far.
  14. that's pretty classic bad alternator, have it tested first.
  15. I used bright green LED's so the trip computer matches the display on my digital dash fairly closely, just played around with resistors 240 to 680 ohms till I found a brightness I liked and soldered them right to the contacts inside the trip computer. you could use amber to match the older digital dash.
  16. I believe if you have them look up the one for the late 80s, 88 or so turbo wagon with auto trans that will give the replacement 2 row rad. any one else?
  17. should be on the back of the intake manifold. behind where the crossover comes from the turbo, in a recess.
  18. might get some more water in, but let the hose run and get inside and look for the trickle, basically what I did but make your own rain
  19. I love taking mine to the dealership. nothing more fun than buying a part and parking next to $15-25,000 cars. especially when yours cost $250 you can repair anything that goes wrong, and it's faster than 75% of the stuff on the lot if you want it to be. every one in the collection is fun. maybe she feels the guilt. feel the pride in what you've done for that car.
  20. had a car years ago non subaru, but it had a seam that didn't get prpoerly sealed in the fire wall at the factory and it would chanel water into the interior. took a while to figure out since it was painted over and factory sealed just not done right. had to pull out the carpet etc and look while it was raining to figure out where it was coming from. you could just watch water running past the seam with the rain coming down.
  21. possible, I just had the lower coolant hose to the turbo blow on my RX and they are a #*@%& to replace. You have to remove the turbo to get the hose out. like daeron said warm it up and look for the leak, steam, drip what ever you can see, but passenger side especially if it is at the far back of the engine check the turbo lines.
  22. I have a bunch of transmission diagrams I'll have to see if any are EA-81, I assume fromn output shaft it's 4WD are you talking about the transfercase at the back of the trans axel itself or the shaft housing at the back of that?
  23. that was my question since GCK lists 23 spline for automatic and 25 spline for standard on their web site. is it only the turbos that use the 25 spline. GCK doesn't list them that way.
