AT modulator Valve, what does it do?
Yep, I replaced one in a cougar about 10 yrs ago. Symptoms: Tranny was slipping and was late to kick into gear then all of a sudden....BAM (Emeril) there it was in gear. 5-10 minute job on that car. Boz

Water Pump choice???
Yep, something like this you would want to stick with OEM. Aftermarket/rebuilt just aren't near as reliable in most cases. And honestly, They aren't much cheaper. Pay the extra 10-15 bucks and get the peace of mind. Boz

400 hp xt6 tranny?

HELP, New to Sub's...random engine shutdown
I am gonna go out on a limb here. I am gonna vote for a fuel pump. I had the exact same problems when mine started going bad in my Mustang. It became progressively worse. Fuel pump heats up and then doesn't work. It was random at first. Once it died, You would have to wait a while then it would start right back up and once it got heated up ( a few miles/minutes) it would die again. Never hurts to change the fuel filters as well. Good luck, let us know how you make out, Boz

how hard would it be to???anyone tried??
A few years back, I brought up this idea because I cut the roof off of a parts BRAT and not one person wanted it. Well it turns out that Moosens had also cut a roof off and sold it to Chef Tim who had it fabricated into his hatch and it came out nice. Needless to say, I still have my BRAT roof already cut, it's sitting in my garage. It's still for sale. Meeky, If you want it email me at cmakar@hotmail.com Heck, Maybe I can send it back with Lostwater (Mark). He's from VA and is headed here to Philly area soon. Let me know ASAP so I can try to get ahold of him. Boz

Starts up then shuts down after 5 sec
Yeah, I would use gas because that is what goes in there and it is cheaper. Keep it running for a minute by feeding it to make sure there is not an air bubble or anything in the line. Tell whoever you have in the car to keep the throttle in the position so the rpm's are like 2500-3000, it will help "burp it" if that is the problem otherwise it will just help draw some gas through. If it still dies then it most likely is your carb. Something isn't right. Call them up to see if they will cover a local shop repair otherwise send it back and demand one that is correct. Like I said though, Ensure there is no vacuum leaks! Let us know, Boz BTW, Some people may question my methods but these are what has worked for me in the past, there are 50 million ways to skin a cat.

wont start
Just make sure the water didn't shoot up and knock a vacuum line off (I had that happen, killed me) but 99.99999999% of the time it is the disty cap. If you don't need to drive it for a while then pull the cap and let it air dry but if needed immediately, pull cap, wipe out, then from a half of an arm's length away, blow into the cap to dry it out some more. If you are too close then it won't do any good because your breathe has moisture in it. Boz

Starts up then shuts down after 5 sec
My vote definately goes for fuel delivery problem. Not sure but don't the wagons also have 2 filters? Just because the carb was rebuilt by a "pro" (ha ha ha) doesn't mean it's right. But judging by the symptoms, it definately sounds like it's starving. I'd rule out the electrical portion because it does start and run initially. Have someone sit in the car and start it. When it starts to die, pour a little gas down the carb and if it keeps running that's the best spot to start. Then, check fuel pressure at the carb. If it is good, then it is in the carb and I would take it off and send it back. (Call them first) Let me ask you this, When it starts, does it run like crap for the 5 seconds or is it normal? If it runs like crap, check your vacuum lines real good then check your choke. Let us know what you find so we can narrow this down. Boz

My noo soob....
1st off, Welcome to the absolute best message board in existance! Now, for the car. Is It a turbo? 4wd? Do you have pics? Don't know about the noise, It may be something loose under the car. It definately won't be the harmonic balancer because that would make the car vibrate like crazy. Does it feel different when it makes that noise? Is it stumbling, cutting out or dying? Need more info. Lifters/valves are somewhat common and shouldn't be too much of a problem for someone who is mechanically inclined and has the correct info. Good luck, waiting on the info. Boz

Yet another Rhino update!
It kinda reminds me of a small Hummer. I guess it's the shape of the body and position of the lights. Looks like you are having fun though.

has anyone tried a Weber 38mm DGES on an ea81?
And people on this board will tell you it's gonna be too much gas going to the engine. I also have dual carbs and was thinking of dual webers and they told me the same, However, I don't see why you couldn't just re-jet them. If VW's can run dual webers or delaretos (sp?) and they are about the same displacement then why can't we? To date, Not one person has answered that question any time I have asked it.

Rear Disk Brake conversion on 85 Brat
Rich, It's about damn time you showed up here. (For those that don't know, Rich bought my old gray BRAT and not a day has gone by that I haven't regretted selling it) BTW, It's an 86 BRAT unless you are talking about your old one. AND, I know where there is a disc brake setup off of an XT. One last thing regarding the swap, It is my understanding from others who have done the swap that the backing plate on a 2wd turbo differs from the backing plate on a 4wd turbo.

Gives you that warm fuzzy feeling, doesn't it? You guys are the best group of people that I never met, and same with the ones I did meet. My wife wonders why I am addicted to the board, It's not just about Subes. To bad they don't just herd us together and make us all live in the same sate.....ha ha ha

So what's the skinny on black RX's?
Are you sure it wasn't an RS? They look like an RX, same body, same paint scheme, wing, but I think they lack the side skirts. Not positive on that though. I just saw one the other day that I left my note on.

yet another "which is best" thread
Legacy got my vote as well, They are readily available and are cheap and reliable. Parts are also easy to find.

5spd into ea81 trouble! help! (pics and questions)
I guess this is part of the reason why people buy Jerry's kit for 100 bucks. I still have to do my 5spd conversion. Might wait for spring though, it's already too damn cold. Good luck! Boz
