  1. Jerry, that is very cool. Well, go to the junkyard, and bring a lugnut with you to check the threads!
  2. Wow...I'm really impressed, that looks awesome in there. Very nice work!
  3. It sounds like a heater core to me. I think you know, but I wasn't sure when you said you filled it till it was full. But the way I always do it is, fill the radiator up with the car off, burp all the coolant lines you can get your hands on, and keep adding fluid as it goes down. Then, once you've got it good, fire it up with the rad cap off and add fluid as necessary, and watch the air bleed out. It really helps in these cars if you park uphill, or jack the front end up in the air. Run the car with the cap off till the tstat opens, and keep adding fluid as you need to. Then once its running, and there is no more air, or just small bubbles every now and then coming up, put the cap on and you should be ready to roll. I know you're no stranger though to subaru's, so if I just misunderstood and posted this all for nothing, I'm sorry
  4. You could just pick it up and carry it too
  5. Joe, you have to mean the hill that starts by the Blue Ridge Hotel. That hill is long and steep, I have to drop her into 3rd. But I'm only pulling 3500 to 4k at the most, that's to do about 55 up the hill. That's with a running start from the previous hill by the way. Does sound like it's lacking in power if you have to crank it up that high. A tune up couldn't hurt if you haven't done so. But I'd be a little more concerned with the lifter tap if it's constant. Mine will tap on occasion, but only at idle, and if you touch the gas, it goes away.
  6. Cole, what hill are you going up? Just for reference, I can let you know what gear I take it in.
  7. Numbchux, Right on, I didn't know that. Sorry for the mistake then. Regardless, if you do find the length of the belt you need. They have the length of the belts they sell listed on the website, so maybe you could just find one by length then.
  8. You could also check out Rockauto.com. They have belts for cars that didn't come with A/C. Check them out, might be what you need!
  9. Hocrest, my wagon is Maroon in color with a bunch of stickers on the rear window. Sometimes I'll wave to the other wagons around here, but most of them just give me a wierd look. They just don't understand I'll definately keep an eye out for you though, I always go through Cressona to go bowling up at westwood. I'd honk, but I had to disconnect the horn because it sticks on So I'll just wave, haha. But yeah, there are actually 3 or 4 ea81 hatches down there too, they used to be in the bottom right corner, near all the old beetles. I must have missed the Brat though! I'll probably go this weekend sometime to look around.
  10. And that hovercraft is pretty damn cool too! Nice find Loyale 2.7!
  11. Subpilot, that's some good information there, especially from someone who is in the process of building on of these planes. I'm glad this thread turned into a good discussion. It's neat hearing about these motors used for air travel.
  12. "Would you hang from a cliff 20,000 feet high holding only one end of an EA82 timing belt?" Well said... I had just searched "EA82 Aviation" and a whole bunch of conversion sites came up, along with a whole bunch for EJ's. Pretty neat stuff!
  13. Hey there, since you said about there being an EA81 drought at Harry's, you should check out EZ-Pull down my way. I was just there last weekend and there is a whole bunch of EA81's down here. Here's their website if you wanted to check it out! http://www.joesusedautoparts.com/EZPull.html
  14. Ahh, very cool, got some good information here I didn't know before. I had just remember seeing aircraft intakes and stuff for the EA82, but you guys are right, it probably isn't as popular. Like I said, I didn't start the thread for any particular reason, just to learn a little more. Thanks guys, and girls!
  15. Oh I see, It's something I really don't know much about. Just figured someone on here might have had there hands in it before. I'll have too look up some more info on that, thanks!
  16. I would bet on the alternator by the sounds of it. But since it wasn't charging, it discharged the battery like Cougar said. Take the battery out and charge it up full. Then put it back in and see if you can get it to run. When it's running, disconnect one of the battery leads, if it dies, its probably a bad alternator.
  17. This might not be the right place for it. But I was just reading over the thread named Oil Leak BS. We all know by experience how well our engines leak So my question is, it seems to be popular to use EA82's in small airplanes. Are they doing anything differently to seal the motors up? This is just out of curiosity btw, always looking to know more. Judging by GD's response in the last thread, this might be a good question for him.
  18. Ahh, sniffer tests...I don't envy you. Where I'm at it's just visual inspection yet. And the Tick of Death...haha, I should have known that one. All 3 of my wagons did it at one time. I just give it a rev and they shut up I don't know anything at all about Seafoam, but I'm also on E30tech.com (older BMW forum) and they swear by it on there. I just despise oil additives, haha.
  19. Well, you might want to post this, or have it moved to the Newer Generation forum. Regardless, I'm not sure where you are located, but Deer Lake Subaru, about 4 miles from me always did good work. http://deerlakeautosales.com/auto/index.php They've always been good to my family and I, and they've been around for a long time.
  20. Hahah, yea, it seems that subject strikes a nerve with alot of people.
  21. Well.... #1- That aftermarket coil may work okay, and it may not. It sounds like they fed you a line of ************ about sending better signal and all that. Normally though, these cars don't seem to react well to anything but an OEM. $40 is probably what a stock one will cost you and is really your best bet. Edit: Keep that old coil if it ain't bad! You never know when you'll need it #2- I feel stupid, but I don't know what TOD is. But if your losing that much oil, that quickly, I'd think one of the main seals. That is, if its leaking it out and not using it. #3- Since the innards are rattling around, and the gasket is gone. It sounds to me like a great time to take it apart and replace the gasket Then, while your down there, decide what you want to do. By all means, I like to look out for the environment when I can but it all depends on how much money you want to spend. I would say... A: Buy a cat and throw it on, they aren't very expensive. B: If you don't feel like spending the money and getting more parts, then just knock the stuffing out of your cat now (if its already rattling, then half your job is done ) But make sure its not a heat shield or anything before you tear it apart.
  22. If it doesn't click when you try to turn them on, I would say something is stripped out in the lever assembly. Regardless of whether the high beams are working or not, the lever should still click.
  23. If I could, I'd love to have another 88 GL wagon. Reliable, good on gas, dual range would go anywhere you wanted it to, and plenty of space to haul whatever you needed to. Another nice thing about the pre-Lego's are...13" tires are cheap
  24. So I see I wasn't the only one having fun in the snow yesterday and today. Anyway, if you hear a clunk, I usually think balljoint. But I'm not sure if that is what your problem is. Especially with the offroad donuts and stuff, I wonder if it could use an alignment. I abused my 90 Loyale offroad for awhile and the front end got all jacked up. I had it realigned and it fixed Most of the problems. And Loyale 2.7, maybe Tie Rod your thinking of?
  25. Just to clarify, I was incorrect in my saying "you should replace the head bolts every time". This was only a matter of preference, and I am at fault. To Gary, and Gloyale, you are completely right, the head bolts do not need to be changed every time. I made a mistake in my post, and I'm glad there are other competent Subaru mechanics to clarify for everyone else.
