  1. UPDATE: So, suspicions confirmed. Timing belt sprockets are on in the wrong order! I've gotta get it back together now (which may not happen until tomorrow at this point) and we'll see if this cures the nasty bog/hesitation issue I've got. Remember, I've checked pretty much everything else by this point, car has new plugs, wires, cap, rotor, air filter, fuel filter, I've run injector cleaners, Seafoam, changed CTS, changed TPS, checked MAF, set timing, etc, etc, etc.
  2. Legacy = totally different car. More power, heavier, no dual range transmission.
  3. It's the standard 660cc inline 4. This particular one does does not have the supercharger, so top speed is probably about 120km/r.
  4. True, but at least it's a practical Radio Flyer. Can you guys actually license these for road use in your states? I thought pretty much all states had a "offroad use only" for these things? I saw one similar in Priest River, ID, but I think it was a farm license.
  5. This may or may not be true. I have now seen two D/R trannys from '88 SPFI cars that did not have the neutral switch.
  6. What I used is a bleeder hose with the check valve built into it. Any way you look at it, you need a hose, so this is the way I chose to do it.
  7. I bought a speed bleeder at Taylor Wilton in town here - think it was about $10, worked great. I bled starting with the longest line, working to the shortest. Just checked the manual, and it says: RR, LF, LR, RF. I wasn't so particular, seeing as I knew I'd be doing it again soon (this was when I did my rear disc swap, right after putting the swampers on).
  8. Definitely!! And don't try driving down to Trail until you've bled them good and thorough, either. Shoot, wish I had time to come up and help you out, but I think I'm doing my front brakes this weekend, too (rotors and pads). (I'm in Nelson, BTW)
  9. Were they the same diameter as stock, or larger diameter?
  10. Anyone else see these before? - http://www.ingallseng.com/parts/38100.htm I wonder how beefy they are?
  11. Possible - this is the 3rd alternator that's been in the car since we bought it (this one's brand new) - same problem across all three.
  12. I'm worried that I know the answer to this one, but . . . I'm trying to set up a Harmon Kardon Drive + Play in my wife's Forester. Works awesome until I start the car, then it sounds like a helicopter is flying by. I experienced this with a regular FM transmitter on the iPod, too. Is this because these things are so friggin' picky on plug wires, and I've got Bosch instead of NGK? The damn wires are only a little over a year old (put on when we got the car), so they aren't shot. Plus, the first time I noticed it was just after we got the car.
  13. That would work, but it's not a legal substitute in most places. Part of the function of the e-brake is to give you some braking power in the event of total hydraulic system failure. Most places, a mech. e-brake is required by law.
  14. I knew someone else's car that I had seen had this done! Pics, I need pics! BTW, dad might be coming over to Kelowna in the near future. (heck. I'll probably be there within the next month or two). Got some more adaptor plates kicking around? I'll be wanting one soon.
  15. Saw his, but have not exactly seen him around for awhile to ask questions. Anyone, anyone, . . . Bueller ?
  16. Mine's already a 5spd, pushbutton. Just need the low range!
  17. Thanks John. My D/R is from a newer car, so all indicator light switches are on the tranny. I think I've got it covered now, thanks for the input. (unless anyone else has something to say)
  18. OK, got me some more: That should do 'er, right? Are those two studs on top of the 4WD lever pivot for a switch?
  19. Anyone done the dual front shock mod on their EA-82? (mine's a Loyale - 4" lift). Just wondering if it helps control the bigger tires better.
  20. Yah, I know you knew what they are, but you didn't understand what he said I've always been told they were wheel cylinders, ever since I was a wee boy. makes sense: you've got your master cylinder, and your wheel cylinders.
  21. Here's a visual aid for those of you who don't know what a wheel cylinder is: From http://autorepair.about.com/library/images/bl237lib.htm Yes, I personally think aluminum wheel cylinders are not the best choice for some climates, but they seem to work OK here in Western Canada
  22. My 27" Swamper SSR's have a nice highway ride. A little noisy, but not too bad. Not nearly as bad as I expected them to be. Keep in mind this is on a Loyale, too, so your experience will be quieter do to the extra sound deadening material on Legacys/Outbacks. They are big meaty tires, so balancing them properly can be difficult - my tire shop did a really good job.
  23. [OT]Which reminds me: there's a Lancia around here, gotta get some pics of it sometime! Strangely enough, I have no idea what model it is, as I have only seen it a couple times while driving by it at highway speed.[/OT]
  24. If there really are 2 Turbo Legacys in a yard near you, and the engines and harnesses are really that cheap, I'm sure you could find people who would pay you to pull them and ship/deliver/make available for pickup. I for one would probably pay you a good chunk of labour for the harness an ECU if I get this engine.
