  1. I do believe thats the one! I'll have to ask Andrew since it was before I was into Subarus yet but it sure looks like it!
  2. well if it is a turbowagon, it should have 3.70 diffs both front and rear BUT you could get a XT6 with a FT tranny which had the 3.90 diffs. So someone might have swapped the tranny and diff from a XT6 OR possibly a non turbo GL-10 maybe?
  3. I smell a new EA82T being built in my garage very shortly;)
  4. mmm pics of it to iroc_z2814@msn.com please. I might know this car from when I still lived in Oregon since there was only one FF-1 that I knew of when I lived there.
  5. well when I go out and start her up, she runs like a dream. Even my '78 Brat didn't run this good. I was thinkin it was a vapor lock problem but I can smell the gas even before I start cranking it over. I know its not the fuel pump since I can hear it click on and off with the ignition.
  6. umm, it can't be an '81 wagon with a 1400 unless someone decided they wanted to take a 1400 from a gen 1 stage 1 car and put it into an '81 wagon. The wagon is going to be a gen 2 bodystyle... Oh and I bet you're not as drunk as me!!! I'm the USMB drunken appretice!!! :drunk: :drunk:
  7. After I go for a spin and the Brat gets up to operating temperature, if I park it and leave it for about an hour, maybe less, its realy hard to start. I can tell its flooded and it takes me a couple minutes for her to clear up and get started. I know its getting flooded by the smell of unburned fuel coming into the cabin. Choke is not sticking closed since I have already checked this. What else would cause this to happen?
  8. Soundin good Paul. I wish I can have kids that will be like that. At least I found me a girl who loves gen 1 Subarus;)
  9. you think looking at the pics is bad? Try seeing it in action at WCSS6... Now THAT was HOT!!!
  10. you are correct my friend. As far as blocks go, the only differences between and turbo and a nonturbo block is one or two things depending on what nonturbo block you have. The turbo blocks have a PCV coming from the back of the block right next to the bellhousing sticking straight up into the air and also has a hole for the knock sensor. IIRC, the carbed and SPFI engines have no knock sensor but the threaded bung for them should be there I believe. The nonturbo MPFI block has a knock sensor but no PCV and the turbo has the knock sensor AND PCV.
  11. basically everything from the firewall forward is the same. Fenders, hoods, front valence, grilles, headlights, wiring, the dash and dash components. The doors, glass except for the windshield, and everything else will not swap. Drivetrain will swap, suspension (front and rear) will though. I've had both sitting side by side ('78 Brat and '79 4wd wagon).
  12. I think this car might have lived in Albany possibly. I know there was an FF-1 wagon in Albany that disappeared. I'm from Corvallis, lived in Albany and had a couple friends in Scio man. Great score and I'm sooooooo jealous!!!
  13. or go with a carbon fiber color. My friend had an '89 GL sedan with wagon wheels and he painted them this carbon fiber color. It looked sweet. He also did the hood that color since it came off of another vehicle. His sedan was about the same color as your wagon.
  14. Looks like I got a date to have the RX running by....
  15. Just go down to the nearest autopart store and replace them and save the hassle of them possibly leaking again. I do it whenever I disconnect the brake calipers on the car to same me the worry of getting air bubbles in there. So I would recommend replacing them since they tend to get grooved from the bolt heads
  16. Wow.... just wow...... I'd be all over a set but at that kind of price, I think I feel my wallet burning
  17. Better let LUVMYBRAT know since he's looking for an engine....
  18. I know a few of you guys have been looking for a cherry gen 1 dash for some time now *cough Paul *cough*. I came across this on ebay and it might have been posted awhile ago but I couldn't remember. Anyways check out the link http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/77-81-Subaru-Brat-Stage-II-Stand-NEW-Dash-Pad-Coverlay_W0QQitemZ8032091020QQcategoryZ40017QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
  19. you just need to swap the heads and depending on what block you have (carbed, SPFI, MPFI) it'll raise the compression ratio which will make the car a bit quicker. Also, swap the intake as well since they differ between the turbo and non turbo MPFI cars.
  20. Will, There's a few of us who are very appreciative of the hard work/ time your taking to figure out all of this. I myself is one of them and since I have a car to drive at the moment, the RX is getting the complete engine buildup done to it. I'm doing it right, taking my time because like its been said before, ANY engine can make a lot of horsepower, it just depends on how much money you're willing to spend. Then after the buildup, comes the time it takes to tune it right. Another reason why these engines go BOOOOOOM is the disrespect of proper tuning. Trust me, I've been reading all about the different parts that can be made to work in these cars and about 95% of them you have discovered.
  21. would be better then the butt end of it bouncing all over the road like its a mexican jumping bean! You have to remember I know what a stiff ride is like in a Brat... I had the one with no suspension at all!
  22. let me ask Bill if he needs a new one for the Brat. I might be sending you some money for it plus the metal ring.
  23. I would actually highly recommend replacing the hose with new instead of used. Why risk your turbo going kapuut when you can get a piece of hosing the right diameter and about 6" in length for roughly $2.00 from Napa and they have it in stock. Its also a lot more durable then the stock hose that originally came on the EA82T. I replaced the one on my RX since it was leakin oil like a champ from that hose. Also get a couple new hose clamps for it as well. It'll take a couple hours to replace but you'll be glad you did when you're done.
  24. wow, ok I'm bringin back an old thread since I'm going to be using the EA82 rear coilovers in the back of the same Brat that LUVMYBRAT has been talking about in this thread. So if I crank the torsion bars down in the rear and install the EA82 rear coilovers, will it still sit at stock height? Will they even bolt into an unlifted Brat? I'm thinkin they will since McBrat has already said he put some in an unlifted Brat but how did it make it handle and what did you have to do to the stock torsion bars?
