  1. I'm not considering this a threadjack because it has to do with Frankenmotors and transmissions and such:) How have you liked the OBX front diff? That's the plan for my Frankenmotored Brat. Jacob
  2. I bet it's stolen. EJ257s don't have the VIN on the block or anything, do they? Jacob
  3. I was trying to be funny. I think that word originates from people trying to sneak things into prison. They'd put them in their butts, or "keisters" because that's the only place the guards wouldn't look. Obviously your friend in Florida won't be doing that, but I'd imagine he or she may have at least some difficulty moving calipers. I've only dealt with the Canadian border, so my experience may be quite different. Jacob
  4. I haven't had any major problems with it in the past, but I know what you're saying. It can't be as bad as keistering brake calipers on an airplane:lol: Jacob
  5. That's good news, although I'm sure you could have had rebuilt ones delivered to you weeks ago if you had used rockauto.com. Jacob
  6. Like they said, this is old news. I disowned Pastrana, burned everything with "199" on it and started boycotting everything having to do with him months ago. Jacob
  7. Next time you're at GD's, look at what size the Brat's tires are. They keep the same diameter as stock, so the speedometer will only be as off as it came from the factory. With the favorable offset of the pugs, you probably won't have to cut anything. Jacob
  8. I see your point, and like I said, the Frankenmotor worked for me. At least we can hopefully agree that if you spend any money on performance things for an EJ22 without doing cams, then you're retarded. I'm basing my on-the-fence-ness on what the Frankenmotor godfather says. Also, can't you just run a thinner head gasket to up the compression? http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=20963767&postcount=13 http://forums.nasioc.com/forums/showpost.php?p=20966590&postcount=16 Jacob
  9. Yeah. Upon reading my last post, I realized that I didn't specify. Jacob
  10. There is an advantage, but whether it's worth it for you is up to you, of course. If you don't have a problem with what you have now, then you probably shouldn't mess with it. I've tried a few different oils in my 6-speed. This stuff has been the best so far. You can shift into first going probably 15 mph. Maybe even more. Also, you can shift into 2-6 in the bitter cold before things get warmed up. All of the other oils I've tried have put up a fight until things get warmed up. Jacob
  11. Wow. I've never heard of that before. A lot of people have been buying the big containers and trying to sell what they don't use. Jacob
  12. Well, you know I'm still on the fence on this one. I don't know the price or the performance gains from cams on an EJ25D, and I don't wanna know, because I'm happy with my Frankenmotor:) Yeah, sure thing, as long as it's drivable. I have a few upgrades planned for the winter:cool: Jacob
  13. I thought Extra-S was only available in big containers. Jacob
  14. I'm not sure about all combinations of blocks and heads, but mine is. It's a Phase I block with Phase I heads. Jacob
  15. I can't be totally sure, but it looks like your confusion comes from this part^^^. Frankenmotors are for people who already have an EJ22 in their car. You don't add the heads of an EJ22 because you'd already have those. You're just slipping in a different block. That block is bigger and gives you higher compression. The (or one of the) godfathers of the Frankenmotor says to not add EJ22 heads if you already have an EJ25 in your car. It sounds like you do, so the Frankenmotor is not intended for you. You already have the bigger displacement that the Frankenmotor builders are seeking. Your heads also flow better. Apparently the increased compression of adding EJ22 heads does not outweigh the loss of flow. Jacob
  16. I'm glad I'm subscribed to this because I'm interested in the booster swap. I looked into it many months ago, but I couldn't find any good info. Jacob
  17. The condition of the transmission you're putting in matters too, obviously. I think I got lucky by getting one that was used properly by the previous owner. The linkage was a disaster, but then again, just about every part of my swap was a disaster. It was worth it, though, for the poop-eating grin it provides:grin: Jacob
  18. Rockauto.com is your best bet. I got refurbished calipers there for cheap, and they work well. Check online for discount codes for them too. Sorry I couldn't help more. I don't have the resources. Jacob
  19. Unless he won the lottery since I spoke with him last, yes, he works there:) He was an advocate of their cams way before they hired him, though. Jacob
  20. I'm not trying to be a jerk here, but I don't think I'll feel right if I don't respond. I think it's sort of odd that you would say that. The turnaround time is definitely posted on NASIOC, and it's most likely posted here. 1-3 are also covered here and on NASIOC. Also, two board members work there. Also, they have a phone. I've asked 3 different employees questions, and I was given info. Jacob
  21. I know a certain self-proclaimed rump roast posted a price at one point. Also, at least 2 board members work there. Also, you can call and ask Delta themselves. I don't know how much I spent for mine, since I bought a few things from them at the same time. There are sales, too, so the price can be less than usual. I remember a "Camtoberfest" at one point. They're hilariously cheap compared to some of these other so-called "power mods". Jacob
  22. I've never driven a Forester, but I know that going from an EJ22 to a Fankenmotor was a substantial increase in power without that much cost. Jacob
  23. Having added Delta cams, I'd say that you would have to be retarded to do any other power modification that costs any money and not add those cams. Also, if your engine blows up the next day due to age, those cams wouldn't be hard to sell, I bet. I wasn't happy with the power from my EJ22 swap, but when it got the Frankenmotor/Delta cams upgrade, I became happy really quick:) You mentioned your distaste for EJ25s, and if you're rational, then that's fine. If you're just superstitious, though, I think you should reevaluate that setup if you're serious about passing people. Jacob P.S. "You" in my first paragraph isn't referring to TheLoyale. I'm using the indefinite you, so "You" means anyone.
  24. From what I've read, it's a crapshoot between cooling and gasket integrity. People who opt for cooling usually drill holes where needed. I opted for gasket integrity and left the gaskets how they were. I don't know of anyone having any issues either way. Jacob
  25. Lots of people on here know more about this than I do, but it's my understanding that gray and red ones are close and are not a bottleneck at our power levels. I'd recommend searching, because the answer is out there. As I said, you'd probably need a different ECU or tuning of some kind with upgraded injectors. I've never seen a documented case of a Frankenmotor running better with different injectors, at least not at my build level. Jacob P.S. Standard renob123 disclaimer applies here: I'm not an expert, but I read a lot and have done some stuff. Don't replace actual thinking with anything I say, and be sure to check with experts on stuff you aren't sure about.
