Direct bolt on turbo?: ea82T -> ea81T
MSSLGECKO replied to MSSLGECKO's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Hi Brian, I'm doing good. . . and finally got another EA81T. I've been subieless for a full year. So, I'm having trouble finding a water-cooled EA81T. My understanding was that this oil-cooled unit was factory recalled early on and replaced with a oil&water-cooled turbo. Can someone set me straight? -

Thanks! I guess I'm not very good at searching . I suppose I will stick w/ the ea81t unit. -
Direct bolt on turbo?: ea82T -> ea81T

I've heard different people say different things about the compatibility of these two turbos. I need to replace an oil-cooled ea81 turbo unit. I want to know if the ea82 turbo will bolt into the existing ea81 manifolds. I am about to try an ea82t anyways to see if it works, b/c the ea81t is not common. Thanks for input! -
Anyone think this is crazy?

Maybe the price includes a ride in the car! -

Its not moving, and I don't have a digi-cam handy or a url to upload hi'er res pic.s It's beautiful, and I'm in love again. ea81t's are the best. I found the sunroof bag in the original plastic unused last night. -

Well, it looks like the hard line has a hole in it. Furthermore, it looks like this EA81T never got the recall cooling upgrade for the turbo. I suspect the turbo is indeed dead. Perhaps I'll go to the dealership to demand the factory recall ! How do I order a replacement hardline w/ the necessary fittings? Or, can anyone recommend a 'band-aid' fix for a small hole on the oil line, (like jb weld . .) ? -

Turbo Traction Coupe !!

I'm trying to figure out where to get a replacement screw: It's called the 'union screw' and connects the oil line to the turbo. Is this a part I need to get from the dealership or is it common enough to get at a parts store? It's the one that connects through the oil line and into the turbo unit. -

So, I'm trying to figure out the oil leak / smoke / reportedly dead turbo issue. There's a pretty fast oil leak from the (inlet) oil line going to the turbo on the top. It's called a 'union bolt'. Is this a part I need to order from the dealership? Anyone have experience with this part? It looks like the oil is dripping on the exhaust, so I think this will be an easy fix. Can someone tell me how to determine the condition of the turbo? -

Can you not see the pic.s in my first post?? They're in my album anyways. -
I was gonna drag it home w/ my d.d. cause the p.o. made it sound like it would barely run. No tools necessary, it drove (slowly) home on its own! 58K original miles w/ documents all the way back to purchase. It needs some work, mostly w/ the brakes, the smoking turbo (?), and some cosmetics. Interior is perfect w/ electric windows and a broken digi-dash.

My newest J/Y find...

I'm interested in your digital dash that you found. I am picking up a T-coupe w/ blown digi next week. Where in Idaho are you? -
I had these same tires (R14) on my '83 lifted (4/3 BYB) wagon. They were great! I did have to trim the fenders a tiny bit to prevent rubbing. The car lived in Missoula and Bozeman and now live w/ its new owner in Kalispell.

I'm not much help, but reading the previous post one thing jumped out at me. . . You state that your car runs 'cold' for the first HOUR of operation, then warms up and runs fine?!? If your engine is cold for that long, that is a problem. The problem then goes away once the engine is at running temp?

Awesome, thanks for the reply! Which transmissions have you used and what were the pros/cons? Also, what is the hardest part of this swap going to be for a first-timer, in your opinion? Thanks for the feedback, man.

Very good point. It would be awesome to have a write-up based on this wiring layout. Even if it's not the 'rosetta stone' that we need, it could provide an excellent base of information for this swap so that others may try it and improve the add more detailed information. I think you're pretty keen for picking up on this immediately, that didn't even cross my mind until I read your thoughts on it.

So, I've read a bit about this swap, its pretty well documented and all. It sounds like a very involved at-mt tranny swap and more expensive than most swaps. Is it worth the colossal effort in your opinion?

DIY'ers seem to like using PVC tubing. Size? Same as your intake diameter; it should fit an air filter at the top. Try a SEARCH, there are pictures that members have posted of their setups. You could glean some good ideas from their experience. INFACT, scroll to the bottom of this page and use the 'Similar Threads' box to link to some of these examples.

Scooby, I would really appreciate some documentation on how you made disconnects. Especially if you are making new ones currently and can photograph those pieces and the ones on your car. Cheers

Those side graphics are SICK. I've never seen that version before, are they 'factory' stock (I presume that dealers were the ones who usually added these graphics.) -

It seems like almost every day a there is a thread where a noob asks about driving in 4WD on pavement. . . Maybe we need a Sticky that reads: "4WD = Don't drive on the g*d d*mn pavement!" - Thoughts? -
What model Subaru is it?
MSSLGECKO replied to Mike Kamm's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
You can register them in Montana as an ATV (which are road legal here). -
Thanks a bunch, Scott! What is the length necessary for this?

I need to replace the bolt that holds the plate (EA81) which attaches to both the leading rod and holds the tranny cross member, it also passes through a 3" lift block. Can anyone tell me the exact size of this bolt? IIRC, it was a 19mm head and a 1.25 thread. I'm not sure of length and bolt diameter. Thanks a bunch!
