  1. My T-Wagon w/ 5SPD and 27" tires has been getting ~12 MPG. I've been wondering the same thing as you. I'm sortof suprised to hear this from others. . . I just assumed that it needs a tune up, or that there is a more serious issue at hand.
  2. Instead of starting a new thread about the same thing . . . Can anyone point me in the right direction for purchasing cheap-o tires (like walmart brand) I'm looking for good experiences w/ cheap brands and models. Thanks for any input.
  3. Use the clutch (or put it in neutral). The shifter is hard to disengage because of the tranny binding up due to a lack of slippage (on paved surfaces). Putting the car in reverse for a a few yards typically will relieve most of the tension. BTW, if your car is binding up when you used 4WD, you probably didn't need to use it.
  4. Is your front camber effected by the use of outback or forester struts? How is the axle extension? This recent post made me think about it...
  5. It sounds like your differential stub shaft is not properly spring-clipped on the front diff. but is properly pinned to your axle. The axle may be the only thing holding the stub shaft against the diff. When the stub shaft is separated from the diff. you will leak your diff. fluid. I would not recommend driving on it unless the clip is properly in place, the diff. is full w/ fluid, and not leaking. As for it moving 1/2"~1" but not fully separating, that is because the axle is in place (i think) - if you remove the axle, it will probably not stay in place and you will empty the fluid [again].
  6. BlueSteel - Can you tell me where your window crank handle came from? Your speaker setup is very nice and the camper floor is a cool way to go!
  7. ^ What he said. I wouldn't expect the whole stubshaft to come out w/ an axle installed; the axle is most likely the only thing holding the stub in.
  8. Have you searched? The only thing I've seen board members do/mention is using stiffer RX springs (in front ?) to gain ~1", IIRC. Mostly it's just body lifting for the old EA8-1 & -2's. I'm not sure about yours or other EA82 models, but EA81 Subes have adjustable struts. Some EA82 models came with a typically failing air suspension which lifted the auto up ~1" when engaged.
  9. Cool, thanks. How about just stacking up a bunch of brake fluid outside the dealership shop at night?
  10. I asked the parts guys at the dealership about using any gasket sealer (specifically RTV) and they were pretty adamant about not using anything on cork. They said to put a little bit of oil on it and that's it. These guys were saying that the cork would absorb the oil and this would create the best seal - RTV would limit the cork's ability to do this. I'm undecided with regard to using a sealer versus using regular oil.
  11. Where do you guys take coolant, engine oil, brake fluid, tranny/diff. fluids, elbow grease, headlamp oil, etc to dispose of them?
  12. RyanB, you crack me up man! (that was before and after I read your reply to comments ) I love your install job! The door pocket ones really seal the deal - do they hold much rigidity or move with the beat?
  13. Where as the General has the facts down to a science.
  14. They make kits to generate the BOV sound and you don't even have to worry about the turbo/ic/etc plumbing(!) Thta's cool. I want an EJ22 w/ side exit exhaust & minimal emission controls.
  15. There is also an AWD D/R 5 spd that came in some EA82T models (rear lsd included).
  16. This donor car has cool seats! I've always wanted some in that plaid material. This will be a cool project, I look forward to seeing it unfold! Good luck.
  17. An opening hatch is the first thing that came to my mind when I saw it first (in the CL/eBay forum). But the solid hatch looks like an integral part of the car's rigidity. It looks like it would be 3x more difficult to make it a functioning setup versus the welding they did. That said, it would be great for cargo capacity to open the hatch and fold down the bench.
  18. It sounds like you're using a gasket set other than the dealership's(?) Thanks.
  19. So . . . trial and error? Or will I just feel it. GD - Can u clarify what RTV is? I hear about it on this forum, but do not know what the heck it is or where to get it . . . BTW, I'm liking this run-down of everyone's personal approaches. Thanks!
  20. Just wanted to check in with the gurus before I go trying to fix things I'm not sure how to. I'm doing this on my EA81T. 1 Do I use SOA gaskets? 2 Do I use any sealer, what kind? 3 Am I okay to do this without a torque wrench? Thanks guys!
  21. I think subaru made this change in the 2000's and before that all their vehicles were cars including the Brat where the bed is a passenger compartment, thus the jump seats.
  22. "*(Measured from ground to the bottom of the bumper)" That's lame. I think it said that you can have 3 or 4 inches of body lift . . .
