  1. Nothing as of yet. I haven't had the time or money to start tooling around with my suspension in my snowy parking lot. (garage got demolished) I was given the suggestion of running a second strut on both front corners to get the higher ride height, so that's what I'm hoping to do at this point. I don't think I will do anything until I have done an EJ22 swap because at this point the Brat is a zero-budget car for me. If I ever get 'er dun, I'll be sure to post.
  2. Seriously!! Welcome back GD, glad to see you around the board!
  3. Well, wouldn't it operate the same as my EA81 4WD when the front axles are removed? (= RWD) In this case all the power does go to the rear because there is no resistance from the front. I'm glad you brought this up, it seems like it would be easier to manage all the shifters if you run an auto tranny.
  4. Thanks for posting the pic's, those look perfect! How does the offset look on the sube?
  5. It's been off the road for some time, but the turbo is a blast and definately helps the car with driving the large tires and can achieve good highway speeds.
  6. search this forum !!! My fenders are trimmed and you can see them if you follow the link
  7. 1st off, I would not use an auto for big tires. As for what Single Range v. Dual Range is - single is 4WD w/ same gearing as 2WD. D/R is Hi-same as 2WD and Lo-all gears are reduced for crawling and lowspeed operation. I would definately not want to offroad w/out Lo-range. But using 4Hi you can do plenty of stuff you just have to hit hills/obstacles with some serious momentum which is definately fun and destructive. Good luck!
  8. I personally use 4Lo like it's another gear. I don't sweat changing gears while changing between the ranges most of the time. The only thing that I do worry about is rev-matching and that's the same as shifting any into any other gear. I've put my Brat into some great slides in low traction roads by downshifting into Lo using 2nd gear and it works flawlessly. Owning EA D/R's has made me dislike driving trucks and other non on the fly 4WD's more because of the lack of versatility for city and highway driving. As far as the MPH that I'll go in 4-Hi or -Lo, it is limited by the gearing, the occasional speed limit sign, and my engine power. When I ran the D/R in RWD, I had no problem using 4Lo on the highway for hills and on-ramp accelerations and am not worried about the Lo range standing up to high speeds, I think its fine to do 65+ in Lo if you can get your car that fast on safe roadways.
  9. I don't have any input except for the fact that after considering using an EJ22T I decided for the non-turbo because it will be substantially easier to swap. Anyhow, good luck doing it. I plan to swap in a turbo sometime in the future and will follow your progress. Keep us posted! (Isn't this a retrofitting forum thread?)
  10. So, as we know you are to have your wheels straight when putting a sube in 4WD - why? Do they need to be straight when going between 4Hi and 4Lo? Thanks,
  11. Yeah, just what John posted - swap the spline shafts for the proper EA82 ones - I'm going to use PB 4WD ones. Then the stock axles will work a-okay. And shorten the drive shaft to match the brat wheel base of course. I'm super stoked to find this out because I'm going to save myself a good amount of cash by avoiding the adapter plate and clutch/flywheel. I've decided that I would rather have the EJ AWD tranny than any PT EA82. The only thing that would make running an EA82 tranny for me would be if I had a D/R FT4WD from an RX.
  12. John - I'll give you a call tomorrow sometime about this. Thanks for saying something, running stock axles will help keep costs down! As for the 5-lug, I've thought about it but as long as I'm able to get Peugeots, I won't need more lugs. Plus, IIRC it's hard to find any definitive information on the swap into the EA81 - most is regarding the EA82.
  13. Thanks for knowing the axles needed. Howabout the shift linkage? Will I need a welder to make it fit? For the Xmember, could I use the stock 4SPD D/R one and weld onto it to make it work w/ stock EJ mounts?
  14. Hey, can I run the stock EJ22 manual tranny in my EA81? I recall someone on the board was working on running the EJ tranny - how hard is it and how does it work? What axles are used? I'm thinking it might be a little easier for me to carry the tranny over w/ the engine instead of spending $$ on a clutch, adaptor, flywheel, etc. What do you think, can I do it for cheaper this way? Thanks,
  15. There are a few lift vendors around the site. They should be pretty easy to find. Allied Armament, BYB/PK (you found the website), some people can lift your car themselves. My rig has the 4/3 lift that you reffered to and I have 27" tires on 14" peugeot wheels. I had to trim the front fender some to prevent rubbing. If you follow the link in my signature, you can see how I trimmed and how everything fits. Good luck - it's well worth it!
  16. I'm thinking about adding a set of rancho's or something of the like onto my Brat's front suspension. I know that SubaruBrat has done it, but I have not seen any pic.s or discussion of how it has been done. Has anyone else done it? Anyways, the top part should be pretty easy, but how does the bottom mount up?
  17. Brian, I'll be back from Missoula tomorrow evening and will talk to you then or the following evening. As for the NY's gathering, I don't have anything else going on so tell me where to rally at and I'll be there. I haven't been given my work schedule yet, so there's an off-chance I would have to work around that. See you guys,
  18. I don't see the point myself. If it is to have 8 gears, then I'm with you - RWD is the ticket. But if it's just to remove the 4WD function and burn out in FWD, I don't get it cause FWD = 0-Fun. As far as gearing in Lo range, each Lo gear is just below the same gear in Hi and above the one below it in Hi. --> 1Hi<2Lo<2Hi, etc. Oh, and in RWD, you can totally burn while shifting w/ closer gears. (Forgot about the Turbo D/R's w/ 3.7 ratios)
  19. You're right - D/R 2WD is really nice for driving around and on the highway climbing hills, etc - basically anytime you need more gearing. I learned this during the summer/fall when I converted my Brat to RWD. Shift on the fly from 4Lo to 4Hi is very nice - 8 forward gears and 2 reverse - can't beat that. Guys w/ 5SPD FT4WD D/R's will tell you that it's fun as well, but they have less reduction in Lo range and a 3.7 diff. ratio as opposed to 4WD D/R's 3.9.
