So, I just found out my room mate has been neglecting his loyale and that he lost his oil cap. Will this cause any damage? I figure it would after a little while, but don't have any factual evidence. Anyone?

I'm shocked and amazed. Gotta ask what transmission you are running and if it is stock, is it holding together? Also, how is the engine holding up? How many miles have you put on it with this setup? What did you do to your suspension to make it hold together? *enough questions for now* Thanks for sharing, this car sounds pretty darn sweet!

Anyone runnin' the 15" Pug flat spokes?
MSSLGECKO replied to EYE_WHY's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Russ - Do you have any more pic.s of those wheels on your subaru? I am getting the same alloys and am wondering what the backspacing looks like. I really want to see a shot along the sid of the car w/ the wheels in clear view to see the overhang - it looks pretty good. -
Some cars have stock side-exit, like the Dodge Viper for example. You may be correct though. I plan to use flanges at a couple of points to allow easy removal when necessary. As for autocross, I've seen some cars run w/out any exhaust exit unless you consider under the car an exit. And if they won't let me play w/ them, I'll start my own darn club and not let them race w/ me.

It hasn't quite begun yet, I'm preping for finals week and collecting all the necessary parts in advance. Over my winter break I will be working on this, I'll try to get a digi-cam to borrow, but camera-phone pics might be the only thing I can get. I was thinking 2.5" also. Should I just skip the muffler and cat.? Or should I at least run a glass pack? It might be too darn loud w/out anything.

What are the suggestions on diameter of piping used for an EJ22 swap? I plan to use the stock headers. I will then start looking at doing a side-exit exhaust if it's not too laborous. Ideally, it will exit on the pass. side through the hole for the side-step blank (brat) with the piping being welded onto a sheet of metal that will cover the hole w/ two (or one?) ports from the piping to meet up w/. Any better ideas? What size piping would be easiest, best on both high and low range performance, and sound good? Edit :: What emissions parts should I retain on the exhaust system? I'm in MT so I'm most concerned w/ performance and quality of sound. Also, I'm trying to do this inexpensively, so if I buy anything it will be my buddy's used glasspack.

It gets better - I want to do that stuff once I have an EJ and around the time I break my 4SPD and go w/ a D/R FT 5SPD. That should be super cool.

? can i put a lift on 84 wagon
MSSLGECKO replied to beetreesubie's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Yes. (I'd tell you more, but I can hardly read a thing you wrote, so I don't know what you're asking specifically) -
Could I run the KYB GR2's that everyone seems to be running on their EA82's? Those can be cranked up to a pretty good ride-height, right?

Those are the tires that I wanted until a friend gave me some studded snows. They look good on the rims, but I'm a little suprised that you are running your snows on those alloys instead of some steels or stocker's. -
Exhaust Exit through Body Panels
MSSLGECKO replied to MSSLGECKO's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So, I cannot find anything what-so-ever online for this product. I guess that no one ever routes their exhaust using specifically designed tips/flanges mounted on the body. If anyone has a good source for me, let me know. Right now I'm expecting to have to cut a piece of steel so that it fits in the hole cut a circle in it w/ a diameter that will match the exhaust piping. Thanks for the input -
As commonly seen on race cars where usually 2 ports are part of one flange that mounts up flush w/ the body and has the exhaust piped to it. I am thinking that this would be a cool way to run an exhaust system in my Brat. If I can make a plate to fit, I will place it infront of the rear wheel in place of the side-step blank on driver's side. What do you guys think? Does anyone know where I could source an actual one of these plates to use?

Clutch Compatability for EA81 4SPD D/R
MSSLGECKO replied to MSSLGECKO's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Great, that's just what I needed! I'm wondering how bad the clutch slipage is w/ the stock assembly as I would like to go that route as a temporary clutch and transmission setup to be followed by an EA82 tranny w/ good clutch. As long as it's drivable, I can handle some clutch slip. -
Hmmm, does the word emissions regulations mean anything significant to you? If so, get out of Cali. I've never owned a car that I kept a full exhaust in, but that's in Montana.
-
Do it, document it, then come to my house and do it on my car! Pioneer it buddy. It's a good thought, but all I've heard of on the board is the idea, but no-one actually trying it (correct me if someone has done it). I want to see pic.s and a write-up in this thread w/in a few months!

Clutch Compatability for EA81 4SPD D/R
MSSLGECKO replied to MSSLGECKO's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I know that some people out there were talking about using EA81 4SPDs for their EJ swaps a while back. I'm hoping to figure this out before it happens rather than during so that I can have the parts on-hand for the swap. Can I use the stock EA81 flywheel on the EJ? -
How about a Montana Meet?

Look outside, Hommes. We're going to need a heater to keep them in liquid form. Or perhaps we should just stick with liquor. -
Hybrid Retro Subaru Decals
MSSLGECKO replied to MSSLGECKO's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I've got a vinyl plotter that I can use for whatever stickers I design. That's why I'm trying to come up w/ ideas for the Brat. -

Sounds good to me, I'll try to finalize my schedule in the next few days for this. P.S.:I have a couple of couches -
I want to setup my Brat rally style! I want to raise the car a little bit using softer suspension so that I can roll through rough terrain at a high speed more comfortably. I would like to hear everyone's input on what stuts/etc. can be fitted onto an EA81 to make for a longer and softer suspension. A few things that I'm tossing around in my head for this :: 1 - EA82 struts for the rear fit (?) and giv me X" of height w/ the coilovers but also stiffen the ride up, how much would I get not running the coilovers? 2 - I recall Miles Fox talking about modifying EA81 lower control arm mounts to accept EA82 suspension goodies. Is this something that could work in my favor? 3 - What will it take to mount up OBS or other EJ struts on my EA81? Thanks for reading & input!

You could run the car in RWD if you don't want to buy a new axle, but are willing to pull the old one. I found my Brat drove nicer in RWD.

As I think about using a FT4WD D/R Transm. in my Brat, I am realizing that I will need some classic looking decals to display the car's awesome-ness and prowess. This is the first thing I've slapped together, it's not perfect but is decent for a basic sketch :: What I really want is a FT4WD decal that I could rearrange to read as FT BRAT. I think that would be my favorite. However, I can't seem to find a graphic of that specific decal style.
