How about a Montana Meet?
MSSLGECKO replied to A DOG's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
As I am beginning to finalize my december trip home, I'm realizing that my plans will probably include me in Bozeman for New Year's. I'm pretty excited because I am looking at swapping an EJ22 into my Brat over the break if all the parts comes together w/in the next weeks. If anyone likes projects, this could be good candidate <-supplied Anyhow, we are getting a ton of snow - the highway is currently closed for the 200 mile stretch west (probably to the east as well). It should be a good time for everyone that brings their snowtires. We have some great areas to offroad for both aggressive powder and snow-packed roads. If anyone likes to board/ski behind cars, it should be good! If we need a place to hang out at during the intense blizzards, my house is condusive to a fair number of people who love subarus! We could celebrate a good snowy N.Y.'s -
I have been thinking it could be the fuel filter so that's where I'm going to start. Should I replace both filters or just one of them? If one, which one? Thanks,

14" Alloy Peugeot Flat Spoke '4WD Centercaps'
MSSLGECKO replied to MSSLGECKO's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Woops - wasn't paying attention when I wrote 14" That looks like a pretty good job. I'm getting a set of these wheels, but w/ only one centercap so I don't think I'll be trying it myself. -
On the 4-Bolt Wheels Page, the 14" Alloy Peugeot Flat Spoke wheel pictured has a 4WD centercap (looks similar to Subaru style). http://ultimatesubaru.org/80s/wheels2/pug15-8spoke-2.jpg Does anyone know anything about it? Is this a different manufacturer's centercap that fits the Pug? It looks great with the 4WD lettering and I can't imagine running the Peugeot centercaps on a Sube.

Actually, I think this is the last straw - I'm gonna slap an EJ22 in and be done w/ it Thanks for the input, I definately need a tune-up but I've been trying to avoid putting $ down on this EA81, so I guess the root of the problem must be my neglect.

My '84 Brat is now struggling bad (possibly as a result of cold weather) The issue is surging in the 2.5-3.5 rpm range and it won't rev. up past that in gear when the problem occurs. I shut down the engine and then fire it up and it runs ok for a little bit then does the same thing; sometimes it dies on its own. Should I just rebuild my carb? How hard is it and how expensive is a rebuild kit? Thanks,
-
Are you accepting fraudulent payment methods? I'm sure I could scheme up something. Howabout I send you 12 times that price and you send me 11 of that back?
-
I have the same thing going on over here w/ my Brat. My EA81 is struggling and I may have sourced an EJ22. I plan to run the 4SPD D/R into the ground (in RWD for summers:brow: ) then start thinking about a D/R RX FT4WD box in the Brat. As far as comparing the tranny's ability to stand up to ~135HP, the EA81T was sold with the 3SPD Auto 4WD transmission in the US and never came in a manual transmission. My EA81T works great w/ my 5SPD D/R and I think my 4SPD D/R could handle it for sure. Oh and if it helps, I'm scared of wiring too.

Well, you had better ship me your car and I'll tell you if it is fun or not (I assume that if it gets a bad report, you won't want it and I can keep it, right?)
-
GJ! I want your car bad now. It looks great, how do you like the improved rough rally road handling capabilities? I would really like to take a Leg w/ OB struts out and see what it's like! Congrat's!!

Sorry for not contributing, but those are some awesome action pic.s, dude!! I'm loving your 'bob'd tail, makes me want to do it.

How about a Montana Meet?

Hey guys, I think I will be in Missoula for NY's this year. But I'd be into one anyother time - so, maybe we could figure something later on in say 2006 in addition to this NY's shenanigans. There should be some great snow come Dec.31 -
Are there any mods or known swaps to soften the suspension of EA81's namely in the front? I would like to see my brat take repetitive bumps as smoothly and quickly as possible. It would be nice to have the car sit a little higher as well. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience w/ this? Are any EA82 struts softer?

observations on rwd vs fwd
MSSLGECKO replied to archemitis's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I think you're right on all accounts. I drive my Brat in RWD and will convert to 2WD/4WD for the snow soon. The car all around drives better and is more smooth in RWD as well as the higher fun factor. -
Anybody remember ORSA?
MSSLGECKO replied to TheSubaruJunkie's topic in Meet n' Greet. Your USMB Welcome Center
I like it. Perhaps a reformation of the Off Road Subarus of America is in order. What sort of objectives did the club set? I would be very proud to sport well designed ORSA stickers. Are there any current or previous designs that we could all see? -
Dayn - I would really like to see the Brat when I'm in Missoula for dec./jan. I also want to meet up w/ Nels. Maybe we should plan a small get together if you are down. Those flares look good bro! P.S. - Do you have any sources of Pug's in MT?

Can I get by w/ using the EJ wiring harness only as far as the firewall and mesh it w/ the EA dash wiring at that point? By the way, thanks for knowing and sharing all this info. It helps us all sort things out before we're chest deep in an engine bay.
-
Can someone brief me on the intricacies of integrating the EJ22 harness into the stock EA81 (or '2) dash guages?

My pipe-dream for low rpm turbo spooling:
MSSLGECKO replied to MSSLGECKO's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Nels - I do have the EA81T w/ H2O. I wasn't aware that my turbo is a wee bit smaller - thanks. I just thought it would be kinda cool to have an on-board air system that also could spool the turbo early. -
Yeah, I guess that gortex wouldn't be preferable for a bed cover. That makes sense to me. I guess I'll contact a sail/boat cover maker and see what they say. It's not a big area, so I imagine that it wouldn't be too seriously pricey. If anyone would want one of these, let me know, if I can get one, I can get 2

Need opinions for sube accesories
MSSLGECKO replied to [HTi]Johnson's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
If you could make some bumpers like the Ausies have, I bet you could sell those pretty well. I haven't seen US bumpers that top the AUS ones. Just a thought (not trying to harp on you American types) -
Yeah, I was thinking a sailmaker could do it. But the closest one I know is about 300 miles away. That's pretty sweet that they made them - are there any pic.s floating around out there? Your description of the design helps too. As for material and pricing - I don't know, I know that my buddy can get surplus gor-tex and it sounded like the price would be decent if he could find me an excess piece and it would be really expensive if he ordered it. Does anyone else think that gortex wouldn't hold up? (IIRC this company uses 3-ply gortex where competitors use 1-ply) Thanks for the input - this is why I post my random ideas on here
-
I got to thinking and decided that it would be mondo-cool to have a water-proof cover that attatched along the edges of the bed and have a plastic window incorperated to accomidate rear-view mirroring. My buddy may be able to hook up some excess gortex from his work for me, so it could formulate. Any ideas on 1 - where to have a piece of gortex modified w/ attachment points and a window inserted and 2 - what's the best way of attaching it to the bed (buttons, snaps, etc?), I was thinking that if I removed the bed trim, I could put mount-points using the holes found under the trim. It would look super cool coming up to the roof w/ a window in it.

I'd be down, y'all. Pending I pull it together and fix up the wagon - I'll come chill regardless. As for dates, Nov. 18 is a big weekend for college students here and I will not be driving anything at all. Early December would be good for me. We're getting snow - it's awesome! -
Are those both yours in Missoula? Man, you make me miss home if there are rigs like those rolling around there now. I want to see them when I'm in town next month.
