I'm in, but I need them for the EA81 wagon.

hmmmm. . . . strange problem. I had something sortof similar happen. Sometimes my car would do some sort of fuel cut (I think) When it was doing this, it would either shut off, or struggle to hold idle. When it was struggling w/ idle, it would die if I pushed the gas. I took it to my subaru mechanic who looked over it, put a new fuel filter on and said it was fine. It works fine, but every so often it'll happen and go away. Check your fuel filter (?) See if replacing it helps.

Finally OVERSIZE OFFROAD WHEELS
MSSLGECKO replied to Shadyirishmen's topic in Products for your Subaru
It would be cool to see a set mounted on one of your subarus. Action pictures really put it in perspective -
Rock crawling would be a little harder than w/ an NA engine (lower-end power) but when you're moving, a turbo is going to give you a lot of punch. Kind of depends on what you want to be doing w/ the car off road. I would say in most cases, except for very very low-speed obstacles, the turbo will make you pretty happy. A turbo will also make for pretty good highway travel.

Andrew, I have a multimeter and I've had the issue they're describing w/ the fusible links. If you want a hand or to borrow the meter, let me know. I have the materials to make a new fusible link if necessary. When it happened for me, I had no power to anything except my horn, hazzard lights, and interior light. Hope that helps. Good luck,

I know you guys are talking about EA82's, but I picked up this link somewhere on the board w/in the past few months: $51 2-Core for the EA81 http://www.radiatorworld.com/radiatorworldfinal/displayProducts.aspx?carno=19335 They might have something for the EA82. . .

You probably won't even need to save for these suckers. They're Walmart brand and cost something like $50/tire. As I recall, there was some discussion about these tires some months ago (December?) and I think someone concluded or came close to saying that these tires are made by Cooper(?). I might be off on the brand.

Broken the tranny cross member on both sides? I have. My D/R linkage moved down such that I couldn't put it in 2WD any longer because it bottoms out on the floor. I just got a chance to jack 'er up and look. . . . both sides of the tranny crossmember are broken. I'm just happy the tranny didn't fall off. Anyhow, I'm going to get a new crossmember.

Best 3" lift for the Brat?
MSSLGECKO replied to SuBrat84's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Offroad Forum - There is heavy discussion of this currently, I would advise that you read up on it. Also might want to clarify what you are going to be using this for - trail rig, daily driver, rock crawling, etc. I assume this is on a Brat(?) -
I'll let you know how I resolve this problem. It seems to be a progressive problem, so I would suggest not neglecting it like us procrastinators love to.

Alright, so I never actually fixed this and now I am stuck w/ everything but 2WD. I removed the plastic trim around the shifter and that fixed the problem. I was shifting because the lever was bottoming out on the trim. After a while the problem progressed and now I can't get the lever to go far enough down to get back into 2WD. The only two bolts that I see to mess w/ are the one that the lever pivots on and the connection between the metal off the lever and the shaft going to the trans. I can't seem to be able to adjust anything at all w/ either of these. I am at a loss as to what to do. The 'height adjusting screw' that Ed mentioned doesn't seem to exist as far as I can tell. What should I do? It seems like the shaft is simply too far back. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated! Thanks,

Awesome. When are you going to show me where this is?

A DOG - How would those look on a lifted EA81? Any progress toward a lift?

Alternator Whathaveyou's
MSSLGECKO replied to MSSLGECKO's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
well, after fighting w/ my car for a bit I got the J/Y alt. in. I had it tested and it was pumping out 14V w/out trouble. There is no change from the previous alternator that I can notice. I am still getting slightly under 10V even when it is brought up to speed. I also had a hell of a time getting the drive belt right and now that it isn't squeaking any more, my power steering is lagging at low revs. -

I'm about to start finding a J/Y alt. Are the subaru ones all the same? I have an EA81T, any one should work, right? -

I definately was not aware of the implications of the 'lifetime' warranty. Anyhow, what model can I find the proper GM Alt. off of? I'm thinking about doing the RavenTBK mod. -

OEM - you got it. Anyone have a suggestion or two about how to tell that my car is about to go? Will I rapidly lose voltage (more than I already have)? -

MSSLGECKO replied to MSSLGECKO's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks a lot guys. So, what do y'all think of an external voltage regulator? I suppose I will just pick up a J/Y alt. I don't want to get stranded. I feel like a moron when that happens and I have passengers with me. -
I'm trying to figure out what exactly happened, so I'll describe: I was driving on the highway last night and like normal, my lights were getting a little brighter when I brought the rev's up. Well, one of those times, the lights got very bright, and the voltmeter went high then it gave out. Volts dropped and continued to drop and the lights were dimmer, but fine for driving. All systems worked fine and the engine lights were on. I was pretty concerned about losing power completely and wrecking my car and killing us, so I pulled over thinking the car was about to die (I figured it was running off batt. power and no alternator charge) When I pulled over, I didn't shut off the car and saw the volts drop down to about 10 (I think it was) When I started moving the car again, the volts went up to about 12. I drove all 200 miles fine - car starts and everything. Is this a fuse or something? I thought I had blown up my alternator but that doesn't seem to be the case. I don't want to get stranded anywhere not able to start my car now. Any thoughs as to what is the culprit?

Well, I was trying to recall a website where I saw and I got to thinking . . . Everyone has their own online vendor they go to for their Subaru parts - So, why don't we all colaborate and post up the best places to get new (and used) parts? This could prove to be an excellent place to start from for finding parts. I found my fusible links here: http://www.allsubparts.com/ (If this is a dumb idea, I apologize in advance)

a link to your gallery would be nice: http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/photos/showgallery.php?cat=646 Nice looking STD.

Andrew - that'll be sweet when you get your rig lifted! If you need an extra set of hands for the lift, let me know. Definately let me know when you are ready for some off-road fun. Maybe we can start a 2-man club - awesome.

Book Value of: EA82T 5SPD FullTime 4WD Wagon
MSSLGECKO replied to MSSLGECKO's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Is the FT 5SPD geared the same as my D/R 5Spd ('87)? And, I could probably expect an LSD in this, right? How does this drive train do w/ 14" rims and corresponding tires (don't know what size - street tires) as far as road handling is concerned? -

Haha, that's what I was thinking, but talking someone down 2K is a bit much. I'll go check her out. I'm sortof considering purchasing this as a road car so I don't have to drive around on 27's every day. Thanks for the input. EDIT: Does anyone have specific suggestions of what mechanical parts too look especially close at? Also, are there any variations by year on this model?
