A 27x8.50x14 tire is a pretty good size for a subaru, IMO. My 4/3 lifted t-wagon is pretty able off road with the Cooper Discoverer LT's of that size and has a good amt. of power to turn them (especially w/ Lo range). Do you have any idea how much cutting you'll need to do? (It won't be too much, I imagine.) With the 3" lift, 27's are an excellent fit in the rear w/out trimming. ^ My 02¢ on the matter.

Name for a lifted/hot-rodded Brat?
MSSLGECKO replied to FlyB0y's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
There is a company out of Missoula known internationally for Jeep tuning (if I was to own a Jeep, it would be one of theirs) called American Expedition Vehicles ( aev-conversions.com ). Anyhow, my point is that they have a model called the Brute - someone beat you to the draw on that one in Missoula dude. -
The perfect centre diff (in theory)

The WRX STi has a control for the front to rear power ratio if that is what you're thinking of . . . -
Has a rear wheel drive Sube been run in any sort of autox course? How would a D/R in 4Lo do? My car has a 4Spd, but I'm curious about either 5- or 4-Spd.

'Shaved' Brat [or any EA model]
MSSLGECKO replied to MSSLGECKO's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'll keep the STD doors in mind, but my car is already missing trim on driver's door, so I think I'll just patch the holes and paint. Is it street legal to drive w/out a front (or rear) bumper? Just pondering. . . XT6 door handles? Hmmm. I suppose that it would be more effort than I'm looking to expend on this, but it's a thought. It would certainly look cool! Also, does anyone have any ideas how to reduce weight in a Brat? I don't want to strip the interior or go too drastic, but if you have any thoughts, toss them out! -

As far as door handles and key holes, I am planning on leaving them as is. (Thanks for the link.) I think that simply removing the side trim looks pretty good. (I don't intend on removing the side-step trim.) I 'shopped a McBrat subaru just for fun (hope it's okay with you). I removed the side trim and the topper that was on the '86 Brat. Tangent: What about the silver trim around the windshield and windows? It might look bad with a recession where the trim goes; would it look okay painted body color? SuBrat84 - Don't remove bed trim? As not to damage the body when being carless with the bed or is there something else that you had in mind? -
Has anyone removed trim on their car? I know that in the sports car realm that a lot of people like to do this. I think it could look pretty good. What all would you all think could be trimmed? - Remove bed trim (and trim tabs) - Badging - Side trim (holes filled) - ? I would like to figure out what all could be removed and possibly look good. This would be on a RWD Brat. Is this a good/bad idea? What could be shaved? So, have at it:

Yeah, it's the one from the paper.

I have everything except the actual screws and bolts that are required for the install. I just trying to figure out what screws/bolts (sizes) I need to finish the job.
-
So, I just picked up an '84 Brat w/ a set of jump seats ready to go. I need to install these things now. Does anyone know offhand what screws and bolts will be required for the install? Thanks
-
Alright, good point - I won't make money on it. But it's still 'Money in the Bag.' I got a Brat and it will be cool.

So I just picked up a 1984 Brat w/ 177,800 on it and a Hi/Lo 4SPD in excellent mechanical condition. I am thinking that this will be a temporary arrangement. I want to keep it for a while but would like to slowly improve it at low cost. Here's what I'm thinking: new radiator EA82 adjustable shocks Honda springs (2" higher ride?) bull bar and roll bar if I can find them Repaint done by me w/ no experience - just so it looks decent fix up chrome trim and missing badging 14" Pugeot steels w/ ~ 26" tires I am looking for the Brat to be little bigger and slightly more aggressive for off-roading and rallying. I imagine that I'll want a webber and open exhaust at some point. Anyhow, Let me know what you all think. It seems like it would be a fun project. I would like to make $$ buy building this sucker up and selling it sometime this winter (possibly). Anything you guys would add to my list (or remove)? What are the chances that I could make this profitable?

Just before I gave up and went to go get a drill (that was not available at the time), I broke it loose w/ a good old vice grip. Thanks for the input and replies, I'll definately remember for next time I have to deal w/ this sort of thing. The bolt was difficult to access, and would have been probably the worst way to learn to use an easy-out.

Hi all, I am going to attempt to remove a bolt w/ a rounded head on it this afternoon. I have a set of easy out bits and thought that I would make sure that I am doing it right before I dive in. Do I need to drill some sort of pilot hole in the bolt, or do I just put the bit in the drill, set to reverse and push into the bolt while drilling? Thanks,

Your link url has a slash (/) where it should have a dot (.) Looks like a bold endeavor!

I am missing 1 of the 3" cylinder spacers that goes between the tranny xmember and the body. Should I have someone make me one? What would a shop usually charge for work like this? Or should I try to find someone on the board w/ the spacer that they don't need? I kind of doubt that someone has an individual spacer they would want separate from a kit. (PM me if you have one laying around)

The pick didn't show in the original post. Now it works, suddenly. Might be just a sticker someone slapped on there, but because of that 'Justy' sticker w/ the same font & color, it's hard to say. . .

The socket size for the nut. I think it is a 17mm (I tried a 19mm); thanks. I just don't feel like buying the wrong one today, I do things like that enough as it is.

I am removing my trans. crossmember. What is the nut size for the bolt holding the Leading Rod to the xmember? (EA81) Thanks,

5SPD DR Swap Crossmember
MSSLGECKO replied to MSSLGECKO's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Does that mean that you have it? Awesome. How about tires and wheels? -
My EA81 has a 5SPD DR in it (3SPD Auto was original). I broke my transm. crossmember and need to replace it. Which crossmember do you use for the swap? EA81 4SPD, EA82 5SPD, etc.? Thanks, (p.s. I did a search and didn't find this specific info)
-
Old Subarus? Hmmm. What would the price on a RX (3DR) be like - or any 80's Subaru for that matter? And, yes, wheels would sell like hot cakes, IMO.

Finally out of the garage. New pic
MSSLGECKO replied to calebz's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I agree, that looks really nice. It makes me want a FT4WD Wagon even more. Might be worth tossing up before & after pics of your engine bay as well. -
Just out of curiousity, what are the 'risks' involved. . . .why would it end in disaster [towing an AWD car]?
