Went great. I made it 200 miles down the road on fresh tires and an unexpected fender trim job. I got the tires on this morning. I love them. I haven't gone offroading or anything yet, but they look right. The tires filled up the fenders just how I wanted them to. The rear has no rubbage that I have seen (haven't flexed it out much) and the front wheels made contact front and rear. I was going to do some pounding and bending as a temporary measure until I could cut how I wanted. However, lacking in time to spend hammering at my car (I was jury-rigging my heater fan), I took the car over to a local body shop. I took the car over at 11AM to talk to the shop about the 'adjustments'. The guy gave me a hard time - asked Why I would do something like that(lift a Sube), said That's for Jeeps. It was all taken lightly. Not everyone see these things [ever]. Anyhow, I took the car over at 1PM and talked with Will (the dude who was actually doing the work on my car) and showed him where it was contacting the front and told him I wanted the curve of the wheel well to just continue a little more forward instead of the slight curl around it does. The rear of the wheel touched on the mud flap mount and the area behind it. The mounting surface was removed and a tiny bit of fender was removed. I am going to find a digi-cam somewhere and post some pics. It looks stock to anyone who doesn't know any better. Anyhow, I'm out -

When you make the switch, how do you get rid of all the original oil?

The ideal of the older generation
MSSLGECKO replied to thedoctor's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
This all depends: What is your application? Do you want good highway mileage? Off-Road-ability? What are you best with? (Fuel Injected vs. Carberated) There are a million questions. -
I'm getting the tires mounted tomorrow morning. Then I'm driving to Bozeman (200 Miles) then I will use a dremel to 'adjust' as necesary. I would like to avoid cutting off the lower section infront of the front wheels because w/ my bumper I feel that it may look a little more choppy than I want. And I really don't want to trim the rear. I want to retain my mud flaps all around. I'll see how it turns out.

I got it. It was the two screws for the door then the wires for the light. Thanks.

What is the top speed that you are supposed to go (maximum) in a 5 Spd D/R in Hi and Lo?
-
Taking off the door allowed you to pull the glove box out? I'm pretty sure that I tried that a while ago. I'll see
-
Hi, I am in the middle of digging for my heater blower motor. I'm trying to get some ducting out, but the glove box needs to go first. I can't find any bolts that are holding it in place. The car is an 83 Turbo Wagon. Thanks,

I'm fairly confident that that is not a dealer option you have there. Sounds like something is amis. I have been told that Subarus know no fear, so that is definately not a case of your car being intimidated by a planter.

As I recall the PB that I had long ago was shift on the fly. You're all good.

Repost: EA82T, INJECTION vs. EA81, CARB.
MSSLGECKO replied to BLACKSTONE's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm not going to say that Brian is wrong, but I will say that my EA81T Wagon w/ 5 SPD D/R does quite nicely. The turbo kicks in at about 2100 and that's usually low enough to climb up and out of things. People seem to find that Subarus are the type of offroader that does best when moving fast toward a steep incline/obstacle. Just my .02¢ -
I'm at work today and I'm gazing at my Subaru (parallel parked infront of store) through the front windows of the store and I started thinking. What got me thinking was the only snow accumulation that remains on the car from sitting under piles of snow then driving around is the area above the windshield in front of the roof rack. And all I can think is: SNOW FAIRING! I just packed the first layer of snow on there and poured a little water to help it freeze/stick. I'll make it substantially better tomorrow (or tonight if it freezes quick enough) It's currently 9 Deg. F and dropping. It will be awesome for my highway cruise back to school this week. It's constantly below freezing now so I figure this one is worth the effort. If it looks halfway decent after I shape it and all, I think I'll print some stencils for the SUBARU logo and either carve it in or paint it on or both - haven't decided.
-
That and it says SUBARU TURBO INTERCOOLER on it and I would feel like the man if I had that in my engine bay.

Well, I think I am going to just trim so that it looks like the wheel well just goes a little more forward than stock. (Trim the bottom corner at the front of the wheel well.) But I don't have anything (like a dremel) to cut it with. So, I'm just wondering what I'm going to do. Did u get rubbage when you turned just a little bit? How far over did u have to turn to get contact?

Subarus Do The Darndest Things!
MSSLGECKO replied to MSSLGECKO's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Insulate - Any good ideas/ways of doing this? Are you thinking just bundling it w/ some sort of insulative material? Or are you talking an entire contained system w/ a heat supply and a satelite uplink w/ cool neon lights. EDIT: The difference between 20 and 7 is that w/ 20 you're talking short sleeved shirt possibility for short periods of time; whereas with 7 it's more like long sleeved breaching on sweater territory. -

Dr. RX - The outside temp. was 7 Deg. F when it wouldn't start and about 20 Deg. F when it did. The engine seemed to be turning over perfectly fine (normal speed) but wouldn't catch and run. -
Just want some people who have mounted a tire this exact size on their 3/4 EA81 [wagon, hatch, or brat] to describe and/or show photos of their fender trim jobs. I am putting on the Cooper Discoverer LT (size in title)

So, maybe some HEET would be a help? Can anyone give me a guage on how much I should put in since there is already some of this 'anti-gasfreeze'? Its been fine all day long, but it has been warmer too. (still below freezing) -
Remember that television show from way back when (Kids Do The Darndest Things)? My Subaru watched those darned kids and took notes. The Wonder-Beast decided not to catch and run when i turned 'er over yesterday after it had been sitting for about 15 minutes in single digit (F) temps. Then it wouldn't fire later either. Went to meet the tow truck this morning and just to confirm that it wasn't running I tried to start it. And wouldn't ya know, there she goes. Here's my "HELP" thread from yesterday: http://ultimatesubaru.org/forum/showthread.php?t=28067 If anyone has a good idea as to what it was that was wrong and most importantly how to fix it in a jiffy next time, let me know! I would say frozen gas, but our pump gas has the same thing as HEET in it already and it had just been running like a top (I hadn't driven it enough to get it warmed up)
-
I think a good number of people have done this and it's just a matter of mounting the correct runners on the seats. I think you have to fab a little to get them in the correct possition. I would say search around the forum for this. It has been done and discussed.

Won't Start - Cold Weather? (EA81T)
MSSLGECKO replied to MSSLGECKO's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
So, the Coolant Sensor would prevent the engine from getting gas even though I'm giving it throttle? *EDIT: How do I test the CS ? I've been told that the same stuff as the HEET is already in all the pump gas around town here. The guy at the auto parts store told me to take a space heater and blow air from it toward the gas lines. Wish I had a heated garage or even a garage. -
Won't Start - Cold Weather? (EA81T)
MSSLGECKO replied to MSSLGECKO's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Is HEET like the ether products that you spray into the intake? I'm going to get some and see if that does anything. I'm not sure how to check spark on my car. (I only know that if your lawnmower shocks you then its getting spark) -
I just put insurance back on my car, drove my father to his office and printed off the temp. card so I could drive the car. I hop back in the car to go home and it won't start. It will crank over but won't catch and start. I throtled it but that didn't do squat. The outside temp. is 7 Degrees. Any clue as to what is wrong? It's never done this before. It started up just fine when I left the house. I didn't let the car sit before I drove it and it only went about a half mile if that so it was not warmed up when I turned it off again. This is an urgent problem for me, and I feel like an idiot because my dad was with me. Thanks guys!

Thanks, that helps. Skip - that was on an EA81T I assume?

How much oil does the EA81T hold? I'm about to do an oil change, thought I'd see. If no one knows, just tell me the EA81 and the EA82T volumes. I just want an estimate. Thanks,
