When I got tires, I got tires that were labled 27x8.50xR14. The tire shops here all where familiar with this size as it is some sort of 'common' size for tires. . . Mine are Cooper Discoverers. Also, I think this is a perfect size for oversized tires on the old 'ru's.

That's a cool fab job. Can you tell how rigid the rear is? It looks like it is somewhat reinforced. Do you have any plans to modify this truck?

I'm working on bleeding my brake system and am beginning to think I need to flush the whole hydraulic brake system. Anyhow, I am having trouble with the first master cylinder bleeder valve. I tried to drain it (as directed by 'How To Keep Your Subaru Alive') and have run a lot of fluid through it and am still dealing with a ton of bubbles that seem to be never ending. What should I do now? Edit: I think my master cylinder is toast. Subaru quoted me at $158 for a new one ordered. Is there a cheaper route for me to take?

Brake Bleeder Kit (pneumatic)
MSSLGECKO replied to MSSLGECKO's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I have a question: Do I truly need to adjust my brakes (rear drums) before I bleed the system? More importantly, can I adjust my brakes without jacking up the car, or would this be a bad idea because then I won't be able to turn the wheel to see if it is locked by the brake? -
That's totally awesome! Thanks for posting pics so quick even though I haven't been around . . . You did a nice job documenting it for all of us! I'm definately gonna have to try it on my 5SPD sometime - can anyone here say if it is the same/similar setup on the 5SPD? As for 2Lo kick@$$ness, my Brat loved in in all 8 gears using 2Lo & 2Hi (RWD). I found that it had no adverse effects after putting ~1000 miles on it and using 2Lo as much as possible for burn outs, fast accel.s, auto-x, and general mayhem. Shifting between the Hi/Lo is just like any other shifter/gear.

Pics: First decent offroading for my EJ Hatch!!
MSSLGECKO replied to 88HatchMonster's topic in Off Road
This car is sweet! Congratulations, nice work. I think the diamond plate under the bumper looks very nice. I definately look forward to seeing video clips of iit in action! -
Wow. That is a really nice job! It's noteworthy that I like this (a lot) despite the fact that I severely dislike truckbed spoilers and dodges. But this is so well done that I can't dislike it! Although, I must say that it would really tie it together if it had a Hemi 6.1L Or even better a 22b drivetrain (the bodywork kinda reminds me of the 22b's w/ the widebody fenders but not doors.)

I thought that 14" steels were very common for 5-lug Subarus (?)

I don't have the answer, but I think that you meant to type '81' not '85' in your first sentence: "I bought an [81] hatch . . "

Not to push you if you would rather wait until pics are posted' date=' but did you create a setup that can be shifted on the fly (quickly) or is it a 'delicate system' that would be best operated at a stop or low speeds? -[cruiosity'] Also, I dig the EJ18 and 4SPD D/R concept. . . Can't wait to see pictures and hear results of this project

That's pretty solid romping around especially in RWD only, I'm stoked to see the full 4WD setup [next weekend =]! I love the descent you do; is there footage of Jibs' descent (?) - or does he have to put it together himself Anyways, good subaru mobbin' and it is put together very nicely; I rated it accordingly.

Great video! I'm glad to see that you make good use of your approach angle clearance. Youtube is the place to be for sharing videos. What kind of camera do you use?

EA81T PowerSteering Pulley
MSSLGECKO replied to MSSLGECKO's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
Thanks, that helps a bunch! I suppose I'll just take my pulley off and compare to a new one before buying. Is there a good place to buy new units, or should I just bank on J/Y ones? -
I need to replace my power steering pully. My question is, is this the same as all non-turbo EA81 pulleys? Is it possible to use an EA82 pulley? Thanks

New Toy... (56k < ej20)
MSSLGECKO replied to Subarutex's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That car got my stoke waay up. That really has to be one killer RX. What transmission is in there? (I'm guessing the EJ 5SPD) Maybe it needs a beefed up D/R FT4WD box, eh? -
Does anyone here use one of these kits? I never hear people mention these and I haven't tried one, but I am strongly considering buying one. I'm also looking for brand/model/vendor recommendations from those who use the bleeder kits. Thanks
-
Cool, Thanks!! Can you tell me if it was easy/intuitive to install on the car? I was looking at a Bronco II that my friend has and IIRC, it did not look like it would bolt up. But yours is not off a Bronco II, right?

high odometer = high mpg!?!?
MSSLGECKO replied to heartless's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
That's normal; at about 220K miles, your vintage Subaru will finally complete its break-in period and should be well prepared for the upcoming 500K more miles. -
Looks like a good post of vid's! I only have had time to check out the first vid, and I had a question: Is that rear swing arm w/ full size spare a factory part for a car I could find in the J/Y or elsewhere? What model is it from?

Fuel savings with 4WD fuse removed??
MSSLGECKO replied to Frank B's topic in Old Gen.: 80's GL/DL/XT/Loyales...
I'm pretty sure that on gen.1 legacys it doesn't harm the transmission. -
I don't think an IC will do you any good when ambient temp.s are ~115F. On a turbo, the IC would work to bring the compressed air back down closer to ~115F. So, if there is no turbo and no compression ( = hotter than ambient air ), the IC would not reduce the temp. at all unless you put ice on the IC. Prehaps using an AC core somehow to provide cooling to intake air with some kind of InterCooler, you could reduce the intake temp.s a good bit. But this is all a little off-topic from fake hood scoops (now we're talking about fake intercoolers! ) I do have a question on-topic, however. I was thinking about the Gen. 1 Legacy Turbo models which were the first to come with a hood scoop. These models came with Air-Water IC's and had no use for a hood scoop. What's with that anyways, Subaru just randomly decided to start faking car buyers out?
