  1. Yeah, details would help. If its idling that high cold, it poses a hazard to the engine. If your Subaru is cxarbureted these might be a solution: Try shooting some carb cleaner into and round the carb. Once you've cleaned up the carb a bit and it still idles that high, try tapping the throttle a few times. The throttle or the choke may just be a bit sticky. If this doesn't work, check your idler screw, it may be set too high. If your rig is efi, I have no clue. Hope it helps, Twitch
  2. I bought some silicone wiper blades. I forget the brand name (tossed the package ) but they were in a yellow and black package at wally world. They work fairly well when I get washer fluid on the windows. (washer pump doesn't work anymore :-\) But they have never froze down on me. I had them coated in ice and snow and they still worked. I'ved use them as ice scrapers when there was frost on the windshield. They have a lifetime warrantee on them so if they ever die I get new ones for free! The only thing I've noticed is that they don't work well on a dirty windshield. I highly reccomend cleaning your windshield with some sort of wash, ex. rain-x, turtle wax, etc, before you use them. 3. Well Mr. Monstaru, it could have been a lot worse. It could have flipped the van into oncoming traffic, killed a few people and exploded in a fireball. And the moose hit the van, not visa versa Greenley. The moose was probably doing 35-40 when it hit the van and pushed it into the oncoming lane of traffic. Thankfully there were no cars in the way when she got pushed over there. Just a little splainnin. Twitch :-\
  4. It seems like we all have had our encounters with meese. My mom was hit by one in our 79' GMC Passenger van, Ya know, the old beasts that could hold like 15 people. It caved in the sliding door and dented the passenger window frame. Thankfully she had the window down at the time so it didn't shatter. It knocked the 4000lb van into the next lane. The skid marks were probably 10 feet long in total. And the cool thing is the only thing that was hurt was the moose. Oh and the door still works. Twitch
  5. Is your engine running hot? My brat with a stock, I believe, single barrel hitachi, and it fluctuates when it's running hot. So you may be being afflicted by the same thing, which I have no idea what is causing it. I believe it may be the excessive heating of the air going into the engine and the expansion of the air hitting the hot water crossover causes a fluctuation in the amount of air entering the engine. If that's what's happening. If not, I have no clue. It may be a faulty or dirty jet not pushing enough fuel into the carb, causing a surge in power when it does push enough fuel but a drop when it doesn't. At such a demanding speed, but low rpm's it may not operate with enough vacuum to get the fuel through the faulty or dirty jet. Just my two bucks from my limited piggybank of knowledge. 7. Aww c'mon, where's your sense of adventure?

Don't you want to carry a 300+ pound tranny through the snow?

The snow's only up to your knees...

Anywho, I'll volunteer to dig it out if he doesn't want it.

I'll even dig a trench through the snow big enough for a hand truck

or a dolly to get in there, so its easier to get out.

I need a tranny and a 5sp replacement for the stock 4sp is what

    I'm looking for.

Unless you know someone with an STi tranny sittin' around...

  8. I'd like the chain drive if I was offroading, but I want to rallycross, not really rock crawling stuff. I am, however, greatly tempted by the cutting out of the wheel well and custom building my own. Mine are basically shot, so I might do that, once I get a rig to drive other than my brat. Have the whole bottom resheeted in 1/8th in steel, ok maybe 1/16 to save money. Grind the rust out of my fenders and open them up big enough to fit some 17" wheels with low pro rally tires, yeah. Sorry, drifted off. (pun not intended) Twitch
  9. Really!?!

    Is a d/r or a s/r?

If its a d/r then how much do you want for it?

  10. Ok, well its reading well over now. I'm going to drain out some of the tranny fluid until it hits the proper level. And I tried to unplug the tranny control harness, it didn't work. It just made it not move out of gear. :frustrated: Any other Ideas? Thanks again to all ya'll for the help. Oh and bump. Twitch
  11. Hey! How you been doing?

I know what we could do to hang out, I need to get a tranny for my

brat. I lost first gear, > ( grrrrr...

But it'll have to wait until I can get my settlement from the insurance.

  12. What, you don't enjoy the feel of your urabuS? After two loooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong months of driving my parents rigs, I was soooooooooooooo appreciative to have my brat underneath me again. I hope you feel the same way. Oh and what obsession? Just because the universe revolves around Subaru doesn't mean I'm obsessed. It just means that those in my life are jealous of my car. And the fact I'm extremely hostile towards other wannabe subes, doesn't mean I'm crazy, the fact that I see thing that aren't there makes me crazy. Twitch. :-p PS: MWAHAHAHAHAAAAA... 13. Look for a wagon or hatch in that price range. You'll get something decent. Brat's are the high end stuff. For a brat that's in need of some mechanical repair and few rust spots, you're lucky to find one under 2k. And you my friend, are lucky. If you want a collectors rig, the brat is one to purchase. Run around rig, get a wagon, sedan or hatch. Just as much fun, but cheaper on the insurance and a bit more sensible. A hatch is the most like the brat in size and driving experience. Twitch
  14. Hmmm, sounds like my legacy. Subscribing to this thread to see what the outcome is. And the fluid disappearing act, I know what you're talking about there. Mine did the same. Right before it decided to die as well. If I figure anything out, I'll post it up for you to think about. Twitch
  15. Kick. Sorry, I expect more out of my threads, they don't get away with just a bump. And noooo Its not post abuse. :-p Anywho, We need more peoples! The "North Westerns"!!! Come join if you're in the PNW! Twitch (Psst. I'm crazy!!!)
  16. Thanks for all the help. I bought that pump, and it works beautifully! Car runs, and its for sale Sorry, I have no shame. Twitch
  17. When I did my 2.2 the timing belt was cake. I didn't have to remove the tensioner pulley to get it in or out. I did for ease of access, but it wasn't neccesary. Just my 2 bucks. Twitch
  18. The 2.2 has a flat bottom and +1 to Shawn. They're interchangeable as far as I know. Twitch
  19. Yep, I've got one on my brat (that's for sale ) Sorry, shameless plug. Twitch
  20. Yes, its the stock hitachi. And no, nobody put a fuel pump somewhere else, I just connected the hose back together because I didn't know there was supposed to be a fuel pump in that particular location. My dad applied compressed air to the tank and that made it run, so that means no leaks in the system, and no fuel sprayed out underneath, so the gaskets must be good. Thanks for the help, I'm going to pick up the one in the pictures today, unless you guys think that would be detrimental. Twitch
  21. I've been looking for a fuel pump for my 79' Brat. Do any of you have any suggestion for brands or models? I've found this one at CSK, now (or soon to be) Oreilly's http://shop.oreillyauto.com/ProductDetail.aspx?MfrCode=CTR&MfrPartNumber=P60504&PartType=52&PTSet=A Heres what it looks like for those who don't want to hit the link It's about $56 bucks and I can have it shipped to the nearest store for free. Would you guys say a Subaru OEM would be better? And also, is this where the original was located? Thanks for the help! Twitch
