  1. I don't know, but I never fired it up without it being completely assembled. I don't think there are any major systems attached to the accessory belts... Twitch
  2. It sounds like you need a BFH. Or a ten foot pipe to put on the end of your wrench. I personally like PB Blaster. It eats through rust pretty fast. The heat idea is good, just make sure the area is clean before applying the torch. Twitch
  3. OK. First off: Year, Model, Mileage, Engine And second of all, compress the tensioner. Third, remove the tensioner pulley and the tensioner. Fourth, route the belt around the lower pulleys. Now, it appears that your timing belt has lines on it. Line up the lines with proper marks on the cams (the end pulleys) and the crankshaft (the center pulley) while their at tdc (top dead center.) They should line up just fine. All the slack in the belt should be between the driver's side cam and the crankshaft. Hold everything in place and reattach the tesioner pulley. Then just reattach the tesioner, pull the pin, and TAH DAH!!! Your timing should be set. Twitch
  4. I want that! That looks like it would be almost as much fun to drive as my brat! And I bet that thing could go really fast with an EA71 or EA81 in it, ehh wth, put an EJ22 in it. Twitch
  5. Man, that sucks... Could have lost the clutch cable retaining nut :-\ I'm kinda lost on this one. Ummm, might have had a tine/tooth on the pressure plate snap, and given the history of the hatch, I wouldn't doubt it could happen. Twitch PS: I haven't forgotten about the 5 speed, I've been replacing/upgrading an alt on the brat. And fighting it all the way.
  6. I personally enjoy driving my brat as a dd, but it does get tiresome after a while. And she is ALWAYS overpriced. Especially on Subaru's of any year. I say keep the loyale and the EA82 and wait to find a piecer like I did. Oh, and a 4 speed is a nightmare on the freeway. Especially with only 73 hp. I have scared every person that has ever ridden with me on the freeway. :-p (or maybe that was on dirt roads... ) Twitch
  7. This is fuel injected? Wow. That sounds just like flooding the cylinders and them catching up. Typical carb problem (for those of us with a lead foot ) Maybe your TPS is acting up. It sounds like it is sticking... Hope it helps. Twitch
  8. OK. What do you know of YHWH?

Just curious, been a while since somebody I didn't know use that.

  9. I know how you feel! But fortunately I have a fellow sube nut at our local napa He's knows what's what. And I have a guy at shucks. I bet most of you are jealous Twitch
  10. Check your vacuum lines. Also make sure your air cleaner bolts have an O-ring under them, it is vital that you have the airbox sealed, other than the intake, of course. The bolts on the side of the air cleaner also must be in so as not to allow any extra air in as well. Twitch
  11. I would make sure that you're getting good contact between the wire and the sending unit. And I would check the wire for any breaks in the insulation. It could be shorting before it gets to the guage. Twitch
  12. It might be that your ductwork is loose and allowing air to escape. Check under the passenger side dashboard. If its the same as my brat, there will be a black tube that air blows through. It should run from the outer panel to the center of the dash. If that's not the problem then, as everyone else said, try cleaning your heater core and your radiator. Twitch
  13. HOLY CRAP!!! This is an old thread! And an extremely useful one at that! I'll be doing this swap asap, as I believe my alt is on the downhill :-\ All I run is headlights, fan, multimedia gps, and 200w stereo. And my voltage slowly sinks down, till I kill the fan and gps. Then it takes about 10-15 minutes to get back up to 12-13 volts. :-\ So, maybe I'll be able to run my fogs, and my overheads, without killing my battery. Twitch
  14. Crap, well now I feel like a moron I guess I misread. Well, my bad, feel free to delete mods and admins! Unless, of course this helps, someone to find rims for something like The subaru mini truck! Mwahahahaha!!! Its still a subaru! Sorry, slightly maniacal today... Twitch(ing)
  15. I thought that the old gen lug pattern was 4x100, at least that's what I have read... If they aren't, I apologize for taking up unneccesary space. Twitch
  16. I just found this searching around for atv lug patterns that would fit to my brat and, well TAH DAH!!!! I founds sumthin'! Here's the link! They're supposed to adapt 4x100 to 4x110 or 4x115. I don't know how well they'll work for wheeling, but they're cool none-the-less! Twitch
  17. Hey! Sweet jig! Did you learn that in an Irish pub? Sorry, lame joke. So you can take just about any 6 lug to that thing? Cool. I might request your services for some wheels in the future... Twitch(ing with joy!)
  18. Good lord, an XT6GL10LiftedSedan? You're askin' for trouble boy. Nice grab, and can't beat the price. Oh, and may I say I like that pickup Early 80's I wanna say standard cab fleetside GMC? Sorry, I like old chevy pickups. :-p And I would like that spoiler, if its up for grabs that is. It would look mighty spiffy on one of my brats Twitch
  19. It looks like that was the stock position, considering the bracket sitting there. I think that under the hood would be easier for wiring if the wiring is present in that location. If its not, then I would just stick with the current location. And if you want the pump I got, O'reily's might have it (They bought CSK automotive.) It was like 50 or so dollars, I might have posted the price in my original post. Best of luck to ya! Twitch
  20. Nice brat man! (sorry, pun not intended) Why in the world would you want to drive it to death? Or in your words, "drive the dickens out of it"? If it looked like my brat, then yeah, drive it till it drops, but yours is so nice! I just wish I had the time and skill to do what you have done to mine. :-\ But hey thanks for showing us your beautiful 87' Brat! Twitch (de la Brat!)
  21. Sorry, I had to move it, the owners of the house were going to have it towed. Twitch PS: Just kidding! :-p Don't kill me! I surrender! Eeek! It was... It was... It w... *gasp* :-p:grin:
  22. Monthly? I only need to change mine every 2-3 months. Plus I run high grade oil, and almost always keep my brat at 2k or higher. Sure it may be a bit brutish, but considering the number of times people have tried to run me over this winter I like to have a little power to get the hell outta their way when their not paying any attention. I've had too many close calls and few too many accidents. And the majority of them weren't my fault. Sorry rant over. Twitch
  23. Aww, c'mon nipper! Don't you have any sense of fun? First time somebody drives your car and you hear "WTH?!?" when they hit the street. Oh god that was funny seeing that, whoo boy, sorry. But yeah, nipper's right, you probably need a new speedo cable.
  24. Learn what speed your going at what rpm in which gear. Like 45 is 2000 rpm in 4th. That's what I do in my '85 brat. My speedo rarely works. Hasn't since I bought the car. That's my fix. Just learn your approximate gear ratio's. Twitch PS: I have a 4sp d/r
